Top Local Tips for Rome
Learn the language Make a really good effort to learn the language. If you try to converse with the locals they will love you for it. They are very warm and friendly people and love to help you in any way thay can but....cannot speak English. So, you being the vistor, make the effort to learn some Italian. I did and found they really appreciated my efforts.
Be ready to walk Do a bit of homework about bus routes .Rather than taking a hop on ,off tour guide ,buy a three day city bus ticket at any tabachhi(tobacco shop).From near the railway station catch bus 40 which takes you faster to the center with many important places onthe way.Getting on and off a tour bus wastes a lot of time as it goes in a rounabout way ,the commentary is ok not exceptional ,keep a map ,be ready to walk , buy online entry tickets if you want to get into museums
Bus Tickets. Buy a day ticket for €4.00 or a three day ticket for €11. Can be used on all buses, trams and metro lines. Best way to get around. Be careful in traffic and at crossings. In our experience we found that sometimes they dont obey traffic lights.
