Historical Traveller Reviews of Isa Hotel

Hotel Isa

from Wassermann
We stayed at the Isa for 5 nights this past may and had a wonderful time. The staff at the desk was helpful and curteous and the breakfast buffet was excellent for Italy.

Our room on the corner of the 5th floor was clean and bright with windows that allowed for a nice breeze. The bathrooms were nice and well maintained and we would not hesitate to stay here again and recommend this hotel to others.

One caveat though. The fifth floor, especially the rooms from 500-505 are right under the rooftop breakfast patio and the sound of scraping chairs begins promptly at 730AM. This wasn't a problem for us, but if you are not an early riser and a light sleeper, this may be an issue to consider.

Ideal location

Stayed at the Isa for four nights in mid March. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and well maintained, if on the small side, although they have everything that you would need (including a balcony). Shower did not work properly when we arrived, although this was sorted out straight away.

Location is ideal. In four days we saw most of the sights in the city and walked everywhere.

We would go back to the ISA

Small but beautifully marked!

Just returned from a 3 night break in Rome in mid-March. We were very satisfied with the Isa and would recommend it to all. It's in an ideal location for the sites being close to Ponte Umberto and Lapanto Metro. The rooms are small-ish (at least ours was) but it was very well kitted out with everything you could possible want apart from tea/coffee making facilities, (so take a travel kettle). Staff were friendly and breakfast, we thought, was terrific. Our one criticism would be that the room was warm. The air-conditioning wasn't switched on centrally and even with the balcony window open all the time it was "sticky", but then, we're used to the cool North East of England whereas the Romans were walking about in overcoats and scarfs!

Good tourist base.

Very good location for sights, smallish room but clean, tidy, decent breakfasts, friendly staff and 8 mins walk from Lepanto underground Station!

Would return.

Great hotel, great location, great value

from NJNorman
We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Hotel Isa in Rome. The room and ensuite bathroom were quite small, but beautifully decorated, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel has a great location too, within walking distance of many of the major attractions. AND it was very good value.
Would definitely recommend staying there.

Very satisfied at Isa

I just returned from 6 nights at hotel Isa. We had the "honeymoon suite" number 509. The room itself was nicer than I expected. Large and clean, although it smelled of smoke from nearby rooms during prime morning and evening hours. The bed was large, albeit firm. Interesting lighting throughout was a nice touch. Had a new lcd tv, but only english channel is bbc world. The jacuzzi tub was nice, but loud. The walls carry a lot of sound and you can hear neighboring rooms at times, so we tried not to use the tub that often. Noise from the street can be a problem at night, so we had to keep the balcony doors closed most of the time. There isn't much traffic at night, but the sounds carried upwards too well. The breaksfast was good...typical rolls/bread and nutella and jelly. Also had some scrambled eggs if you arrived early enough, and fresh squeezed OJ (although the oranges looked moldy inside, so you might want to pick up an orange first.) Staff was friendly and helpful.
I saw inside the room next door and was not impressed. Very simple...small with two single beds. Hotel was in a decent part of town. Safe feeling, and near the vatican and cola di rienzo.
Not cheap at 250 euro a night, but we were more than happy and would return to this Hotel if room 509 is available.

Great place to stay!

My husband and I booked Hotel Isa through expedia.com for a week November 7, 2004. We were not dissapointed at all. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. We stayed on the 5th floor in a double, queen size bed. The room was a nice size for Europe standards, and the bathroom was compact, but very modern. The water pressure was great, and the room and bathroom were very clean. The room had a a very sweet balcony with a dinette table for two. We slept with the windows open for cool air, but got a few mosquito bites from that. The bed was a very firm bed, it didn't bother us though. The pillows were too heavy and hard, I mean super hard. We didn't bother asking for different pillows though. The breakfast buffet was great: scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, cereal, milk, juice, hot teas, cappacino, croissants, fruit, and dessert torts. Plenty to choose from and eat everyday. Hotel arranged for a discounted cab ride for us back to the airport. Hotel is in a good location, about 4 blocks west of the river. Super close to St. Angelo's Castle and the Vatican. The pictures on the hotel website are very accurate too.
We highly recommend this hotel.

Good Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed three days in October as the final leg of our 17 day Italian trip. The room had a small A/C which was beneficial to cool the room down quickly after visiting the local attractions all day. The room showed some signs of wear in the carpeting. The recent addition of an elevator was helpful in geting our tired legs up to our room. The breakfast was very good and location at 6 blocks from the Vatican was a benefit.

Highly Recommended

I highly recommend this hotel having stayed there at the beginning of July for four nights.

This hotel had everything you could ask for and was reasonably priced.

The rooms were cool and spacious and location good for the vatican and within easy access via Metro or walk to most of the attractions.

The staff at the hotel were very helpful and the breakfast was very nice with plenty of variety.

Great place to visit Rome

from doasc
We stayed 4 nights in Hotel Isa to start our 15 day trip in Italy. I choose Hotel Isa based on location and positive reviews here and elsewhere. I was not disappointed.

We arrived around 1 PM. The staff was quick to get our room ready so we could rest after the red-eye flight to europe. The staff spoke GOOD english and was helpful in everything we asked (directions, taxi, tours, etc). We had two triples and the rooms were large, comfortable and looked like the pictures on their website. We ranked their breakfast as one of the best we experienced. They would change the menu daily, but would accomodate any request (cold Chocolate Milk!!).

For us the location is ideal. It is one block away from a major bus end stop. There were a number of really good restaurants within a few blocks, ATM on the corner, high quality Photo Shop one block over, convience store in the block. The Vatican was a 10 minute walk through a nice residential area and the Colosseum (relatively far away) is a 30 minute walk. It was nice to be away from the tourist areas when returned to the hotel.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Ciampino Airport Travel guides make a lot of fuss about difficulties of public transport to/from Rome & recommend using Terravision coaches from the airport (14 euros return). We used the local bus to the Anagnina metro station as our hotel was on the Metro. This cost 4 euros return, was easy (buy tickets on the bus) and from discussion was quicker than the coach. The only catch is that buses are only every 40 minutes and alternate between direct (10 mins) and stopping (25 mins) so you need to allow for this (we had a 40 minute wait & still beat the coach). (There is a taxi rank at the bus/metro interchange if you are running late).

Dont let taxi drivers rip you off Before getting a taxi discuss price before they rip you off! its easy enough for them to jack up prices just to rip off a tourist so before you do so discuss prices and find a price suitable for both of you

Which bus is which? If you're a solo or independent travler, getting to know the public transportation system will save time and money. Checking out the stops near your chosen hotel will save you effort in planning your touring. Bus stops are clearly marked and understandable. buying a Three day bus pass is a real deal.
