Top Local Tips for Rome

Campo di Fiori Have a meal at night in this very vibrant square in the heart of Rome. Great atmosphere, good food and drink and nice to walk around. You can visit it in the day when it is a busy market selling mostly fruit and veg and flowers.

Metro If your not used to using the tubes, get your bearing using an open top bus tour and get used to the bustle and pace before using the metro, or use if first out of peak times. It can be very imitimidating experience being face to face with all sort of nationalities and standards of hygiene on the metro. Its easier to pay a euro and start at the furtherest historical place and then walk back to the next metro stop as you see so much more, then pay a euro to get back rather than paying 11 euros for a day pass when you spend so much time seeing the sights.

Drinking water Rome in the summer is very hot. Tourists, and North Americans particularly, wander around with bottles of spring water, and initially we took our water too. But we soon found the public spigots were frequent enough, with excellent spring water (real, not faked by some multinational corporation), and quite sanitary despite the unfamiliar method of delivery.
