I have just returned from this hotel where I stayed with my mother on a 3 night break in Rome. This hotel is a real gem and in an ideal location for exploring all the sights of Rome. The rooms are clean, spacious and with lovely decor. The staff just can't do enough to help and we had a wonderful break at the Hotel Dei Mellini. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome and would stay again without hesitation!!!!

The Hotel Dei Mellini was the one of the best seven hotels I have stayed in on my honeymoon trip. I have enjoy a warm welcome from the friendly staff when I arrived it has nice and clean rooms. It was in a quiet area but it has good position which made visiting most of Rome site easy for us. In the end I can say that on my next visit to Rome the Dei Mellini Hotel will be the place am going to stay in. :)

Fantastic Vacation

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just got back from a an exciting trip to Rome. One of the best parts was coming back to the hotel after a long day of sight seeing to a great bed, quite street and air conditioning. The staff over all was helpfull but Fabio the Bar manager went above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The breakfast was very nice but make sure you get down stairs before ten or there may be a shortage of rolls but who really cares about rolls when there are so many excellent reasturants near by. The location was also perfect ten minutes on foot to spanish steps and on a very quite and safe street. Would definetly go there again. TOP NOTCH

BEAUTIFUL Hotel Dei Mellini

from chrism125
Just spent the long Labor Day weekend at the Hotel Dei Mellini in Rome... what a wonderful surprise! Lovely staff, beautiful room, yummy breakfast... all w/in easy walking distance to all of the best in Rome. The front desk's restaurant recommendations were superb: Ciro for the best pizza my husband and I have EVER had, and Gusto/Osterria for a more formal dinner. Each were English-speaker friendly, but not packed w/obnoxious tourists. Nearby Vito's Pub and Wine Bar served as our nightly haunt before retiring to the comfy bed in our elegantly appointed, high-ceilinged hotel room. Thanks to the Dei Mellini for a truly memorable Roman experience...!

NOTE: do NOT use the MapQuest link to locate this hotel, as it shows the Dei Mellini on the OTHER side of the Tiber... a very frustrating revelation after an hour + of fruitless search with bags in tow. The good news: cab stands appear readily available near every obelisk!

Great Hotel in Rome

The Hotel dei Mellini is a great hotel, located between Vatican City and the Spanish Steps. We were automatically upgraded to a suite upon arrival (for no apparent reason). Staff was helpful, and gave a couple excellent restaurant suggestions. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

Spacious rooms, good location

from FKH
We (2 adults & 2 children) stayed there 1st week of Aug 04. They didn't have a quad room & accomodated us in 2 rooms. One quite large & the other reasonable. Got good rates through their web site. Nice decor befitting a 4 star. Disappointed that they did not have high speed Internet access. It was nice that breakfast closed late at 11am. A toaster would have been nice. Location - fairly central, though we took a lot of taxis as it was very hot. Restaurants and deli nearby. Friendly staff.

Great Hotel, Ok Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Great room and lobby. Best breakfast we had in Italy. The service was very good and the staff accomodating. Very good value for the money.

Only hesitation is the location which while not far from most tourist sites is not really in the center of any of the places you will likely spend time.

Almost perfect

My wife and I had a great weeks holiday here in July. The Mellini really is top notch in terms of service, cleanliness, decoration, style, food and location. The only downside we experienced was the size of our room - it was tiny! I think the present owners aquired the building and upgraded it and they have done so to an exceptional standard, but the one thing they could not upgrade was the size of many of the rooms. Some other reviewers seem to have got sizeable rooms, so make sure you know what you are getting before you book.

The Mellini is really close to all the main sites and the main restaurant and cafe locations, but I would recommend that you do not neglect the deli in the same street (which does fantastic non-touristy lunches and sells great prossuco for 4 euros a bottle) nor the cafe/bar across the road from the end of the street as it stay open late and does great cocktails.

The other thing not to miss is the rooftop sun-deck as it is the best way to spend an afternoon after a mornings exploring. As well as tables and chairs it also has recliners and even a shower to cool off. Bliss.

do your self a favour

I spent months researching Hotels in Rome, to celebrate our 23d Aniversary .There are so many things to take into consideration...Price,location,quality ratings, other people,s reviews etc,etc..After changing my mind so many times I finally opted for the Dei Mellini.
I have just returned home to-day,and had to get on to write my verdict....I GOT IT SO RIGHT!!!..
I travel widely with my job,and this Hotel is the best I have stayed in...The Managemet have got it all off to a tee...Quality matters....The beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on (my wife went on about how FANTATIC the LINEN BED SHEETS were)......The Bathroom was large ultra-modern,immaculate, my wife could have lived in it, (more brownie points!!).
Location was ideal, close to all attractions ,walking at a very leasurely pace 15 minutes Spanish Steps,20 minutes Vatican..Taxis are plentiful and very reasonable3-4 euros to Sanish Steps,5 euro to Vatican .Hotel ordered me a Taxi for our trip to Airport 45 euro.. Quality of Buffet breakfast is top notch..Emplyees are all very well mannered and eager to help.
So to help all you people out there..Ive done all the donkey work for you...Book this Hotel you won't be disappointed..great deals if you contact them direct...What a city...what a Hotel..

Home sweet home Hotel Dei Mellini

from newtoraleigh
We highly recommend this hotel. We followed the advice of others from trip advisor and found this hotel to be everything that was promised and more.
It's in a great location central to all of the main sites (the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps) and easily accessible to a bus if you want to visit the colliseum. We took the bus there and walked back and it was very enjoyable.
We had wonderful beds to sleep in which were very comfortable and didn't hurt my back. That was very important to me!
The breakfast offers excellent food and an excellent wait staff. We had a two room suite with two marble bathrooms. They were impeccably clean.
The hotel is down the street from the Police station, and the area is quiet and safe.
The staff is very helpful and polite. My son left one of our packages on the front steps. We called from the mercedes they had arranged for us to take to the airport (only 50 euros). The hotel retrieved the package from outside the building and sent it to us in Denver. We had it within 5 days of our return.
We would definitely stay at the Hotel Dei Mellini the next time we are in Rome.

Superior hotel indeed!

I wanted a nice hotel to cap off the holiday of a lifetime - and found it at Dei Mellini! Lovely rooms, very helpful staff, delicious breakfast, and well located. I've nothing to compare it with, but would think it's well enough away from the crowds while being fairly central. Air conditioning works well also! Superior hotel indeed.

This was our first trip to Rome so my husband and I researched the web and TripAdvisor for advice.
We only had a long weekend stay in Rome and knew we wanted to see as much as possible and would be walking most of the time. The Dei Mellini (which we found on Expedia) was the perfect choice for us. The location of the hotel gives you access to just about anything you might need: bus, restaurants (ask for directions to the Osteria/Gustos), pharmacy, pizzeria, etc. but you are not right in the hustle and bustle of the nighttime activities. We walked back to the hotel after midnight a couple of times and felt safe. The staff gave us a great map and will help in any way. Our very clean room was on the 6th floor and the bedroom window opened to the courtyard below, which we kept open all night because the weather was so pleasant without being disturbed by traffic whatsoever. Terrific bed, beautiful new bathroom and not cramped at all. We felt we had plenty of space. Very clean. There is a great view from the terrace which was off the 6th floor but it does close about 10pm. The breakfast buffet was a delight and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive.
We just happened to arrive at the airport as President Bush was arriving at the Vatican so we took a taxi because this would be the fastest. (Use only the white taxis, they are regulated.) It turned out to be the best choice and we would advise asking the front desk to arrange for a taxi or limo (which turned out to be just a nice large car) for your return trip to the airport, about 50 Eruos and 30 minutes. Beautiful city and beautiful hotel!!

Top Local Tips for Rome

Beware of the Airport Gypsy Cabs... Being from New York City I should've realized that the standard practice of fare-hiking of cabs is the same the world over. When you arrive into Rome, there are a bunch of cab drivers (although their cabs are Mercedes) waiting around asking if you need a ride. Since we were new to Rome, we just made it easy on ourselves and took one of their offers. BIG MISTAKE!!! We paid 75 euros for the ride. However, it was not more than 40 back to the airport when we left. Do yourself a favor and work out a pick-up with your hotel if they offer it. At the very least, be smarter than we were.

Colosseum / Palatine Hill Visit the Forum and buy tickets for entry into the Palatine the ticket also allows you to enter the Colosseum, therefore when you leave the Palatine you jump the lines into the Colosseum.

meet the pope Wednesday when in town
