Location, location, location

Stayed here May 10-13 and everything was perfect. We had a great corner room overlooking the Pantheon. Room was quite large by European standards and had a modern bath with great water pressure. Service was very pleasant, especially the bartender, Mikele. You can't be more centrally located with most sites within walking distance. Great assortment of dining and shopping alternatives within steps from the hotel. Highly recommended and will definitely return.

Great Location, Great Service

My husband and I choose this place for our honeymoon in Rome and we can not say enough about how happy we were with our choice. This hotel was a perfect location, in walking distance of everything. The service was very good and so was the breakfast. The rooms were beautiful and the view from them was great. I loved being able to look out on the Piazza at night and to hear the musicians playing. We will definitely stay here again!

Almost Perfect

Everything about this hotel is almost perfect. My bedroom and bathroom had the most fantastic view of the Pantheon. I'm still stunned that I was able to stay so close to this almost 2000 year old antiquity that was right outside my bedroom window. The room was well decorate, and I was tempted to spend one entire day in my room and admire the Pantheon from my window.

The bathroom was almost as big as my room. The staff was kind and gracious. One of the best features of this hotels is its central location. Almost every important monument in Rome is walking distance.

If you need absolute silence to sleep, I do not recommend this hotel since it does face the Piazza. I did not mind the noise at all because I felt it contributed to the character of the area.

I heartily recommend this hotel and plan to return on my next trip to Rome.

Great location and a fine room

We spent a week here in April 2004 and were happy with the hotel. The desk people were pleasant and helpful, and we never had any trouble with the service. The location is wonderful, overlooking the Pantheon, although be warned that this square is busy with people day and night. I would certainly prefer this location to the area around the Spanish Steps; it is far more central. Our room was large enough for two adults with room to spare, and the buffet breakfasts were good, so much so that we never wanted any lunch. If we should return to Rome, we would choose the Senato again.

did not like the Albergo del Senato

The Albergo del Senato is very centrally located, but that is about the only thing going for it. My room was extremely small. The service was also not very good. The maid did not replenish my bathroom items every morning. My husband had to run down in the morning while I was trying to get ready to get some soap, shampoo, etc. The men at the front desk seemed to always be preoccupied with something else to speak to us whenever we had any questions, and were generally not very helpful. The breakfast was just okay. Be warned...the "orange juice" they served for breakfast was actually Tang! I will not be staying at this hotel again and will not recommend it to anyone!

Word About the Senior Suites

This is our second stay at the del Senato.
and while I would definitely stay here again, I would like to clarify for others what is the Senior Suite.
I wanted a room with a terrace overlooking the Pantheon. The only two rooms with a private terrace available are these suites.
The hotel has two of these suites. Each suite has two rooms and one bathroom per suite.
One suite has two twin beds in one room, and a "queen" in the other.The other suite has two queen beds.
I was traveling with 3 teens, so I booked the one with twin and queen beds.
My son and his friend had the lovely twin bed room, with the access to both terrace and bathroom.My daughter and I shared the room with the queen bed. This was where disapointment came into the picture.
This room was very very tiny, even by Italy hotel standards.
Infact, until we moved a small table we were unable to close the door to the room.
The room has no closet, and only one small bedside stand for clothing. The most disappointing was the queen bed turned out to be a double sized pull out couch! with the accompanying thin matress and two very lumpy pillows. This suite is NOT the one shown on their website.
Would I rent that suite again? I am not sure.
The terrace almost makes it worth it. Afterall, the view of the Pantheon is exquisite!
but if one wishes to stay in it, keep in mind the bathroom is only accessible from the other bedroom, and the "queen " bed is not that at all.
This specific suite is a bit cramped for 4 "adults" .
Other than that, the staff at the hotel remain as friendly and helpful as always.

Spending hours doing research on hotels definitely paid off. This hotel was absolutely wonderful in every way. The staff was very friendly & helpful. I'm a big breakfast person & there was a wide variety of fruits, juices, breads, ham, cheese,etc. every morning. Our bathroom & rooms were spotless. This location could'nt have been better. We walked everywhere we went except to the Vatican. I awoke in the mornings looking out over the Pantheon. This was our first trip to Italy & we can't wait to go back someday & stay here again!

Would never stay anywhere else

Satisfying in every way. Front desk staff helpful, courteous; rooms very spacious, and perfect location literally steps away from the Pantheon. I will never stay anywhere else in Rome---no point in even looking.

stayed at the albergo del senato in feb. 2004. I do not think there is a better location in rome. trevi fountain- 10 minute walk. spanish steps - 15 minutes. villa borghese - 20 minute walk. pantheon - 30 second walk. what more can one say. if you want to be in the heart of rome, this is the place. we stayed in a suite with a balcony overlooking the pantheon and piazza rotundo. it really doesent get any better than this. the staff was very proffesional and extremely helpful and the breakfasts are truly wonderful. piazza navona is a 5 minute walk and the best cheese shop in rome is directly across the square.
fortunatos restuarant is a 3 minute walk. it is not to be missed. this is a truly wonderful hotel.

I stayed here for 4 nights with a friend in mid January 2004 based on a personal recommendation as well as the high reviews here, even though we could have booked a 4-star hotel in the same area for 70 EUR per night less. We were very happy with our choice; this place should definitely be 4-star. The hotel is classy, and is in a perfect location literally next to the Pantheon and a 15-20 minute walk to anything you ll want to see in Roma. It s worth having a drink (or two) at one of the many café s on the piazza north of the Pantheon (overpriced tourist traps but the view is worth it), but for dinner, ask the friendly staff for a personal recommendation at a place on one of the narrow streets off the beaten path. The only negative was the near-rack rate we paid for the room (220 EUR for a double). If you can get this place for anywhere close to 150 EUR it would be an absolute steal. Also remember that it is on a piazza and subject to pedestrian and vehicular noise well into the early morning hours. This wasn t a problem for us in January (with the windows closed) but in spring/fall, light sleepers might have an issue. At any rate, I would definitely stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Ditch the guidebook It may seem obvious, but we went to a pizzeria (da baffetto) i think mentioned in the guidebooks and even on a tuesday night in march there was a queue of tourists outside. Head round the corner and pick one of the other restaurants nearby. we went to taverna parione on via di parione near piazza navona which was great.

Use the limo service Most hotels in Rome (including this one) will have a limo service that can pick you up from the airport and take you to the hotel or vice versa - use it. It will only be fractionally more expensive (in my case 50euro) than the combined cost of train into the central station (Termini) and the taxi on from there (around 40euro including taxi).

Winter - Down Season The winter is a great time to visit Italy, the weather is great and there are not as many tourist.
