Probably the worst hotel I have stayed in.
Rooms are dim and dreary. There seems to be no natural light in the hotel.
Bathroom badly in need of some attention. We asked twice for the fridge to be fixed. It never happened.
TV was small portable size with one English speaking channel. No SKY. Not even SKY News
Breakfast was unbelievabe. Hard boiled eggs, madeira cake, coffee. This was advertised as 4 star!!
Absolutely awful, someone must take these people to task and have them adjust thier status as a 4 star hotel.

No bar service. Rooms extremely dim.
Breakfast choice very poor. Reminded me of an underground bunker.

The worst hotel I've ever stayes in! The family booked for 5 nights we left after 1 it was that bad. The TV was broken and there was no sky, the jacuzzi knobs were not operational and in addition when turned on it flooded the bathroom -they called for assistance and told us it was in fully working order so we go to try it again and what a suprise it floods again so we call the steward to watch us flood the place, the toilet flusher came off in your hand, the sink would not empty of water, there was no fire escape, the extra put up bed fell to the floor when you sat on it, the air-con wasn't working but the staff tried to tell us it was - they lied, the breakfast was awful - consisting of one cold hard boiled egg and yoghurts which were repulsive. In fairness the staff were average but they didn't seem to care really. The place needs to be knocked down. They say fully equipped facilities, I failed to see any. The conference room could sit a maximum of 4 people and the computer didn't even work.
Call this a 4 star??? Certainly not.
It's good we can laugh at this experience and all I can say is thank god for the other proper 4 star hotel we moved too!

On arrival we too were told that the room we had booked was not available (turns out there was an extended group booking) and were put up in the apartment next door. No en-suite bathroom, tiny room and no apology given! A massive disappointment.

Wonderful Accomodations

My husband and I just returned from our Rome vacation in November 2005, where we stayed at the Atlante Garden Hotel. We were very pleased with our accomodations and service and were quite surprised to read some of the previous reviews. From check in to check out, the hotel staff provided fast exceptional service. Everyday we came back to our hotel to fresh linen, towels, refreshments and bath soaps waiting. We had a terrific view from our 4th floor room, to the west viewing the Vatican City wall. We found Atlante Garden to be a great location for site seeing and did all of our travels by foot. We were impressed with the daily buffet breakfast, consisting of breads, meats, cheeses, cereal, fruits and danishes, coffee, tea, milk and juice. The view from Les Estoiles to St. Peter's Basilica is breathtaking. We will certainly be back and recommend anyone traveling to Rome and wanting to stay in the Vatican area to check into Atlante Garden or Atlante Star Hotels! Thank You Atlante Garden!

On arrival there was no room available. We were told we would be put up in there sister hotel The Atlante Star. They Lied. We were put in an apartment next door. No heating, no security, no apoligies, take it or leave it. The next day we were given a room. Small and dated. I left Rome with no regrets.

Basic but OK

We stayed at the Atlante Garden in March 2004. I was a bit worried after reading some of the other reviews on here. However, the hotel was fine and was reasonable value as hotels in major European cities go.
The room was large and clean, the decor and furnishings a bit shabby and breakfast was something of a shambles because there was not enough cutlery, glasses or plates. I would neither recommend it nor vote against it - it is handy for most of the sights and I would go back again.

Everybody beware. This is a scam. This hotel is not under any circumstances a 4 star hotel. This is just like a dirty hostel.All the websites and pictures you see will not be what you get. Rome was ruined for us.

I found on the web a great bargain for this nice hotel which added to the free airport shuttle made up a great gift for me and my wife. It is very well positioned, right by the vatican city. Actually it only takes a 10 minutes walk to the main places of interest such as piazza Spagna and Via del Corso. The rooms are somewhat a little bit cramped because of the little space provided, for U.S. standards. Check out the other hotel of the same property, the Atlante Star which is 1 block away and has a wonderful rooftop restaurant with an astonishing view on Rome.

We stayed at the Atlante Garden Hotel in mid-Jan 2004 for a long weekend and we have to say that we were disappointed. Like a previous reviewer we found the basement lobby area quite shabby and very unappealing. You would be lucky to get two people and two suitcases into the tiny lift (the only one for the hotel). As mentioned by others we found the roof garden views/restaurants were at the sister hotel Atlante Star and not this one. This was particularly misleading on the many websites.The room was the worse part, nothing major but lots of smaller things that added up. Luckily we were staying at the back of the hotel so it was pretty quiet (however the area is pretty quite anyway). As we were facing all other buildings the room got hardly any light and with no main ceiling lights and the wall light not working properly, the room was very dark even with the lights we had on permanently! And the dark blue textile wall coverings didn t help (why?). We felt like vampires whenever we stepped into the room. The fridge wasn't even cool, the bathroom had some wires and pipes exposed (due to previous work we assume), the floor has cracked tiles, towels with rips or holes in them and worse of all the main door had a frame that was coming out of the wall (very secure huh?).It didn t ruin our holiday luckily and once you got use to the room and knew what to expect it was ok but no way was this a 4* hotel we would be generous if we gave it 3! Definitely not worth the money we paid and we would not recommend it to any friends. Only plus points are that it is very close to the Vatican and had a decent shopping street nearby.

I just got back from a weekend staying at the Atlante Garden and the hotel is fine. The room was large, clean and the staff were extremely helpful. It is true that the roof garden etc is in the Atlante Star round the corner which was really nice but you can choose which hotel to have your breakfast at. The area is quiet (only 5 minutes from Vatican), however if you are after cheap accommodation which is clean and friendly then I would recommend it. The jacuzzi made it extra special! I wouldn't say it is 4 star but for the price we paid we were never expecting it to be anyway.

We stayed at the Atlante Garden in december 2003 and were quite satisfied with our choice. Staff polite and helpfull to give us a lot of informations, rooms cosy and bright, jacuzzi relaxing! best of all is the "walking around the corner" and have st. peter's in front. We were really happy during our stay and plan to come again next year.

We arrived by taxi at the hotel on the last day of our vacation to find that "there was a problem with our room." The man at the front desk made a big show of shuffling papers and screaming in on the phone to show us how distressed he was over the inconvenience. He didn't know I spoke fluent Italian though and knew he was basically saying that he was trying to make a big show for us. He told us that he was going to put us in apartment around the corner. Too exhausted to fight, we agreed - even though I'd read of this same situation at this hotel at tripadvisor. So he sent a porter to help us with our luggage. We walked about 5 blocks, then turned down an alley and another alley and entered the apartment, which was actually nice, recently remodeled, well appointed... BUT there was no phone, so there was no way to call for a taxi at 6:00 AM the next morning, and no way to get a wake-up call.
There was also no clock. And they hadn't quite finished the room because where there should've been a light fixture were live wires. Oh, and the lock didn't work so a man walked right in off the alley. At which point my husband found his way back to the hotel and complained until they found us a room in another hotel, which was probably nicer than the Atlante Garden was anyway.

From the moment the Taxi stopped in front of the Hotel, I knew I wouldn't like it. The Lobby is in the basement and doesn't really look encouraging. The room was very small and the furniture old. The bathroom was ok though. If you are only interested in the vatican..etc the location is fine but all other attractions including the main piazzas (navona, campo de fiori, venezia, popolo, spagna) are too far on foot. Another bad thing about it is that they close the door too early, sometimes as early as 2 a.m and that was during the summer!! You have to ring the bell several times before someone opens up. The price doesn't really reflect the service. I've been to cheaper ones in rome that were much better.

Lasting memories

An anniversary that we will never forget. Even with a change in our flight the driver from the hotel picked us up. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. Our room was small but we didn't come to Rome just to stay in our room. It's true this isn't an american 4 star hotel but it's friendly,clean,comfortable and has an excellent breakfast. And everything is within walking distance. It's worth the money. Thank you Atlante Garden Hotel staff we had a great time.

Watch out fellow travellers for the Atlante Garden and Star. After they pick you up at the Airport, they may hit you with the bait and switch. WE have no rooms and have booked you in a flea bag in one of the most dangerous areas of Rome. Not that, their rooms are any better.......The rooms are dated early seventies formica yuck....Buyer beware !!!!!!!!

Top Local Tips for Rome

Taxis If getting a taxi from Termini to your hotel when first arriving, be careful that you are not overcharged. We asked how much the fare would be and the driver said it would be on the meter. When we arrived at the hotel the meter was on about 9 euros but somehow it ended up as 35 euros when the driver had got our cases out of the boot and taken them three yards to the hotel! The hotel reception later told us the journey should have cost no more then 12 euros. Apparently this is quite a regular occurence for people first arriving in the city. We found subsequent taxi journeys to be very reasonably priced. Another good way to get around and to get your bearings is to get a tour bus round the city.

Caution in Rome I've travelled to quite a few locations around the world now and lived and worked in some others, but I have to say that Barcelona and Rome are really the two places in Europe that I've been to where you have to be really careful on the streets. This trip, my partner and I were confronted by a bloke who drew up in front of us in his car pretending to be lost in Rome and tried to con us that he was the European rep for Pierre Cardin. He tried to give us what he claimed were 'free samples' - in return for 'petrol money', which turned out to be 50-100 Euros! After I realised what was going on (and he was *very* good, friendly and plausible) I shoved the stuff back through his window and we had a good laugh about it later. On reflection though, if you were a woman on your own or less confident this could have been a really frightening experience; a shame because on the whole we found the Romans to be nice, friendly people... so just be careful out there!

Airport pickup Use the hotels free pickup service at the airport and use the tourist buses on your first day to get your bearings on the city, distances etc.Rome can be done on foot once you know the layout.
