I woke up at 2 am covered in bed bugs. I had noticed marks on the wall -- they, I later found out, were where previous visitors had killed bugs. It was really horrible. I'd sleep on the floor of the train station before I stayed in this hostel again.

Try an apartment When we came back to Rome we stayed in an apartment. It was fantastic and only slightly more than we had paid to stay at the dump of a hotel - Fawlty Towers. Our advice is to look around and read others' reviews before booking anywhere. And beware of giving your credit card details over the Internet as then you are stuck.

Consider an apartment We stayed in an apartment the second time we visited Rome. It was only slightly more expensive and was wonderful and roomy - and very central. We could walk everywhere easily. A much much better option that staying at the dive - Hotel Fawlty Towers.

Try a B&B association Find less expensive lodging (B&B, apartment) in whichever are of Rome interests you.
