Top Local Tips for Rome

When and where and how Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes as there is a lot of walking and I mean a lot! Best to go when the weather is mild. My son and I were there 22 May for four nights. Though it is supposed to be still mild being just before the start of their hot summer, there was a heat wave. I think I would have enjoyed Rome more if it had been cooler. But then again, the weather changed the day we were leaving for Florence and it was mild in Florence, even cold at times and certainly cold and rainy in Venice. So, you might say, it is four seasons in one!!

Service charge Always ask before you order anything in a restaurant if there are any extra charges. Some charge 15% automatically for service, others let you decide (which I personally think is better). You can get really stung if you've have a big meal, then have to pay a hefty 15% service charge no matter how good or bad the service had been!

Rome Hotels Do not expect too much from 2 or 3* hotels as Rome is very busy and very touristy. Most people can get around and see Rome in 3-4 days so this is all you should need to enjoy your time in Rome. Average cost should be 90 - 140 euro p/night for a comfortable and adequate sized room. Rome is GREAT!!! Don't forget to throw your coin into the Trevi fountain to ensure your return to Rome. IT WORKS!! ( I have been 3 times now)
