So a hostel not a hotel

I was really disappointed with this hotel, personally i think refering to it as a hotel is a bit of a joke since it was more like a hostel! The rooms are small and pokey, the air conditioning was stuck on heating! Was very glad we were there in february not in the middle of the summer!! Our double bed was actually 2 small uncomfortable single beds! Overall romantic destination i think not!!

Historical Traveller Reviews of Kennedy Hotel

Perfectly acceptable 2-3 star hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a perfectly acceptable 2-3 star hotel which in my opinion offers reasonable value for money. The rooms were small but clean and not too noisy given the location. The location (and some of the local nocturnal population) might be a little daunting to less seasoned travellers but in the grand scheme of things, it felt reasonably safe even when retuning to the hotel in the wee small hours after a few drinks. Visitors to Rome wanting to cover the main sites by foot could do a lot worse than stay here. After all, you’re not in Rome to sit in your hotel room all day are you?

Nice and Convenient Hotel

from Nomossgrows
I stayed at the Hotel Kennedy October 10-12, 2004. It was very conveniently located one short block from the Termini. Although there is a lot of graffiti around the hotel area, ALL of Rome has lots of graffiti!

The hotel room was small (probably standard size for Rome), but very clean and comfortable. There were only scuff marks on the wall, but I failed to see even one "dust bunny". There is an air conditioner in the room but don't try to turn it on there -- it won't work. I called the front desk to report the "problem" and was told to come to the desk for the remote control. After that, the room was very comfortable. I slept well because the street noise was adequately blocked off by triple pane windows.

A full breakfast was served, including several varieties of cereal, cornettos (croissants), juice, yogurt, and delicious capuccino!

As a single female traveler, I was treated very well and felt safe at this hotel.

Hotel Kennedy well located, great service, and affordable

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Hotel Kennedy was well located, it offered a good sized breakfast and the staff was very helpful with booking excursions and orienting us to the city sites. Air conditioning was wonderful during the hot June - July months.

Instead of paying 53 Euro for the hotel's airport shuttle service, I would strongly recommend taking the train to/from the airport as the main train station (Statione Termini) is in view of the hotel (only about 40 yards away).

We went as honeymooners and we'd be happy to stay there again in the future... just minus the cost of another wedding of course.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having just stayed in the Kennedy for 2 nights on my trip I found the place absolutely fine for the price. The room was clean, everything worked and the staff were very helpful in all areas. The foods not gourmet but we didn't pay gourmet prices now did we! Yeah, the area it is located in isn't the best but again you get what you pay for. I read the reviews about the graffiti, again very true but its everywhere not just in the hotel vacinity so don't be surprised. To summarize, some people want the Hilton at Hostel prices, not gonna happen, get real.

Just OK

from A TripAdvisor Member
This Hotel is very close to the train station. I thought the rooms were very typical size for european hotels. It seemed to be run by a family but maybe not....had that kind of feel. Nothing exceptional here at all just the basics which means that it was very clean, very quiet, staff very friendly - fine for the price. I have no complaints except for the neighborhood, at night it was a little scary. Its location is OK but there are hotels closer to the action but then you will probably pay more for that.
I am a woman and I was traveling alone and didn't have any problems but I was def. on guard when I was walking back at night alone.
Don't expect too much and you will not be dissapointed.

Kennedy Would Be Ashamed

from tokeefe5
Having read reviews on this website i decided to stay at this hotel whilst i visited Rome. On arrival the hotel gave a good first impression, as we arrived late in the evening the porter was nice and polite and told me of things to do and see, he also gave me and my friends maps of rome, which we found tremendously useful throughout the week. but that is where the good news ends!!! having awoke on my first morning in rome the sun was shining, i couldnt have asked for a nicer day, but the breakfast was how shall i put it, lacking in variety, but what do you expect from a free buffet breakfast that prides itself on '11 different jams'. We were told that the hotel reception was open 24 hours, and being students we found this news some what useful and to our advantage. On our days out we bumped into a tourist organisation called 'best of rome' they are fantastic!! they offer guided tours for families but for students and people looking for a good time they organise pub crawls every night which go on until 4am. the 1st time we went on this pub crawl one of my friends got blind drunk and we had to carry him back to the hotel at about 1am, once back at the hotel they were not pleased with us for the lateness of our return and for the state of my friend, who for the record was not 'ill' in the hotel. having told us the hotel had and i quote, "no curfew" i cannot understand the staffs anguish at our late return, we did this pub crawl again for a second night this time we lasted until the end of the crawl and upon return to the hotel we were confronted with angry staff, why?? we were not that drunk, were they angry because we were making them do there job?? i for one cannot answer that question. The hotel organised our taxi from the airport, which indeed was very good of them, and this journey cos in total €60, which considering there was 5 of us was a reasonable price, the same journey however, conducted with the same taxi firm, cost us €80 on return to the airport, to which i was shocked and astounded, in our rooms the air conditioning wasn't great so we had a fan to keep the ambient temperature in the room down, however i was shocked and dismayed to find the plug for the fan was 'dodgy' to say the least so more often than not the room was uncomfotably hot, out saving grace was the air conditioning on the corridor outside our room, as this worked immaculately and as a result we proped our door open to reap the benefits of this air conditioning system. In fact the best part of the hotel was a combined coat hanger and trouser press on wheels, which we aptly named jenkins. in conclusion, if you are a student looking for a cheap holiday hotel, stay away, that is unless you enjoy winding up hotel porters, and it that case you'll love this place, the hotel would be ideal for families looking for a cheap roman gettaway, before i forget to mention the area surrounding the hotel is a little bit dodgy especially late at night, so if you have children then stay away

Decent hotel near the station

from A TripAdvisor Member
We spent a week in the Kennedy hotel in august-september. In my opinion it is a decent hotel in central European standards. Location is good, a block away from the termini. We read in some reviews that the termini is not the best location to stay, but we did not have any problems with it. The room was somewhat small but very clean. A/C worked ok and the bathroom was ok as well. Breakfast was not very good, but that was not so important to us anyway. The staff was nice. For this price the Kennedy hotel is a good place to stay, we would go there again.

Awful, terrible facilities and staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is listed as 3 star hotel and it really doesn't make it. We had a comedy of errors with this place and the way the staff treated when things went wrong was disgusting - they never apologised or treated us with any courtesy. First of all when we checked in, the toilet seat and shower head attachment were brocken. We reported it and one thing was fixed. When we went to have a shower we found the drain was so blocked we were standing in inches of water and had to turn off the tap for fear of the water overflowing. We asked to be moved and were moved to a much smaller room. In our 2nd room the air conditioning after the first night would not work. We reported it in the morning, nothing was done and in fact were disbelieved that the air conditioning was not working and told we were wrong. That night it was still not working, the night staff admitted it was not working, could not fix it or move us, could not do anything for us or even apologise. The rooms look old and well used with 60s decor. It is right near the central train station but don't go there - it is not worth the hassle.

The Kennedy is an OK place to stay

from CallerDale
Our room faced the park as well, unfortunately the trash, and homeless seem to collect there too.
The breakfast is not great, it's ok. (sweet bread, cereal)
Our A/C did not work ether, however the hotel provided a fan, so the room temperature was comfortable.
The bathrooms are small, but functionable.
Bottom line...This hotel is close to the terminal, (lots of grafitti around the area, disappointing)with easy access to tours, busses, and taxis.
There are lots of sidewalk restaurants nearby.(good too!)
If you want easy access to tours, and restaurants, and don't require luxury, then stay here.

Exceptional Value

from A TripAdvisor Member
After a very pleasant stay at the Hotel Kennedy I feel I must put future customers at easy - the hotel is spotlessly clean and the rooms are perfectly adequate, the staff are extremely helpfull and pleasant. The area where the hotel is situated is nowhere near as bad as publicised do not let this put you off, the positives far out weigh the negatives. Being close to Termini is definately an advantage if you only have a couple of days to fit everything in. I would definately stay there again.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Ostia Antica Make it a point to go see Ostia Antica just a 30 minute metro ride from Rome. It is a ruined city similar to Pompei only without the tourist crowds! My husband and I were virtually alone in February. Beautiful! It was an experience I will never forget!
