Rude staff and long trip into Rome

My boyfriend and I stayed at Aris Garden for my 21st birthday. When we arrived straight away I realised that this was not a 4 star hotel - maybe 10 years ago! The hotel wasnt dirty but it was all very old. The breakfast was revolting - the bacon and eggs had all obviously been sits in a cold dish from 7 - 10. The hotel staff was extremely rude - when we asked a question - our response was a rude what?? In order to get into the centre of Rome you had to get a bus (which you have to wait up to an hour for) followed by the really revolting and dirty metro. We both knew how far out of the centre of Rome the hotel was but it was alot further than we had imagined. The trip became very tedious - especially in the very hot heat. On our first evening we got off the bus at the wrong stop (it was dark so we didnt really know where to get off, and as the area is residential - nobody spoke english) we ended up walking round and round the area for over an hour until we found the hotel - very scary experience. Down by the pool, music blares out all day through the speakers, so tough luck if your looking to relax a bit. The music was also very inappropriate for the holiday makers there as it was full of swear words - that didnt offend me or my boyfriend but I wouldnt like it if I was there with children. The rooms themselves were very spacious but once again - everything was very old. Hence we will not be returning

An ideal base for exploring Rome

We had read some extremely mixed reviews of this hotel but found it to be an ideal out of town location with easy access to the city centre. The clean rooms were air conditioned with bedding changed daily. The pool area was clean and spacious with deck chairs and recliners provided free of charge (sun beds were 3 Euros). Breakfast was continental and perfectly adequate. We did not have any other meals at the hotel; there was a lovely restaurant just around the corner with great food at great prices. A nice bar too, but we thought his beer was expensive at 5 euros (even if it was supplied with nuts/snacks)! The reception staff at the Aris Garden were very helpful in telling us how to get in to the City centre using the bus (just around the corner) and the Metro. Takes about 30 minutes. Reception even sold the 1 Euro 75 minute bus/metro tickets which was useful if the news agents around the corner was closed. The Aris Garden was ideal as a base and we would recommend it. Our hot tip for Rome (when it is hot); don't throw your empty water bottles away - simply refill them at the many water fountains dotted around the city. The water is clean, cool and tasty and don't worry it won't make you ill - we can vouch for that.
