| Below average for a 4-star hotel |
| The hotel is located very close to the Vatican City. We were fortunate enough to book our stay early and secured a room for 4 nights during the week of the Pope's funeral. The nearest train station is San Pietro but from here, you'd definitely need a taxi. We thought it would be a 30 mins walk max, but it took us more than an hour. Plus, the roads leading to the hotel had no pavements so it's very dangerous. The only public transport which stops outside the hotel are two buses and neither of them stop at San Pietro. My advice is to catch a bus from Via Paola. The hotel is not the easiest to reach. The reception staff gave a below average standard of service for a 4-star hotel. Our return flight was cancelled due to air space being unavailable. We asked the staff if they could find out any information for us but they referred me to the airline's website. I had to pay 5 EURO for 30 mins internet access which is very very expensive. The staff were also not helpful about transport links to the city centre and offered minimal information. I was very disappointed with the level of service. Our room was a king-size room. It was reasonably clean but I noticed peeling paint in one corner of the room. We also had a balcony which wasn't anything special. The bathroom was reasonably clean but small. Our fridge door was slightly broken but not too serious. For a discerning guest, this would probably have been an acceptable room. We also dined in the restaurant. The service was nothing special. I asked the waitress what she recommended and she didn't seem to understand my English. I ordered the lamb and it was nice but the portion was small. The cost of the meal was also high compared to outside. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're tired and you don't want to venture out. The location of the hotel is far from the city centre and it takes ~ 30 mins bus journey to get to Piazza Venezia (the centre). The hotel runs a shuttle service to Piazza Venezia but there are only 2 services to and fro!!! There are no shuttle buses to any airports. Overall, disappointing for a 4-star hotel and the Crowne Plaza chain. |
