Great little hotel. Extremely clean, actually sparkles. Good service, if a little stiff, but very responsive. Beautiful little breakfast room with frescoed ceiling. Central location with easy access to all the sites via Metro or bus. Good value for the money.

Not a pleasent stay at Aberdeen

When we checked into the hotel, they gave us keys to a room already occupied by other guests. Then it took almost an hour to get keys to a room that was available, whcih was one with two twin beds instead of a full bed. Even though we had reserved a room with a full bed months ago, they obviously overbooked. The room itself was not very clean and had a funny smell. The bathroom was small and also not very clean. There were a lot of renovations going on in the hotel so it was noisy and we had no internet access. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for some inconveniences due to the renovations, but the room mix-up and the time to get it worked out was not very pleasant. I would not stay here again.

We stayed all over Italy and this hotel was far and beyond the best! The staff is exceptionally helpful and takes a personal interest in seeing that your stay in Rome is as convenient as possible. The rooms are large (for Italy) and it has a great location. Highly recommended!

Service was great, hotel ok

Service is wonderful. Annamaria and her staff go out of their way to help their guests. The free internet is great. The beds are very comfortable. However, the hotel accomdations are just average. This is a budget hotel...nothing fancy at all. There was a lot of renovation work going on at the hotel so it could be a bit noisy.

Good stay in Sept.

We stayed at the Aberdeen for two nights in Sept. Our room was tiny, but clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful and we enjoyed the location close to Termini. Also liked the free internet access off the lobby.

Aberdeen Hotel is Excellent

Stayed at the Aberdeen in Rome on August 8-9 and then again on August 18-19. Paid $88 the first time and $75 for a slightly smaller room the second time. We had a private bath and air conditioning. Annamaria and her staff, who run the hotel, are dynomite. The hotel is near the Termini Station and across the street from the Italian Defense Dept. We had two guards out front with automatic weapons 24 hours a day. Safe neighborhood. We are over 60 and walked to all sights except the Vatican.

Stayed here Aug 22,23,24 2004 with wife and 2 year old. Suggested by Rick Steve's guide.

Aug is a slow month and Hotel was undergoing renovation. Fortunately we got a real nice room (51) which is secluded and we weren't in any way affected by construction.

Helpful staff, decent sized room and bathroom, air conditioned, 6-7 min walk from subway and 12 min walk/4Euro taxi from Termini train/bus station. Seemed like a safe area even late at night. Simple breakfast included (no fresh fruit, eggs etc). No 5 star hotel, but as a reasonable place (90 Euro/night) to shower and get a good night's sleep, convenient to get to, this was a great place.

The staff here are the most friendly and helpful you will come across. I have stayed at many hotels and none have been as professional and friendly as here. You only have to look a little confused and they will go out of their way to assist you and make your stay as comfortable as possible. We had 3 of us in a double room with an extra bed. The rooms are comfortable, clean and traditional. Breakfasts are great. The location is fantastic. Only minutes walk from the colusseum, roman forum and shopping strips, and short bus ride to Vatican City. It is definately the staff (see Annamaria) of this family business that make this a fantastic stay!

Loved the Aberdeen

Spent four nights in Rome at the Aberdeen Hotel. It was a great choice. Conveniently located (near the Termini) yet a quiet and safe neighbourhood (right next to the Ministry of Defense). Hotel staff was extremely helpful in suggesting various excursions and sights to visit. Only negative was the lousy coffee at breakfast each morning. Inspite of that we'd still go back there again. (Coffee was great at all other places in Rome).

I can't tell you how much I love and appreciate the Aberdeen Hotel in Rome. The location is great and the staff is awesome. I've stayed three time now and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, not to mention it's a great value for your dollar.

We stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen from May 10 through May 13 2004. We were very pleased with this hotel. Since this was a spontanious trip to Italy, so we needed to book a room with only a few days notice. They responded quickly to my e-mails and sent me specific details on directions to the hotel.

The room was quiet and clean and we loved the free internet access on the main floor. But the best part was the friendly and helpful staff. They took extra time to help us with taxis, restaurants, tickets to see the Pope and even calling hotels in Florence for us. Needless to say, we definitely recommend this friendly hotel.

Top Local Tips for Rome

vatican / sistine chapel visit take a mirror with you to look at the ceiling as this saves neck ache and you see the picuters the right way round. We got some strange looks but i think people were envious.

Bus Crush Stay near the center doors on the buses, especially during busy times of day. You cannot exit through the front doors near the driver and we got "trapped" in the front on an over-crowded bus and couldn't get to the center door in time to exit. It was not problem, since the next stop was just as convenient, but could've potentially been a pain!

Beware pickpockets on the buses and Metro The streets feel very safe but the Metro and buses on the tourist routes - e.g. the Vatican - are plauged by pickpockets. Keep valuables like cameras and iPods out of sight, keep all bags very close to your person, remove money and wallets from trouser pockets and fasten your coat up tightly. We were followed onto the Metro twice by gangs of teenagers working together and had to stare them out before they decided to move on. You will see them on the platforms walking up and down looking at peoples bags and pockets, and whistling signals to each other. My advice is to not turn your back on them but look directly at them and hold your bags and posessions tightly.
