Getting around If you're confident taking public transportation and are going to be in Rome for several days, consider getting a good map (you can find them at a lot of tourist displays where they sell souvenirs) that has a good and comprehensive bus and subway map. The subways don't go anywhere near a lot of the best stuff in central Rome (around the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon) so if you want to save yourself some walking, try to take the buses when you can.

Seeing Pope on Sunday I recommend you drop off your luggage at the train station and then retirieve it after seeing the Pope on Sunday. Take a taxi from St. Peter's square to the train station. You'll save a lot of time and hassle.

major attraction best time of day to go is later in the afternoon; otherwise lines can be endless. also, there are alot of special tours that you can apply for on the internet, such as the archaeological tour at the vatican: it just requires alot of patience & perserverance.
