Top Local Tips for Rome

Watch out for C.u.c.i.n.a. Kitchen shop I was recently in Rome and stayed around the corner from CUCINA in the shopping district near Spanish Steps. An avid cook I wanted to bring back some pieces for preparing some of the dishes I had experienced. Unfortunately most of the items in the store are made elsewhere than in Italy. I wanted a bread basket that I thought was Italian linen with olive wood frame. I had seen the real deal early on in the countryside but figured I would wait to the end of the trip. BIG MISTAKE. After I purchased the basket I returned to the hotel. After inspection I found a label with made in PRC (China). No olive wood no Italian linen. When I went back I was told to pick something else out if I did not like the basket. Walking through the store I could not find anything that was authentic Italian anywhere. I could not get a refund “where do you think you are, in America?" I had to pick out some wine glasses (no stems) that the smaller osterria serve local wine in. They didn't have a made in stamp, but betting they are PRC also. I would skip this place and look for more authentic pieces offered in other shops and in the country side. This place is a ripoff.

Numero Sette A waiter that used to work at the enoteca we frequent every year we visit Rome has opened a restaurant of his own and we found it to be WONDERFUL! The food is edgy and classic at the same time. Very affordable and if you're a big eater, the portions are generous. The restaurant is close to the Furio Camillo metro stop. Via muzio scevola, 37/39 00181 - Roma (RM) 06.789170 Ask for Uvaldo and tell him Jorge from the US recommended his restaurant!

Train it Use the train from Fiumicino, its cheap and quick.if you are staying city centre, the taxi ride from Termini is short and also cheap.
