where to go when it's hot When crowded and hot go to the churches, hardly anyone else is there, almost all are cool inside and are interesting to see. While the Vatican is impressive you can also see many beautiful works of art in quiter and less crowded conditions by visiting Romes numerous Churches.

Trastevere! Trastevere is a great place to start, continue, and end your evening. At about 6 or 7, there was a little orchestra playing in Piazza Santa Maria each night (I don't know if this is normal, but during my stay, this was the case). Then, the streets of Trastevere start to fill up. There are tons of great and affordable restaurants, bars and cafes. There are street performers and people sell jewelry, clothing, and purses along the streets as well. The scene is appropriate for both younger and older people.

Restaurant Suggestion We dined at IL DuCa in Trastevere (Vicolo del Cinque, 52-56 tel: 06.5817706). There are tons of cheap eats and great little restaurants in the area but we found the food here to be better than the other places within the area. The house chianti is really good, the pasta is perfectly cooked. They could have had better dessert options but there's always gelato. With bottled water, a bottle of chianti, two entrees, shared dessert and 2 coffees, the bill came to 36 Euro.
