The bedroom we had had no radio, no direct dial phone, the mini bar had 2 bottles of water? Also the room service advertised was none existent. The coninental breakfast for really bad, no effort was really made for their guests, sorry but this is an honest review, we wont be going back.

Room accommodations were very nice. The floors are all marble as well as the bathroom. Even though the rooms are a bit on the small side, they are clean & tidy. Our room (#104) had a view of the back arbor. I would recommend this side versus the street side, which our friends said was a bit noisy. They plan to have an elevator next year; but, now there are a lot of steps.
The breakfast room is like a little cafe. They seat you, and bring you coffee latte and rolls. It is a traditional Italian breakfast, so not much too it, but it was enough to get us going in the morning. And again the staff was so sweet and friendly, that they made you smile.
As for other's comments on the area the hotel is in. It is in the south east corner of main Rome, which can be a long walk to any of the tourist attractions, so bring good walking shoes (don't forget the public transportation and/or taxis). And it is not the most attractive area, there is lots of graffiti and run down buildings, but I never feared for my life, as others put it. (There are some charming restaurants/pizza places nearby and a grocery store.) These factors are likely why this hotel is less expensive. And as noted, the staff is great, the rooms are clean. So it is a good place for the budget minded.
I guess the best review is to say I definitely plan to book in again at the Donatello when we return to Rome!

Top Local Tips for Rome
Don't believe the fixed price offer from Ciampino There are posters at the airport saying that the fixed price to rome is 30 euros - but if you ask the drivers how much it will be, they tell you that this is the price only to the city walls. The first price we were quoted was 60 euros - coming down to 'about 45 euros' as we walked away. As it happened, our hotel was a few yards inside the city walls! Within sight of the taxi compound is a shuttle bus stop which costs 6 euros per person direct to Terminini (similar to the 8 euro Terravision service which the airlines all push).
Safety Dont' make yourself a victim by drawing attention to yourself. Try your best to be alert, even if it means less indulgence in good, inexpensive wine. Obviously, where there are tourists, there will be pickpockets. My adversary this time was fortunately not a group of professional pickpockets, but just a bunch of hoodlum adolescent boys. After a few too many glasses of chianti, I was rowdy and loud around Termini station and they distracted my fiance and grabbed my bag. Luckily they were more pranksters than theives and later abandoned my bag underneath a parked car so nothing was lost.
The Vatican City I pre-booked a tour with Rome Museums as I was told the queues are bad. Going on a Wednesday meant it was busy anyway as this is the day there is an auduence with The Pope. After making an order for six tickets and paying (almost 200 euros) I was told confirmation would be sent to the hotel. None was sent. The printed information on my order says without a voucher access is denied to the museum and they were responsible for no refunds. After arriving late at the Vatican City and assuming I would have to pay again, there was a lovely man who sorted everything out for me. He arranged a slightly later tour group and we had a great visit. There is so much to see I became blinded by it and know much went over my head. Well worth a visit for history, architecture and culture vultures.
