Historical Traveller Reviews of Accademia Hotel

Everything was fantastic!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had booked 7 nights at the hotel Accademia, between 12th -19th Dec 2004, via Thomas Cook Signature Holidays. Arrived to be told we had to spend the first night at the Hotel White (sister hotel) around the corner, due to a lift problem at the Accademia, but we were promised a superior room back at the Accademia for our remaining 6 nights.

True to their word, we returned to the Accademia the following morning to be given a room in their superior wing. It was beautiful! Gorgeous marble bathroom (massive) and the room itself had a beamed ceiling and was very spacious and comfortable. We were very happy!

The staff were curteous and polite, spoke excellent english and couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast was plentiful, with a varied choice of continental items and cooked (bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages). If you prefer cappucino to the standard tea or coffee be sure to ask the restaurant staff and they will make one up for you on request.

The hotel is situated in a quiet street, so we had a decent nights sleep and is only 2 minutes walk from the Trevi Fountain and all the lovely restaurants. One restaurant we highly recommend is Il Chianti Vineria on Via Del Lavatore, around the corner from the Accademia. It had a fantastic choice of food and wines and was very reasonably priced. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the food splendid! They never rushed us, we could've sat there all night if we'd wished!

We were able to visit all the major attractions from the hotel, they are within easy walking distance, although we used the Metro to reach the Vatican city. One night we walked round the outside of the Colosseum and the Forum. Altough splendid by day, they were even more eerie and enchanting by night! Also, the shops are brilliant and the ice cream parlours are to die for!!! If you want a cheap coffee, stand up at the counter, it's far cheaper than sitting down and having waiter service. Also, we recommend the News Cafe, next door to the Accademia Hotel -it serves a free buffet every evening from 5pm onwards, a bit like tappas. Well recommended! Very friendly staff!

If we return to Rome (we tossed our coins into the fountain to ensure we do!!) then we will definately stay at the Accademia again. Even if we'd had one of the smaller rooms we would have been happy. The whole Rome experience was fantastic from start to finish, and by going in December the food & drink prices were cheaper, and the museums and sights were uncrowded. We also visited Naples and Pompeii for the day, and that was an unforgettable experience, absolutely amazing!

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the Hotel Accademia in December 2004. We prepaid our accomodation before leaving Australia and wish we hadn,t because we would have stayed somewhere else. Our first night was spent in a room so small we had to put our cases together on the floor and move them to get into the bathroom or out of the room. The bathroom itself stank of mould which was so bad that we had to shut the door and have the bedroom window open all night to even try to sleep, about 1 hour was all we got the smell was so bad. We complained the afternoon we arrived, again that night and then again in the morning and were then moved to a room in the superior wing which was bigger but still had that smell in the bathroom - although not as bad, and the beds were like stone slabs.
So, while the location is great and the staff speak good English and are helpful be sure to ask for a superior room.
Certainly not worth the money we paid.

Great Location

We spent 5 nights at the Accademia in November. Three of us had two rooms, 1 double and 1 single. Rooms were very comfortable. Nice bathrooms. Quiet. Good breakfast. Location excellent for those wanting to visit the centro storico of Rome. Within walking distance of most historical sights. Close to bus and metro lines. Hotel staff very helpful. No complaints at all.

t Have Been Better

This hotel made the trip...the staff couldnt have been more helpful, the location (about 100 yards from Trevi Fountain) was key, the area felt safe at any time at night, and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The hotel was quiet, clean, and perfectly located for tourists. The room was a bit small and navigating the hotel can be a bit of a maze but that is par for the course in much of old Europe. I was concerned before heading to Rome for the first time after reading all the horror stories regarding others and their hotel experiences in Italy but this hotel exceeded all my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone.

Excellent location, clean rooms, nice staff

from MichaelLeeHongKong
The location of this hotel is just so convenient. It's within walking distances of almost all major attractions: 3 mins to Trevi Fountain, 20 mins to Spanish steps/shopping area, 10 mins to subway, 20mins to Patheon and 2 steps away from wonderful ice-cream shops! Staff are also quite nice. The only drawbacks is the size of the room which is a bit small but it's definitely clean!

Great Location

Hotel Accademia was "home" for 5 days on a recent visit to Rome. The location was great. Just around the corner from Trevi Fountain and the bus stop. The staff was helpful and the breakfasts were great. Our room was clean, but was very small and in need of some major remodeling. Bath was fine. We would recommend this hotel due to the great location, but think it was a bit pricey for the room we had.

Hotel did not honour its refund policy

from A TripAdvisor Member
We booked accommodation, over the internet, for three people for a week in September 2004 at this hotel. Owing to a change of plans we had to cancel. We met ALL the conditions for a refund. My credit card statement showed that money had been taken from my account without authority and that the hotel had ignored its own cancellation policy. Despite a letter to the manager I have received neither a response to my letter nor the refund.

A great hotel in a great location

from Deror
I loved my six nights stay at this little hotel. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable, and the location is great - right across the Trevi fountain, walking distance from the Pantheon, the Capitoline Hill, Piazza Navona, Burghese gallery.
5 minutes walk from the Berbernini tube station.
The hotel has a very nice breakfast and a very helpful staff.

LOVED THE ACCADEMIA

from A TripAdvisor Member
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Hotel Accademia. The staff were very polite and helpful and spoke good English which was a bonus. Rooms were larger than most European Hotes that we had previously stayed at and the bathroom was huge! You cannot beat the location -just meters from the Trevi Fountain and a bus stop is right on the doorstep. Lovely restaurants and many shops close by. We will be definately returning.

Fantastic location

from Hopi
Spent three nights here in August with my daughter. The hotel is small, the rooms are basic but adequate. the staff were excellent. We could not have picked a better hotel for location. It is just around the corner from the Trevi Fountain and within walking distance to many of Rome's attractions.Hope to go back again with my husband in the spring.

Top Local Tips for Rome

Save money Do not eat at cafes or restaurants. Visit tratorias that normally have a lunch special.

Vatican museums & Sistine Chapel check the opening and closing time currently as it changes frequently. If you want to see the vatican museums consider going later in the day ie 1pm as the queues are practically nil.

Get Buses they are really cheap and very easy to pick up
