Top Local Tips for Rome

Two great places to have lunch/dinner Two guides recommended both Constanza (in a hard to find place near the old Theatre of Pompey in Piazzo del Paradiso 63) and Restaurant La Campana (in a little alley way off of the Tiber) and both were excellent. We had lunch in Constanza one afternoon and the risotta was fantastic- furthermore, for ancient history enthusiasts, this restaurant is in one of the passageways that led into the Theatre of Pompey (e.g. where Caesar was killed). The Restaurant la Campana was fantastic, although try to get a reservation (we were lucky). The ravoli with ricotti was the best I have ever tasted, my boyfriend was very happy with the lasagne and my second dish of calamari was honestly also the best I have ever tasted. Both are strongly recommended!

Too much choice isn't always a good thing There are thousands of places to eat in Rome and other than going with your guide book, the only real way to find out where is good is to try it. I liked two restaurants by Piazza Navona - Zir Ciro and Hosteria Dell Gallo. The first gave us an English translation of the menu (most have Italian with English translation below). Feeling brave two of us ordered starters called "Whimsical" and "Tastes by Buffet" with no idea what would arrive. Both turned out to be really tasty and vegetarian (I won't spoil the mystery...). The Hosteria Dell Gallo had the cleanest toilets we'd seen the whole trip.

Watch out for crooks You have to be on your toes in this city. The people are not that friendly overall and be prepared to be ripped off if you don't do your homework. You can have a great time in this city but be aware.
