My first hotel in Italy....I was happy to find a simple and clean room waiting for me at this hotel. It's an energetic hike to the Vatican area but very do-able and one learns a lot on foot. Charmingly noisy outside the hotel at night but normal for the happy Italian neighbors. The quaint and historic area with good neighborhood restaurants made up for the modest room. I would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Cisterna in Trastevere, Italy in October, 2005. Although upon arriving, was a little disappointed. After getting our bearings in Trastevere on our first trip to Italy, we decided the Cisterna was very appropo for the village like surroundings. It was comfortable, clean and very inexpensive. We had a small but adequate breakfast each day which was included. We loved Trastevere! It was so medieval and intimate with the cobblestone narrow streets and the lovely piazza Santa Maria. The church is beautiful and the area is lined with many cafes and markets to the delight of the tourists. If lucky enough to come back some day, would stay at the Cisterna again.

I stayed at hotel Cisterna in Trastevere, Rome, with my sisters in June 2004. The location is perfect, as you find a lot of restaurants and bars in the area and it's not far to walk to the historical sites in the city. The rooms are a bit dark, but if you can get a room with a terrace (they have a few) it's really nice. Nice clean, though small, bath rooms. The price is quite good for Rome. We paid 135 euro for double rooms, some of them were actually triples.(of course it's too much for room of that standard, but again, that's Rome). Italian breakfast, which isn't too much. Good coffee. Nice staff, seemed to be a family business, but they didn't speak much english. I wouldn't mind staying there again, but this year I have rented a large flat in the same area, for the same price.
