Historical Traveller Reviews of Boscolo Grand Hotel Palace

**Not** a four-star hotel

from reviewer-intl
The pictures of the Boscolo palace are indeed impressive, but the hotel itself does not live up to any expectations a customer might have of a four-star hotel. Here are a few of the reasons why:

1. The rooms have very obvious wear and tear that might be charateristic of 2 or 3-star hotels.
2. The restaurant had been closed for renovation, but there was no notice of it anywhere.
3. Since the restaurant was closed, we decided to order room service, but were told that they only had tomato sauce left, and hence, there was no room service available.
4. The daily room service (cleaning services) is inconsistent and somewhat careless. Overall, the service in the hotel was friendly, but sloppy considering it was a 4-star hotel (e.g., wrong keys given, had to request the correct keys).

The location is good (a five-minute walk away from the Barberini metro stop, about 15 minutes away from the Fontana di Trevi).

Great hotel, Great location!

We just returned from a wonderful 5 nights in Roma! We stayed at the Palace and had a wonderful stay. We checked in on a Tuesday~ the staff was very efficient, quick and knowledgable. We received a nice large room with a terrace and a great view of Via Veneto. The hotel is located near the Trevi Fountain and close to the Spanish Steps. To get to the other sites in Roma, it's a bit of a walk. If you like to walk everywhere then don't worry. We read some reviews below about the staff not being friendly or quick~ but we did NOT find that to be the case. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms are large- you can tell that the bathrooms are older, but as long as everything is clean, I'm happy. I would definately recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Great Price

My husband and I stayed four nights in September 2004 at the Grand Palace. The wonderful location was the primary reason for our decision to stay there, but also the price. Very reasonable compared to other hotels in this area. The hotel was lovely and the staff very helpful. There are several wonderful little restaurants just behind the Via Veneto that serve wonderful food with great atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grand Palace and hope to stay there again when we return to Italy

When in Rome

Stayed at the Boscolo Palace in February 2004 - a very special gift and first visit to Rome with my partner. This hotel is extremely nice, situated on the via veneto - lots of shops and places to eat and within good walking distance to some of the major tourist areas, particluarly Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. The rooms are average, but nice - the bar, restaurant and pool and spa make up for this. The decor is gorgeous in this hotel! The staff are friendly and helpful, although checking in and out you can expect delays, other than this I would recommend staying here as a base to this lovely city.

Great Hotel

This conveniently located and lovely hotel on the Via Veneto (across the street from the American Embassy) is distinguished by its extremely helpful, friendly, and professional front desk staff. They offered suggestions for restaurants, printed out the Italian equivalent of Mapquest directions, and were immensely patient and amused with our efforts always to speak Italian. Our room, on which we got a great rate through a package on, was elegant and large. Highly recommended!

Great Hotel

Just returned from the palace hotel following a brilliant 4 day stop over in Rome. Booked the hotel three days before going so we were taking a bit of a gamble. However thought the hotel was great. We had a deluxe double room which was very spacious. The aircon worked well and the bathroom was also spacious. Never ate in the hotel restuarant which looked very quiet.

Location wise it was well placed with the Vatican only a 15 - 20 min walk away and the Hardrock Cafe next door!!(happy hour Mon to Fri 4pm to 7pm)

Although the hotel was great I don't think its worth the full room rate they quote. The 3 nights cost us £300 for the room, so make sure you get a deal.

Great for small groups

We booked on the Internet at a good price. I was not happy with the first room (scuffed walls and a little shabby). The staff graciously moved us at no extra charge to a larger room with a clean white marble bathroom, gilded velvet-upholstered furniture, and an incredibly squeeky but charming wood floor. It was still slightly past its prime, but I loved it.

We had other friends in town, so the beautiful couches in the huge bar/lounge area served as our living room for 4 days. This was the best part of this hotel, for me. Not just a lobby, but a place to relax.

The location was good, though the nearby restaurants were tourist class. I would happily stay here again.

Watch your pocketbook at this one!

The physical aspects of the hotel were wonderful. However, the rudeness and conniving of the staff made the stay lesss than enjoyable. No service was ever provided without an inflated cost. For example, we tried to buy a stamp at the front desk. A stamp costs .65 Euro but they wanted to charge 1 Euro to cover the "cost of their staff purchasing it". There was no conceierge as was in their information. Also, as we checked out, our room price had mysteriously increased by 50 Euro. If you stay here, be sure to check EVERY price quoted and charged. They continually looked for ways to overcharge, usually requesting the fee in cash. BUYER BEWARE at this hotel.

Well worth the research

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hotel Palace for 4 nights in October 2003. After researching for days and days and finding the "perfect hotel", I would find a terrible review and cancel my reservation and start searching again. I stumbled across the Grand and from all accounts looked lovely, despite a few negative reviews. To say the least, I was anxious. However, my fears were put aside when we reached the hotel lobby. First let me say that it is beautiful. Second, the staff was wonderful, from check in to check out. Third, the rooms were as described and in keeping with most hotels in Europe, small, but clean. I requested a room with a balcony through and then spoke directly with the hotel who told me the same thing, if one is available, you can have it! Well, luckily for me there was one. The view was great and the terrace was large, we hung out there every morning and night. The breakfast was a buffet with fresh fruits, granola, etc., it was plentiful, very good, and we were well tended to. The location was fantastic, we walked everywhere, and rented scooters if we needed to go further, (I highly recommend this). This was my first time to Rome, and I would definetly go back to this hotel because I truly enjoyed my stay!

Great Hotel++ Excellent Location!!

We stayed here 18/03/2004 and found the hotel great. Its also called Palace - A Boscolo First Class Hotel. The hotel has high ceilings including the rooms. The room was small but confortable, both the room and bathroom were very clean. As a bonus we had a balcony.

Bar played live music in the evening every day we were there.. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The location was the best right on Via Vittorio Veneto we walked every where from here..

One downside is that as it is an old listed building it does not have any air conditioning.. so we found it hot at night.. The summer months could be uncomfortable..
