Excellent, very friendly and most helpful rooms spotlessly clean. Great location less than five minute to the termini. Enjoyed breakfast in the coffee place across the road.

There were a few things that it would have been nice to have differently BUT given that we chose to stay in a 2 star hotel, this one offered good value for money and was in an acceptable location for reaching all partsof the city. Close to the Termini for bus and trains ( walking only 5 minutes)! We walked everywhere we went from the hotel - and I travel in a wheel chair!! The brothers that were running the Domus Praetoria when we were there were very helpful. Rooms and bedding clean and fresh. No breakfast room or coffee making facilities on site but very close by. I would stay here again.

The Domus Praetoria is a fab little hotel that is literally minutes from where the Terravision buses drop you off, all you have to do is walk down Via Marsala and take the 3rd left and at the bottom is the hotel. The Domus Praetoria is the most safest hotel I have ever stayed in; several electronic doors and CCTV, not to mention the surrounding area even if it is in the surrounding area of the cities main railway station.

The hotel is close enough to all the main sites, although Rome is a small city of which I did not realise until I arrived, so most places are quite close, we even came across the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain TWICE!!! As for finding places to eat during the day and at night time, it is so easy, and the food is gorgeous and cheap.

One tip though for anyone going to Rome is to take an umbrella, as it is a rainy city, and once you get there street vendors sell them like they are going out of fashion!!!

But in terms of accommodation I would definately recommend the Domus Praetoria as the hotel to use, I would not go to Rome without staying here.

This is a wonderful hotel so convenient to all the tourist attractions. The staff (Massimo and Fabio) were kind and attentive to every need. Our room was comfortable and spotless. Restaurants all over the neighborhood, and we especially liked having breakfast with the locals across the street. The hotel provides a voucher for pastry and cappacino at a busy little cafe in the neighborhood. It gave us a chance to try out our Italian! The hotel is a few blocks from the train/metro station and so convenient to everything in Rome. We can't wait to visit again!

This hotel is excellent and if you read the other reviews they are very accurate. Some times I wonder when I read these reviews if I would agree with them because of different personal tastes but not in this case -they are dead on. I am glad I stayed at this hotel.

I truly enjoyed my stayed at the Hotel Domus Praetoria.

With its 16 very comfortable and warm rooms, its personal will always greet you with a smile and help you with any question you might have. It is at a great location since it is just a few steps from Termini where you can take any mode of transportation you may need but is also great because you can also walk around the beautiful streets and many interesting places located near the Hotel.

I will definitely stay again next year when I go back to Rome !

wow! wow! wow!.....what can i say!!!!!!!....i absolutely endorse everything the passed reviewers have said...and more!!. it was an absolute delight, the brothers went out of their way to make us feel really welcome, nothing was too much trouble for them. the rooms were big, and spotlessly clean and had a free wall safe. the entrance way was a bit of a surprise but really quaint, not at all what we expected, but an added bonus!. The lift was hillarious, two people.... or one person and a large suitcase was all it would take...but it was fast and efficient. the area was safe, even late at night and the coffee shop opposite filled the gap for breakfast, even if it was only coffee and a donut. if there was a downside...and nothing at all to do with the hotel,... it would be the termini, what a dump!!, the outside was crowded with vagrants, dirt, and drunks...we were surprised that the local police did not do something about it because that was the first impression we got after arriving off of the airport bus, although apart from them begging cigarettes we were not bothered by them at all....20/10 for the hotel...could'nt praise them highly enough, and would'nt hesitate to return to the brothers three!!!.

5 star service - 2 star prices

Truly an enjoyable and value for money place to stay. As mentioned by other reviewers the family members running the hotel do a first class job. The rooms are airy, spacious and neat. The location is great for getting around the city and the local market, restaurants and bars make eating out a pleasure.
Personally, I cannot praise the Domus Praetoria enough. I won't even think of staying elsewhere the next time I'm in Rome.

Stayed here during the first week of May. Paid $140 USD a night.

Located < 5-minute walk from the train station. Not the greatest of neighborhoods but with the train station so close, great for public transportation (bus, metro, train to the airport).

Located on the 3rd and 4th floors of a local residence, owned by a family, and run by three brothers who were great hosts and very friendly/helpful.

Room and bathroom were spacious, simply decorated but immaculately clean. At the time of the writing of this review, the pictures on Venere are not indicative of how nice the rooms are. AC not yet functioning (will be turned on during the 2nd week of May) but the weather was great and the room was very cool at night without the window open.

Highly recommend. Great find.

Make friends with the brothers three!

The facilities are excellent, but it's the friendly, personal and genuine care from the three brothers - who appear to have given up a personal life to be there for their guests 24/7 - which makes the stay so good.
New maps now on their website (added since we were there) make it much easier to find for the first time as it has a rather discrete presence in Via Milazzo - a quiet street no more then 7 minutes from Termini Station.
I'm an insomniac, but I slept through the early morning arrival of the street market each morning even though our room was right above it.

the friendly staff alone make this hotel a must!

we stayed here for 5 days in feb 05 and found it to be amazing price for value. as mentioned before, the staff/hosts could not possibly be any nicer-honestly, they were amazingly efficient, professional, polite and helpful! they also humored me by letting me speak the small amount of italian that i know. they REALLY added to the overall pleasantness of the hotel. the hotel room was spotless and very large large. the only thing is, we had a room without a shower (well, it had a shower head but you had to use it in the tub if you get my drift), but then again, a hot bath is nice after walking around all day. the typical italian breakfast (pastry and cappucino) was included and it was lovely-we also had market set up outside every morning (except sun) so we could grab some fruit on our way out (giant fiji apples the size of grapefruits!). as mentioned before, the location is also great-the bus, train and subway station (For both lines) is only a few minutes away. also, it is safe as well. we came back every night between 10 and 1130pm and had no problems whatsoever.

Wonderful location, perfectly clean, and the best hosts in the world!

Hotel Domus Praetoria in Rome is located near Termini Train Station. I had previously read about the train station area being seedy. Well that must be the other side, because this side of the station was nice, safe, convenient, quiet and a perfect location for a small hotel. It is operated by three brothers, Antonio, Fabio, and Massimo. They were wonderful hosts, very interested, helpful, and caring. They made recommendations for some memorable dinners, and for activities. The hotel was spotlessly clean, and new. The bathroom was large, with beautiful tiles, and had a wonderful shower. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again without a second thought.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Pick your eating/drinking places wisely Four coffees with a view of the Colosseum cost us 26 euros but at a Chinese restaurant near Termini it cost 0.9 euro per cup for same quality. Great pizza/pasta/wine dinner near Termini was 37 euro but same style meal on Via Veneto cost over 100 euro.

Walk, Out of season Great Metro system buy there are so many great things to see we advise you walk as much as possible (use map provided by hotel as it is quite detaied) You can find the most spectacular art and sculpture virtually round every corner. We found the city safe and never felt fearful or threatened. Go out of season and take a chance on the weather. Lack of crouds was a great bonus for us,

Take the Leonardo express train from the airport When you arrive in Rome Main Terminal walk along the platform to the very end of the station and turn right when you get to the end of the tracks. It's a long walk so make sure your lugage has sturdy wheels.
