Fantastic Vacation
from A TripAdvisor MemberBEAUTIFUL Hotel Dei Mellini
from chrism125NOTE: do NOT use the MapQuest link to locate this hotel, as it shows the Dei Mellini on the OTHER side of the Tiber... a very frustrating revelation after an hour + of fruitless search with bags in tow. The good news: cab stands appear readily available near every obelisk!
Great Hotel in Rome
from A TripAdvisor MemberSpacious rooms, good location
from FKHGreat Hotel, Ok Location
from A TripAdvisor MemberOnly hesitation is the location which while not far from most tourist sites is not really in the center of any of the places you will likely spend time.
Almost perfect
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe Mellini is really close to all the main sites and the main restaurant and cafe locations, but I would recommend that you do not neglect the deli in the same street (which does fantastic non-touristy lunches and sells great prossuco for 4 euros a bottle) nor the cafe/bar across the road from the end of the street as it stay open late and does great cocktails.
The other thing not to miss is the rooftop sun-deck as it is the best way to spend an afternoon after a mornings exploring. As well as tables and chairs it also has recliners and even a shower to cool off. Bliss.
Enjoy!
do your self a favour
from SCOTSMANI have just returned home to-day,and had to get on to write my verdict....I GOT IT SO RIGHT!!!..
I travel widely with my job,and this Hotel is the best I have stayed in...The Managemet have got it all off to a tee...Quality matters....The beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on (my wife went on about how FANTATIC the LINEN BED SHEETS were)......The Bathroom was large ultra-modern,immaculate, my wife could have lived in it, (more brownie points!!).
Location was ideal, close to all attractions ,walking at a very leasurely pace 15 minutes Spanish Steps,20 minutes Vatican..Taxis are plentiful and very reasonable3-4 euros to Sanish Steps,5 euro to Vatican .Hotel ordered me a Taxi for our trip to Airport 45 euro.. Quality of Buffet breakfast is top notch..Emplyees are all very well mannered and eager to help.
So to help all you people out there..Ive done all the donkey work for you...Book this Hotel you won't be disappointed..great deals if you contact them direct...What a city...what a Hotel..
Home sweet home Hotel Dei Mellini
from newtoraleighIt's in a great location central to all of the main sites (the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Spanish Steps) and easily accessible to a bus if you want to visit the colliseum. We took the bus there and walked back and it was very enjoyable.
We had wonderful beds to sleep in which were very comfortable and didn't hurt my back. That was very important to me!
The breakfast offers excellent food and an excellent wait staff. We had a two room suite with two marble bathrooms. They were impeccably clean.
The hotel is down the street from the Police station, and the area is quiet and safe.
The staff is very helpful and polite. My son left one of our packages on the front steps. We called from the mercedes they had arranged for us to take to the airport (only 50 euros). The hotel retrieved the package from outside the building and sent it to us in Denver. We had it within 5 days of our return.
We would definitely stay at the Hotel Dei Mellini the next time we are in Rome.
Superior hotel indeed!
from A TripAdvisor MemberYour search is over!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe only had a long weekend stay in Rome and knew we wanted to see as much as possible and would be walking most of the time. The Dei Mellini (which we found on Expedia) was the perfect choice for us. The location of the hotel gives you access to just about anything you might need: bus, restaurants (ask for directions to the Osteria/Gustos), pharmacy, pizzeria, etc. but you are not right in the hustle and bustle of the nighttime activities. We walked back to the hotel after midnight a couple of times and felt safe. The staff gave us a great map and will help in any way. Our very clean room was on the 6th floor and the bedroom window opened to the courtyard below, which we kept open all night because the weather was so pleasant without being disturbed by traffic whatsoever. Terrific bed, beautiful new bathroom and not cramped at all. We felt we had plenty of space. Very clean. There is a great view from the terrace which was off the 6th floor but it does close about 10pm. The breakfast buffet was a delight and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive.
We just happened to arrive at the airport as President Bush was arriving at the Vatican so we took a taxi because this would be the fastest. (Use only the white taxis, they are regulated.) It turned out to be the best choice and we would advise asking the front desk to arrange for a taxi or limo (which turned out to be just a nice large car) for your return trip to the airport, about 50 Eruos and 30 minutes. Beautiful city and beautiful hotel!!
Top Local Tips for Rome
Beware of the Airport Gypsy Cabs... Being from New York City I should've realized that the standard practice of fare-hiking of cabs is the same the world over. When you arrive into Rome, there are a bunch of cab drivers (although their cabs are Mercedes) waiting around asking if you need a ride. Since we were new to Rome, we just made it easy on ourselves and took one of their offers. BIG MISTAKE!!! We paid 75 euros for the ride. However, it was not more than 40 back to the airport when we left. Do yourself a favor and work out a pick-up with your hotel if they offer it. At the very least, be smarter than we were.
Colosseum / Palatine Hill Visit the Forum and buy tickets for entry into the Palatine the ticket also allows you to enter the Colosseum, therefore when you leave the Palatine you jump the lines into the Colosseum.
meet the pope Wednesday when in town
