We Liked It!

Spotless throughout, rooms smallish but quite adequate since we go out all day and all evening. Thats why we go to Rome! Staff were friendly without fawning over us. Location respectable (but could perhaps have more eating places nearby but that is not the fault of the Espana, of course) and easy access to transport and the whole of Rome. Give away price and no doubt but that we would stay there again. And for the price, what more could we ask for?

This is ideal location for sight seeing in Rome. Only 15 mins walk to the Colusium and main Bus / Train station (Terminal). Restaurants all close buy and very reasonable. B & B Hotel. Breakfast is standard continental. Rooms are standard size with Shower-room & T.V's (Italian only). Staff are friendly and speak various languages. Hotel has two seperate buildings. The rooms situated next door from reception are noisy at night due to the two doors on entry and the clumping of constant keys (You will notice, trust me). Marble & Wooden floors cause people to stamp around and keep you awake until 3am. At 7am people are up again on there way to breakfast so it all starts again. If booking either stay in the main reception part of the hotel or request not to have a lower room in the alternative building. Otherwise its ideal for weekend visitors to Rome.

This was the first abroad holiday id been on and was a gift for my 21st birthday from my fiancee, a huge disappointment the staff are ignorant, the rooms are very small, its a good half an hour walk to any tourist attractions. The only good thing i could say about this hotel is that its clean and has a safe in the room thats about it!! I would strongly recommend that anyone wanted to stay at this hotel doesnt bother. Rome itself is very beautiful and the people are nice and friendly, not including the hotel staff. A lovely city very romantic would go again but hotel espana would not be our place of stay.

I took my partner as part of her 21st birtday present. After an awful flight, we headed to the hotel from the Termini station through thunder and lightning. On arrival to the Espana, we were thrilled by how clean it was and very traditional. However, the staff were quite abrupt, never asked if everything was ok, gave any advice or anything. Just asked for passports and gave us a key. The room was very small, no english channels on the tv (as stated there would be, but not a huge problem) bathroom very small. The only good thing about the room was the safe and the balcony. Room and bedding was very clean and the room was nice and quiet, room temperature was good also. The staff spoke in their own language the whole time and were quite rude. The breakfast was good fresh bread, meat, cheese and juice. However there was no welcoming for breakfast or any homely feel at all. The situation of the hotel is on a nice street, but walking to the collesseum, which is 20 minute walk is quite rough. Location of the hotel spoilt it a bit because night time we had to walk back from the centre of Rome which was scary not very well lit either, restricting us to coming home around 10PM.
Overall an ok hotel, but staff let it down, it wasnt either language barriers, just general rudeness no hello's or goodbyes or hope you have a nice stay, nothing. Wouldnt stay here again which is dissapointing.

Hotel Espana was a huge disappointment. First, let me say that we weren't looking for a 5 star hotel. We stayed at 4 different hotels during our trip, all 2 or 3 star hotels. We had exceptional service at our other hotels. It's hard to believe that any of the reviews we read could be true after our experience. The reviews were quite misleading. We didn't find the Coliseum to be close…Not that you'd want to walk there b/c that area of town near the hotel was quite shady and they failed to mention that the nearest Metro station was closed for construction for a year. We were quite uncomfortable walking in this area as we witnessed minor criminal activity. The room was the size of a closet, the smallest of all our accommodations. The bed was horrible. The bathroom was very narrow and small. We NEVER had hot water, at best lukewarm, but usually cold. The staff was not helpful or friendly. They never even said hello or goodbye as we were coming and going. Quite a different experience from our other hotels. It was “not possible” to check in one hour early. It was “not possible” to check out late as we had requested through our travel agent and was under the impression that it would not be a problem. Breakfast was adequate and is the only positive we could say about our stay here. After visiting other areas in Rome, it's not worth the price break, if we did Rome again, we would opt to stay near Spagna, where at least we felt safe walking around.

Excellent value. Location seemed a bit iffy at first but turned out to be nice and quiet, yet close to the Termini (main train station)- only 10 minute walk. Can then get Metro to most attractions. English type bars (not many!) only 10-15 min walk. Plenty of little Italian eateries nearby. And the Coliseum is a nice 15 min walk as well. Rooms very clean and tidy. Definitely recommended!

Spent three nights at this great little hotel. Rooms a bit small but had everything you need and very clean. Continental breakfast more than adequate. Close to a metro and the colluseum. Would thoroughly recommend.

When we wandered down the back streets to get to the hotel we wondered what we were in for! However hotel was excellent for the price and being off the main roads meant it was very quiet. Rooms very clean, well decorated and service was excellent. Breakfasts were adequate. Would definitely stay there again.
