Clean, safe, quiet and inexpensive

I felt like I'd hit the jackpot when I came across this place. I've recommended it to several friends and they all enjoyed their stays. I'm in Rome several times a year for personal business but can't afford a 'luxury' hotel, and after too many swampy hostels I was thrilled to stumble on Katty. The couple who run it don't speak much English, but are patient with people with limited Italian. Payment only in cash. The clientele and slightly strict noise standards ensure that your sleep won't be disturbed, and the rooms are spotless. It's also the only place I know in Rome where you can get air conditioning without paying through the nose! Cute balconies in some of the rooms too.

We arrived in Rome extremely tired from a trek full of delays, and with no place to stay. We wanted to stay close to Termini station simply because we were so tired and didn't think we could walk any further. We came across this hotel, and, although full, managed to understand that there would likely be a room available at 7 that evening (almost no English spoken here, but extremely pleasant and helpful with little communication). Since it was now noon, she pointed to some lockers where we could keep our bags, and showed us a washroom where she let us shower before we went out for the day. Extremely friendly!
When we returned that evening, she showed us our room: one with our own bath, extremely clean, and bright - All for cheaper than the hostel down the street. Trust me, this is fantastic! I normally stay at Sheraton's and such, and this was my first "budget" trip with my boyfriend, and this certainly was anything but. I will definitely return. In fact, I almost feel a little like I shouldn't write this review, as I want it to continue to be a hidden little gem!

I stayed at the Hotel Katty twice, once with my husband in 2000 and again with my sister in 2004. The hotel was inexpensive, very clean and close to Termini. It helps if you can walk a few blocks. I would go again. No English and I always paid in cash which was the only way I think. I gave it an 8 because it was very good, I only stay in hostels and 1 star hotels so I have no idea of what luxury hotels are like in Europe.

Never take rianair bus There is a 2.5 EUR shuttle bus + comfy train to the centre which is the same speed even counting the change time compared to 8EUR of ryaniar shuttle bus which goes only once in half hour.The bus is advertised as the cheapest, but it is the MOST EXPENSIVE!
