Amzingly Friendly staff

My brother and I stayed here for a week, and we think it is one of the friendliest hotels we have ever stayed in! The staff are massively helpful and genuinely friendly (not condescending) The hotel is not huge, but it is clean, well decorated and situated in a great shopping area, with easy walking distances to the attractions. The breakfast is superb! We loved our stay at the Britannia, and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a comfortable pleasant stay in Rome. I'm sure there are grander hotels near-by but I am certain they won't have the personal friendly touch of the Britannia!

Pleasant stay

We had a 3 night stay at the Britannia and were pleased with it, having chosen after reviewing in Trip Advisor'. The room was smallish and in need of a coat of paint but clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was very good and all worked well. The breakfasts were excellent and the attitude and friendliness of the staff superb. Add to this the location - within walking distance of the major sites, on all the good bus routes and close to termini station and it's pretty hard to beat for its class. Just for info their cab firm only costs 45 Euro from the airport and can be prebooked.

I stayed in Europe for two months and this hotel room was definately one of the smallest I stayed in. However, the nice bathroom and great breakfast made up for this shortcoming. But the staff is what put this hotel over the top - they were extremely helpful and friendly. Pretty good location, although I got lost a couple of times trying to find my way back.

Very clean, very comfortable,good location. Yes, the elevator was small and they do have some steps to climb but they were very friendly and welcomed us to their hotel. Cookies and juice when you arrive. The buffet breakfast offers a lot of choices. I wish I stayed there longer. I will stay there again.

Excellent hotel, highly recommended

This is a gem of a hotel. Perfectly located not more than 10 minutes walk from any of the main tourist attractions (except Vatican). Staff are very friendly and helpful. They even recommended a restaurant for us and booked the table.

Would recommend getting down for breakfast before 9 as the room is small and it gets busy but the choice of breakfast is good and the fresh fruit on each floor is welcome after a long day exploring.

Top tip: If you are looking for a bus tour of the city you can catch the Rome Sightseeing bus (similar to the Guide Friday here in the UK) from the Basilica behind the hotel - excellent for hopping on and off and valid for 24 hours. We took the tour in the pm one day and then used the ticket to get us to the Vatican the next day as the Vatican is about a 30 minute walk from the hotel and you'll be tired after it!

The hotel has lots of guide books and maps available and the staff are all happy to offer advice on where to go and the best way to get there.

Excellent hotel and would highly recommend if you are looking for an oasis in the busy city.

Good value, good location

Location- good. Quiet backstreet, 15 min walking distance from most places.

Accommodation- Well decorated public rooms, but small. Bedrooms Ok for 4*, but not exceptional. Looked a bit tired in decor and appointments.

Service- Good

Breakfast- Excellent, with hot buffet

I booked the hotel, because it was a platinum rated hotel in Magic of Italy. I was frankly disappointed against that rating, but overall a good value, good quality hotel. I paid approx £80 per room and would recommend it.

A good all rounder

Its never easy choosing a hotel when you read the reviews. This hotel is conviently situated off 'Via Nationalle' one of the main streets. Very friendly staff, fantastic choice of breakfast and quiet rooms. There's also a suprise left in your bedroom everynight as a way of saying 'good night'....this is a safe choice for most people.

The Britannia is a calm oasis in the (wonderful) chaos that is Rome. The staff was unbelievably helpful, arranging for taxis, restaurant reservations and the like with calm efficiency and always a pleasant attitude. I think they actually like tourists! The breakfast was excellent (love that coffee!). The only criticism is that the air conditioning in our top floor room couldn't keep up with the Roman heat. We would definitely revisit the Britannia and ask for a cooler room.

Great, Not Superb

The Britannia is nicely set on a side street off of a major street where taxi's and shopping can be found. The staff was very helpful, offering juices and cookies on our arrival and helping out with extra keys when needed. The rooms are a bit small, but one of our two rooms was more spacious and had a fishtank. The breakfast is excellent, but the room is small so there can be a line right around 9am so eat early for a peaceful meal. Piazza Republica is nearby with great outdoor seating for ice cream and drinks. The restaurants recommended to us were good, not great. Oddly, the room key slides into a slot that controls the lights. If removed, all lights go out, so this didn't work out when one person was in the room and the other person went out. Although not an inconvienience, an oddity. Definitely recommend looking at hotels for the best price.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Reserve advance tickets or tours - even in the off season! The lines were incredibly long at the Vatican Museum (even in the rain!) and the Colosseum, so we strongly recommend getting advance tickets where available, or taking a guided tour, even if you're not a "guided tour" kind of person.

From airport to Termini Buy the bus tickets at the airport and not on the flight.

Taxi rip-off When you arrive by bus from the airport, passengers are dropped off near to the main Termini Railway Station. Do not accept offers of a taxi ride to your hotel from the "taxi drivers" who hang around the immediate bus drop-off point waiting to pounce on any unsuspecting visitor - instead walk 100 yards round the corner to the main Termini entrance and ensure you agree/accept the services of an official taxi from the rank there. We learned that acquaintances on our bus were scammed for 70+ euros for a five minute taxi ride to their hotel after using one of these unofficial "taxis".
