Centrally located, large rooms and very clean

We stayed at the Best Western Mondial in late August and again on September 4, 2005. The rooms were large, the continental breakfast was okay and the air conditioner worked just fine. The hotel was kind enough to arrange a shuttle to and from the airport. The hotel is located close to Termini station (approximately three blocks) and pretty close to most attractions. I found the grumpy old men on the afternoon and night shift to be very unpleasant. They refused to allow my Italian friend to come up to my room for even 15 minutes while we awaited the arrival of a group of American friends to join us for dinner. They were like grumpy police men standing guard delegating who and who was not allowed in the guests' rooms. How absurd! This sort of thing does not happen in the U.S. (thank God!). Also, upon check out on September 5, the front desk clerk attempted to charge my friends and me a higher rate than quoted. We all heard a different rate upon check in but it changed upon check out. We are in the process of disputing it with our credit card companies. The Mondial was okay because of its location but I will probably not stay at this hotel again due to the poor customer service.

I have never been treated more horribly in ANY other hotel on any other continent than here. Our travel agent made a mistake on the room booking, and these people would not do a thing for us. I would have walked out if I could have cancelled the room for that night.

good and steady

Stayed at the hotel because it was a Best Western and from these reviews. Very pleased. Hotel arranged for a driver to pick us up at the airport-he was great and worth the cost.
Great mattresses, easy location for sightseeing & getting to train station. Very clean~
Would readily recommend it, but Americans should recognize that these hotels are NOT the same as US style hotels.

I had the opportunity to stay in the Best Western Mondial on a number of occasions.I was very pleased with the accomodations, friendly hotel staff as well as the excellent service.This hotel is beautifully furnished, and very comfortable with a fabulous location. You are close to Via Nazionale with lots of shopping as well as a nice good walk to some of the famous Roman sights, the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.
You are also close to the train station, buse station as well as the subway. The rooms are very comfortable and the buffet breakfast is delicious. The hotel staff is available to help you with directions to places in Rome to visit. I travel to Rome every year and this is my favourite hotel.

Better than expected

We stayed at the Mondial for 7 nights. The room was very comfortable, with high ceiling, clean (white) bed spread, large closet, safe, king size bed.
The bathroom was modern, well kept and clean with hair dryer.
We were a bit concerned having read many reviews of various hotels in Rome, but were pleasantly surprised with the Mondial.
The location is excellent, close enough to the Termini, subway and buses.
We used taxis only for one day after which we either walked or used public transport.
The hotel is located on a side street just off the Nazionale so it is not as noisy as some other hotel locations. Also, the windows are sound proof.
The staff was very helpful and the free access to the internet was a real bonus.
I would definitly recommend this hotel and would stay at it again.

nice, but over-priced

When in Rome.....

I would never dream of paying a five star rate for a 3-plus hotel except when I wanted to do Rome with ease. The Mondial does fill that bill. It is nice enough and I did love crawling into the lovely bath after a long day on my feet.

The location is good all around. Close to the terminal and the Metro. And close enough if one wants to hoof it around Rome.

A big plus is that it's recently been made sound-proof, so we could close the windows, turn up the air-co and sleep like babies.

My 'average' rating is mainly based on the price and the little problems one can encounter in Rome like 'accidental' over charges, such as being asked to pay for a three bed room when the room was two beds and a cot. But that little hiccup gets taken care of easily at the front desk if it's pointed out.

If you are looking for a clean hotel, in a convenient location (even it in piazza navona area), this is a good choice. The rooms are ok (not big) and so is the bathroom. Good and filling buffet breakfast.

In Spain this hotel would be more a 3* but for Italy and specially Rome, it is not bad

Absolutely Fine - A Good Hotel

I travelled to Rome with my mother & 12 year old son & needed a hotel that I could trust to be good. After much research I chose the Mondial & it did not disappoint. Very good central location, close to everything, Clean & comfprtables rooms and very adequate breakfast. Very friendly & helpful staff. I have nothing to complain about.
Rome was also fantastic but BEWARE my mother had her handbag slashed and another traveller we met had passport & wallet stolen.

This is the perfect place to stay. Laura at Reception is the fifth star!!!
We lost our crdeit cards, and the hotel Staff blocked them for us.

Clean, Convenient, and Friendly

After a horrible night in a 3 star hotel, my two sisters and I moved over to the Mondial. The staff was very helpful and gave us a decent last minute rate for a triple room. They let us check in early and provided tourist information and restaurant recommendations. We walked all over the city from this hotel and found the location convenient for a big city like Rome. Star ratings in southern Europe are somewhat different than ratings everywhere else, so we were pleased with the package. The free internet access was great, the breakfast was nice, and the room was fine. Our beds were comfortable and the bathroom was decent. We would definitely stay there again as we had a magnificant holiday in Rome!

Top Local Tips for Rome

Take the bus Take those city buses that you pay one fare for the whole day and can get trough all Rome. They are not expensive and they stop in every nice tourist site, you never wait too long for the next one! Buses are new, staff is nice and the view is amazing, specially if you see from the top. Since Rome does not have a very good subway line, that´s the best way to go to tourist spots easily.

Sightseeing in Rome You will do well to read up about the City before you arrive. Plan your sightseeing in advance. Even if you plan to spend a week in Rome, there will be sites you will miss. You will therefore need to be sure of what you want to do! Include at least one guided tour in your itinerary (recommend Classical Rome). Do not miss the Vatican Museum (only way to see the Sistine!), The Colosseum (set aside a whole day to finish the colosseum, and walk through the Imperial Forum). Excellent photo opportunities in the Forum and Campidoglio!

Public transport / Water The public transport is frequent and runs late (they also have night buses just like London). There is a train that runs direct from Leonardo De Vinci airport to Stazione Termini. Some buses are "bone shakers", in some areas they dont have proper roads (mainly in the tourist areas), they are cobbled roads!!. Remember to purchase your bus tickets before you get on the bus, they can be purchased from tobacco stores and tourist shops for €1, once validated the ticket is valid for 75mins (you validate the ticket on machines on the bus). Their metro system is fantastic, very much like the London Underground except that the Italians have mastered how to keep underground trains cool - all are air conditioned! (Londoners will understand what I mean). So if it a particularly hot day - use the metro to cool off and get around. Another great thing is on many street corners and tourist areas there are water fountains all spouting clean drinking water, so no need to spend lots on bottled water
