Excellent service, lovely views and would recommend to everyone to stay in this hotel. I travelled with my friends daughter who is 18 years old and she loved the hotel. Only item missing a kettle to make a cup of coffee otherwise all your needs are catered for.

Hotel Alimandi is an excellent choice!

This was my second trip to Rome, and I brought a friend with me who had never been. After doing lots of research I chose the Alimandi 4 Star based on what I read on-line. My friend and I were not disappointed! This is a fantastic little property, and although a bit pricy for our Canadian dollar (155 EUR standard double room), we would stay there again in a heartbeat! It is one of the few hotels that offers free shuttle to and from the airport, saving a chunk of money. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are small, but suprisingly efficient and very clean! The A/C was remote controlled and very comfortable, the hotel decor beautifully quaint with venetian plaster and stone finishes. The breakfast on the roof-top patio was the best though, a buffet of both hot and cold choices, eggs, bacon, veggies, toast, pasteries, cereal, juice, teas and coffee, all included in the room. We walked 8 hours every day, so a good breakfast was a must! They even had an internet terminal available for 1EUR 1/2 hour. Sure, we could have stayed closer to the Spanish Steps or Piazza Navona, but this hotel is literally in front of the entrance of the Vatican Museum, and a 30min. walk to the Colloseum, Ghetto, or wherever. This a walking town, and for us, the Alimandi met our every need! Oh yeah, just down the street along the Vatican Wall is the Old Bridge Gelato shop, where the locals gather for their nitely treat at 10p. For the gelato experience of your life, don't miss this one!

It meets the 4 star rating, a small 30 room, but luxury Hotel, spacious rooms, marble baths. Nice staff. Directly across the street from the Vatican Museum! Two blocks from Saint Peters Basillica and Pope Jonh Paul II's tomb. Plenty of resturants near buy, and shopping. A casual inexpensive resturant is directly one block down from the Hotel. It had excellent food, prices were really good, wine by the bottle was very reasonable. The restuarant was reviewed by Rick Steves (the travel channel) and Frommers. Metro near by, to get you to other famous sites,Coliseum? etc.

My wife and I finished our honeymoon in Rome and stayed for two nights in the 4* Alimandi. Its an excellent hotel and couldnt find any fault with it or the lovely staff who work there. Despite booking a standard double, we were also given room 304 which as it says in a post below is a excellent suite with a private terace overlooking the vatican musuem. We would certainly recomend this hotel and we would definately stay again next time were in Rome.

We stayed at the Hotel Alimandi for a week in May and were very happy with our choice. We had been reading review after review and, being that this was our first time in Rome, we really had no idea what to expect from any of the hotels. Hotel Alimandi (the 4 star-- there is a 3 star Alimandi, the original, just across the street from this one) is located directly across the street from the entrance to the Vatican Museum. The Vatican, the train station and the many restaurants, bars, gelaterias in the neighborhood are all in the immediate area of the hotel. The big tourist sites such as the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, Trevi fountain, Pantheon, etc... are a bit further away, but being from NY we did not mind the 15- 20 minute walk.
The hotel was very clean and the service was good. There was also complimentary breakfast each morning. The room we had was very small-- You can book a bigger double, but I think they charge you more for it. We had gone to Florence after Rome and then returned to the Hotel Alimandi for our last night in Italy, and when we came back, we were upgraded (without asking, and without a charge) to a huge room with two king beds (even though we only needed one) and a very big bathroom.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone whose stay in Rome would not revolve around a big nightlife. Because the hotel is situated right outside the Vatican, a lot of the stores and carts that are open at the crack of dawn close up at the same time as the museum, and the two restaurants right next door to the hotel close, as well. There are still many restaurants/gelaterias/pharmacy-like stores that stay open, but if you wanted to go back to the Trevi Fountain or Spanish Steps, you would have to take a cab. Most days we were up early and were done with dinner and gelato and back at the hotel by 10:pm or 11:pm so this hotel worked for us.
For the price and location we thought this was a good choice and would definitely stay there again.

ting the many sites in Rome. Friends had recommended Hotel Alimandi to us because of the staff and when arrived, we immediately experienced this warm hospitality and pride in their establishment. The hotel's exterior is nothing special but the interior is very nicely decorated (actually, there is also an annex directly behind the main hotel). The large, modern rooms have air-conditioning, plasma TVs (although we sure didn't spend much time watching TV!) as well as very large, modern bathrooms and the main hotel is located right across the street from the entrance to the Sistine Chapel. You had a choice of having the breakfast buffet in a large room next to the main lobby of the main hotel or at the rooftop garden at the annex (our choice after we discovered we could have our breakfast there). The buffet (both) had a large selection of breakfast foods (the first time we had eggs on our entire trip!!! Italians must not eat eggs for breakfast often) but, once again, the staff was the highpoint here....Francesco and his father, Luigi (one of the brothers/co-owners), who staffed the rooftop garden buffet, were friendly and warm...a very pleasant way to start each morning. Evenings you had a choice of having a drink in a very nice bar at the side of the main lobby or you could go to the annex, get a drink at the small bar there and take it up to the rooftop garden to enjoy while taking in the rooftop view of Rome and the Vatican City. Every staff person we encountered was very friendly and helpful. When the time came for us to leave, alas, we were leaving for the airport on a Sunday when they didn't offer their free shuttle service to the airport. When we inquired at the front desk about alternative transportation, they immediately arranged for their shuttle to arrive for us the next morning, on Sunday, to take us to the airport. When we asked how much this would cost, they replied that we should just remember to give the driver a good tip! The days that we stayed they recommended wonderful restaurants, within an easy walk of the hotel, that were small, frequented by the locals, with good food and great prices. The major sites (as I mentioned, the hotel is situated right across the street from the Vatican City so it is maybe a 7 minute walk to St. Peter's) were all quickly and easily accessible by cab. I would highly recommend the Hotel Alimandi to anyone visiting Rome.

Stayed at the Alimandi 4* in June 2005. This hotel is excellent in all senses. The staff is very helpfull and welcoming. We stayed in room 304 which is a suite. It was beatifull. It has a living room, a bedroom, a bathroom and your own private patio which over looks into the vatican. It is a very spacious room. Breakfast was good. But their were some unusal items. Pasta, rice, breaded chicken. Crosants, fruit, yogurt, cereal, eggs were excellente. I highly recomend this hotel. It is directly in front of the vatican museum. This makes seeing vatican city very easy. The hotel is also close to the metro. This makes it easy to travel to the other sites around rome. Metro system very easy to use.

Overall the hotel is excellent.

A party of six of us spent 4 days at the Alimandi (4* - beware there is also a 3* across the street) in February 2005. I can say nothing but good things about this hotel. My boyfriend and I had a beautiful double room with two massive beds, marble floors, excellent, large clean bathroom with powerful shower and plenty of space. It was luxury. As stated the hotel is right across from the entrance to the Vatican Museum and very handy to St Peter's Square. Everywhere else is within taxi distance and the taxis are not expensive (although the driving is atrocious!). The Colloseum was the most impressive sight - I'd recommend a guided tour, you find out so much more.

The staff here are so friendly and speak perfect English if you haven't got much Italian.

The only thing I would warn others of are the restaurants recommended by the hotel. We found these not necessarily the best. Stick to your Guide Book recommendations.

Overall, highly recommended. (And Ireland stuffed Italy in the Six Nations!)

Immaculate and Convenient to the Vatican

We stayed at the 4* Viale Vaticano Alimandi Hotel for 3 nights at the end of April and were able to take advantage of the free guided tour of the Vatican Museum offered by the hotel. It was wonderful and Signora Alimandi (Grazia) went out of her way to make sure we got to the tour and paid for it! The hotel was absolutely spotless...could have eaten off of the floors. It is a newly renovated, quiet hotel with two terraces, a great breakfast, nice small bar and internet access in the basement. While it is out of the way for all of the Roman touristy sites, it is a stone's throw from the Vatican Museum and well worth the location as the line for the Museum is very very long in the mornings! Grazia (Signora Alimandi) is a delightful lady who gave us a history of the area and even took us jewelry shopping right around the corner from the hotel. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and if leaving on Mon.-Saturday, would take advantage of the free airport shuttle. A tip for getting around Rome....take a taxi to the various sites...they are cheap and you can save your energy for touring.

Staying in Rome at the Hotel Alimandi Vaticano, which is situated just outside the walls of the Vatican and directly opposite the entrance to the Vatican Museum, gives you the opportunity to experience Rome in a truly unique way. What makes it so special is that instead of being in an ordinary impersonal hotel environment you are immediately swept up into the warmth of a large Roman family. The hotel is run almost entirely by members of the large Roman Alimandi family. and whatever your needs or enquiries you will always find a friendly and efficient response.

My stay at Hotel Alimandi Vaticano provided me with an oasis of peace in the midst of the hub of a busy city. The decor is calm and tranquil throughout, the paintings on the walls beautifully chosen to depict various Roman scenic spots. The lobby is cosy and welcoming, the breakfast room airy and spacious, and the bar a place where one can truly relax.

My bedroom was elegantly furnished but with a tranquil simolicity, there were ADSL and Internet connections in the room and there is even an answering machine connected to the Direct Dial telephone!

The full Buffet Breakfast was copious and delicious, and the hotel also provided a shuttle service tp the Airport aand back so there was no hassle with having to make my own way into the city.

I have no hesitation in recommending Hotel Alimandi Vaticano as a truly great place to stay in and certainly fantasic value for money. I certainly will be staying there on my next visit!

We have just returned from a three night stay here. The very best thing about the 4 star Alimandi hotel is that it is absolutely spotless, couldn't fault it on that at all, every area of this hotel is clean as a whistle. It is also in an ideal location if you are mainly going to be visiting the vatican and associated museums. It is about a 5 minute walk to the subway and the open top tour bus stops fairly near by.

Would have given it 4 stars, but for 2 reasons. We requested a third floor room, as we were going to rome for my birthday, and the third floor rooms have views of the vatican. We were e-mailed back and told that we could have a suit for 30 euros extra a day. We accepted. When we arrived at the hotel we were given a room 207 on the second floor, and when we got in it, it was just a room not a suite. My husband went back down to reception and was told it was an Italian suite! This hotel has three grades of room, standard, superior and suite. We were charged for a suite, and led to believe it would be on the third floor with a view. What we had was a large bedroom and a bathroom, which if we were not expecting a suite we would have been very happy with. It was very clean and comfortable, with a mini bar, Tv and DVD player. The DVD player did not have a channel on the TV however and the reception told us it was not able to be used. The bathroom door also didn't lock and despite my request for them to fix it, it never was. Now, I would not have paid the extra 90 euros in total for this room, because at best it was possibly just larger than a standard room. We were really looking forward to having a suite, and as such started off disappointed. Which was a shame.

The second disappointment was the breakfast. It looked very nice, if a bit odd, with carrots and other vegetables. Unfortunately every single morning it was cold. They had the food under a heat lamp but the food was cold and so we didn't eat it, as it is not safe to put meat and stuff under a heat lamp for hours. It was also fairly oily. The coffee was excellent though, and there was a toaster to make your own toast and plenty of jam and fruit.

To sum up, make sure you know what you are being charged for, it was very disappointing to expect and pay for a suite and end up with just a bedroom, and that did put a damper on things to start with. This hotel is very clean indeed and that stands for a lot. If the breakfast had been hot, and we had been given the room we were lead to expect I would have rated it higher after all cleanliness is next to godliness and this hotel is very close to the vatican!

I read your review and was very sorry that your stay in the Alimandi Hotel was not all you had hoped.
Not all the fault was with the Hotel, as one or two things were misunderstood on your behalf, so I felt must write to put them right for you and for other readers of the reviews.
All the third floor rooms are on the other side of the Hotel, not overlooking the Vatican, except a large deluxe room (or Suite so called owing to the dimension of the room) for 4 persons and that overlooks the Vatican only from the terrace.
I do admit that the name "suite" could lead to imagening the american style 2 room suite, but the name is given to a room of a certain size, plus certain extras avoid any other misunderstandings in the future.
You did in fact have a deluxe room (or suite).
The breakfast starts off hot at 07.30 a.m. depending on what time you come down to eat the heat is always a little less but if you wanted varius foods heated, you only had to ask.
The heating of the food in NOT done by lamps but by heated water under the containers, all within the regulations of the health requirements.
The lights are only for better viewing of the food displayed.
As all our guests come from many different parts of the world, We caters for a variety of tastes especially at breakfast of which all guests are invited to partake.
As for the DVD it was checked and was found to be in working order.
It works when a DVD disc is insert into the machine. This you hire or you can being your own. The finding of the channel on the TV is automatic once AV has been inserted.
All private bathroom doors in Hotels do not lock, it is a safety precaution in case of fire that all Hotels must follow. Only bathrooms used by the public have locks.

Must Go --- La Zucca Gialla Restaurant Please make sure you go to La Zucca Gialla restaurant --- The food is unbelievably good --- honestly. My son found this restaurant when he was in school abroad last year and raved about it. We went to Rome in December and La Zucca Gialla was our first stop. The food is incredible --- Ravioli di zucca is to die for, honestly. I've never left a restaurant review before, so you know this has to be good!
