It was away from the rustle of things, with transportation close by and not in the center of all the commotion. It was a quiet getaway and a pleasurable experience. Kind of pricey for the hotel though.

Top Local Tips for Rome

sightseeing When you visit the vatican sign up to one of the guided tours. They are expensive ( 25 euros each ) but well worth it. Our guide worked for eden walks and was highly knowledgable and entertaining. You also get to jump the queues which are massive to get inot st peters basilica.

Middle of June Rome is completely chaotic with, it seems, no organisation of trips/tours especially on the open top buses. Just go with an open mind and be ready for anything. Rome citizens are not the friendliest in the world!!

Ostia Antica Go there..!! It's about 20 miles out of town but the ancient Roman Port is well worth a visit, you can wander (pretty much) free on the site without the usual ancient monument restrictions. You'll need at least half a day, more if you stay for lunch. Buy a guide book when you get there and it will enrich the visit which is already good value. The good thing is, it's on the train line out of Piramide station and a normal Metro ticket will cover the journey. To make a full day of it, If the weather's half decent take the train for a couple more stops and visit the beach at Lido Centro.
