We stayed in the jolly hotel for a week for my aunts wedding. when we all arrived first, are first impressions was a clean business like hotel (not very good since there was about 16 kids and even more adults) but they were fine with it! then we all checked in then we went to are rooms the room we booked was supposed to be a room for four, but when we got in there was only a double bed and a single so we had to get another bed in for that night and it was a squash, so we had to get a bigger room in the mourning. The room we got wasn't the case for everyone my other two aunts with 2 adults and 4 kids each got 2 very spacious apartments, in one of them there was a master bedroom, kid's bedroom, walk in wardrobe, two bathrooms, and a big balcony. On the other hand my grandparents and about the rest of my family got quite small rooms even the one that was getting married! The same night, when we sorted out the rooms we were going down to get some bar food, but all food was finished for that day so some of us decided to go for a walk, we walked for about one minuet around the corner and we found McDonald's and loads of cheap pizza places so that was great seen as the food and drinks were very expensive (plate of chips 8 euro) at the hotel, it was great for all the kids. The bar closed at 12 every night but a few of them when down to the super-market and you could buy cans of drink for a quarter of the price! There was an outside pool, but there wasn't a kiddie's pool so they just had to wear armbands, we didn't need to bring towels because there is a life guard giving out clean towels everyday at the pool. At the hotel also was a spa and a gym. We went site seeing quite abit as well , we went to see the Colluseoum,Vatican, Cistin Chapel, Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain and we seen where all the previous popes were buried. Since my aunt got married, we had an audience with the Pope which was great! The wedding itself was at the Irish college and when it was over we all went back to the hotel and did nothing but sit by the pool all day then at around half 5 we went to get ready for the wedding meal. The meal went on for about 3 hours because that's what the Italians do, when we first went in there was a buffet of little pizzas and brochettes and stuff like that with champagne then there was spagatti bolonage, fish, steak and a few other courses. When the meal was finished the cake had to be cut and the speeches had to be said. The staffs were very nice through out the whole night. The wedding was a wedding not to be forgotten and the holiday was great, would definately go back there again some day!

Top Local Tips for Rome

The Vatican Don't visit the Vatican on the last Sunday of the month as the paying parts are free and therefore attracts approx 25,000 people! We visited the day before and although we had to queue, it moved quickly. Be aware also that you are continually moved on when walking through the tomb of the Popes and other areas and so long queues can result in a 3 min viewing.

Buses You have to get a bus ticket before boarding the bus. We had to get off and find a grocery store to buy ours.

Shopping for women's clothes Travelling out to the Castel Romano outlet outside of Rome is not worth the journey. Myself and my husband bought far more in the shopping centre (Parco Leonardo) the day before. The outlet is very far outside the city and having bought very little there and spent an entire day getting there and back we wished we hadn't bothered. On the bus back most people only had one small bag each.
