Top Local Tips for Rome

Vatican, Gypsies and cellphones Groups can get reservations for the Vatican. Otherwise, you will stand in line for hours waiting to get in. Be careful of Gypsies who catch new tourists as they get off of a bus for the first time. They will try to show you a baby while they pick your pockets. Our hotel didn't have touchtone phones so calling cards don't work. A cell phone is expensive but essential in the large crowds if you have several in your group. It's easy to get lost. Have a place to meet. The weather was great in May. Be careful and have fun! Rome is beautiful!

Vatican City Tour Pricey but worth every single penny - booked a vatican city museum and St Peters basilica tour. Avoided very long queues and had a headset for commentary. The 3 and a half hours flew by with interesting facts and plenty of anecdotal stories. We are not historical academics but thoroughly enjoyed every minute and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour. We booked prior to our trip through Myvaticantour.com.
