Very good for the price

Very clean hotel, a bit old, but in good condition. No data port in room, but a wireless internet connection is available in the sitting rooms off the lobby.

The location was not that great, a bit of a walk to see sights, but that explains the low price. Very close to the rail station, one could walk if they wanted to. Never felt unsafe in the neighborhood, although I did see a man shouting in Italian at someone running away from him very quickly and assumed that he had been robbed. Again though, as long as you are careful with luggage and money, I don't think the neighborhood is a danger. Also, not too many good restaurants in the area, but to be expected.

Oh yes, hotel staff was friendly, about what one would expect from this class of a hotel. When I asked for a restaurant recommendation, was given a card such that the hotel would get a referral and presumably a kick-back for sending me to this particular establishment. This was a turn-off to me, as I would prefer a personal recommendation from hotel staff.

Again, hotel was clean and if you don't mind the neighborhood, it is a good price.

Amazing Hotel

Having stayed at 5 different 3 star hotels in Europe in two weeks' time, we can confidently report that this hotel is leaps and bounds above others in it's category. The staff is knowledgeable and kind, the rooms clean and fancy by 3 star standards, and the breakfasts were fantastic. So much food, and so much variety. We never ate lunch. The location is great, as you can hop on the metro in less than a block. Nothing negative to say. Thanks to tripadvisor for directing us to the Hotel Canada.

I was worried on my trip to Rome because I was concerned that Roman Hotels would not be "up to par." I could not have been more delightfully surprised. This Hotel is quaint, super clean, and the staff is so friendly. Even my impeccable and hard to impress mother was so happy. We had a room with one queen and a twin and it fit all three of us marvelously. It was a short walk from the Termini so it was in a perfect location for local travel and day trips. I highly reccommend this hotel, even if you are discriminating consumer. Keep in mind, this isn't the Ritz; but its as clean, the staff is much nicer and I enjoyed it equally. Have fun!

Best Western Canada Rome---everything they say is true

Yes, this hotel is deserving of all the rave reviews. I stayed for a Saturday night the first week of July, in a double priced at 130 Euros/night. The room was spacious, bathroom was clean with a bath, firm mattress (not as common as I expected in Italy), nice breakfast (I've had better coffee elsewhere in Italy, I must admit---overall the selection is quite good, quality decent but certainly not "to-die-for" as some other reviewers noted), friendly and helpful staff for the most part (with the exception of one fiftyish non-Italian desk clerk with a bit of a superiority complex). The blue line subway is only minutes away, Termini a 5-10 minute walk, and the neighborhood is quiet. I was scratching my head as to how this hotel rated three stars when the Universo on the other side of the tracks, which is highly mediocre and expensive, rates four. Highly recommended for the price, although if you're a first-time visitor to Rome and want to be closer to the tourist action, this may not be the first option for you.

Big thanks to all the previous reviewers who steered me to the Hotel Canada! It was all you said it was and more. The great location near the Termini but on a quiet street was wonderful. The lobby is very charming and the breakfast buffet is truly special. Our room for three people was very spacious and elegantly decorated. It really is a four star hotel at three star prices. I was very worried about finding a nice moderately priced hotel in Rome and would not have found the Hotel Canada without the great reviews on Trip Advisor. Thanks!

We have travelled to many places in Europe, but never to Rome and it was difficult to choose a hotel. Lots of reviews on this site were mixed, with some of the really well known names (and therefore really expensive!) even got some bad reviews. So when we came across the Hotel Canada reviews, we booked it without a second thought.... hoping that so many positive comments would guarentee a nice holiday.

We weren't disappointed! Nice and near to the station, the staff were so friendly, our room was a nice size and the decor was lovely. It was Exceptionally clean - I'm very hard to please on this issue and can usually pick fault, but not in this case! Breakfast was nice too.

The only small negative is that I had requested a quiet room, and ours was near the lift (which was a wonderful old thing where you had to manually pull shut the internal doors and then close the 'cage' door) and it was a little too noisy for me. BUT we could have asked to move rooms, but my husband said it wasn't too noisy for him and as I'm so easily disturbed I had earplugs with me!

All in all, a great hotel that I have no hesitation recommending!!

Great Room steep price

We stayed here for two nights, and we were impressed with the room. This was the nicest hotel we stayed at in Europe. The beds were hard as rocks, but the rest of the room made up for it.

The breakfast was also the best we had during our vacation, and the area around the hotel seemed very safe and full of Americans.

We would stay here again.

I stayed here with my parents 16 years and decided to return with my husband.

What a treat it was to walk into our room. It was huge!! WE had stayed in other hotels in Europe and the rooms were SO small. We had some nice snacks and cocktail in thier bar. They reccomended a very good and inexpensive dinner at a resturant next door. Breakfast was lovely!

Our friends paid $100 more a night at the Atlantic Star and were very disappointed. Thier room was small and dirty and the staff there was NOT helpful!!!

The staff was so friendly and helpful. I wish they did have a shuttle from the train station. It is very close, but a haul with the way I pack!!!

Hotel Canada is Great!!

We just returned from Europe. I had to write and say that Hotel Canada was everything the reviewers claim. It was great! The breakfast was delicious, especially for those with a sweet tooth, the pastries were yummy. We also grabbed a piece of fresh fruit to eat later. The room was spotlessly clean and very quiet. The pizza place closest to the hotel was one of our favorites. The front desk was very helpful and always friendly.

I was their for four days in May,great location for transit, great buffet, and Gaspare the porter and barman real gentleman. The rooms were spotless and beautifully furnished. I had the pleasure to meet the Manager, class act. This hotel should be rated four stars.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Beware of thiefs -Pickpockets Just a quick note in relation to the Metro station and main attractions. There are a huge number of thiefs that prey on tourists while in Rome. These ppl are experts and you wont even know or feel it until its too late. The strike mostly when the Metro is extremely busy so between 5-7pm. Id advise you to take taxis at this time as they are cheap enough, better than getting all your belongings taken. BE CAREFUL!

Getting Around Rome would be a tough trip with very small children. Public transportation and walking is the main way to get around. The streets are not stroller friendly and the traffic can be outright frightening. Children should always hold on to their parents crossing the streets and entering/exiting public transport. The subways and trains are quite crowded, but cabs aren't much more comfortable because they are quite tiny. Everything moves very fast, so keeping an eye on numerous children would be a challenge. The blocks are fairly short, but the all day walking will wear out small children quickly. I don't recommend Rome for anyone with children under six years old at a minimum. The public restrooms are also beyond tiny and are few and far between. Many don't utlize toilet seats (a European thing??) so sitting your child right on the bowl can rattle you! I can't imagine changing a diaper in one!

Transport Buy a day ticket (E4) for unlimited travel on the Metro, buses and trams.
