Excellent concierge and staff service

While booking at the last minute, we thoroughly enjoyed the junior suite that we had. All the the staff were extremely friendly and exceptionally helpful. Our room was kept immaculately and the food for both breakfast and dinner was outstanding. The location of the hotel was great. Take the 300+ steps into town and climb up the hill on the way back...

If you walk up the steps to the pool and find that you need to move a sun lounger the staff will be there to move it for you before you get to touch it. The views are fantastic, the food excellent, but most of all the staff are friendly and caring. You will be pampered.

This hotel is definitely the best place I've ever stayed. The rooms are luxurious, the staff are fantastic, great views from the balcony and the food from the restaurant was some of the best I've tasted in Italy. I can't reccommend this place enough, although you will pay for the great experience.

Hotel is a 10 minute walk from the beach and shops, with a great views of the side of town that runs along Christopeher Columbus road. Only drawback is that you cannot see the sunset on this side.

Staff is very helpful and warm. The bar area is a great place to unwind, and the room we stayed in had a great view from the balcony (jr. suite room).

We stayed here for some of our honeymoon. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Say hi to Jennie for us - she knows everything and even remembers everyone's names. The hotel is great - the terrace by the pool is amazing and the living room area are perfect for hanging out. The waiters are attentive and we had many delicious cappucinos by the pool looking at the spectacular view. We were immediately greated with a honeymoon spread of proseco and olives. We enjoyed them on our terrace. We will definitely stay here again. The only thing is the rooms need a little updating but no complaints because we did not want to pay the ridiculous amount to stay at the Sirenuse. This place is friendly and more affordable.

Perfect selection

Five in our family group had two adjoining rooms in this very lovely hotel in May 2004 for one week. Each room had a lovely balcony with terrrific view. The breakfast was excellent in every way. The staff were very very kind and helpful. I had lost my passport and they obtained information for me on how to replace it. We dined around each evening and for lunch. Very steep walking but the shops were fantastic. learned to take a bus back up the hill for a reasonable price. All in all Positano was a very excellent choice for our time spent in Italy.

My husband at I spent a portion of our honeymoon at the Hotel Poseidon! It was heavenly. We actually re-arranged our plans so we could return to the Hotel Poseidon for the last night of our honeymoon. The staff was so friendly, the service wonderful, the view breathtaking and the rooms beautiful. I would recommend it to anyone. It was a fantasitc experience. We are currently planning our next trip to the Hotel Poseidon for the spring of this year.

After arriving in town 2 days early and our hotel not being able to take us, we checked into the Hotel Poseidon. The desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. The only thing lovelier than our room was our bathroom! You could lie in the bath and look out over the town and the mountain. It was wonderful. The breakfast was fantastic and the bar in the evening was quiet, peaceful and fun. We look forward to returning someday.

Romantic and Relaxing

I am sorry to hear that the last reviewer was disapointed with the Poseidon on their honeymoon. I stayed there with my husband for our honeymoon also in Sept (18-25th) and can't disagree enough. Our Superior Jnr Suite was suberb (although after staying at the Ceasar Augustus on Capri, it was a bit of a shock to the system), the restaurant was both stunning in terms of setting and food and the whole hotel couldn't have been more romantic if it had tried! The staff all seemed friendly enough to me and we are counting the days until we can go there again. Also, it had probably the best continental breakfast I have ever eaten - and til 11am - fantastic!

Disappointing

Would not recommend the Hotel Poseidon. It is over priced for the standards provided. We went their on honeymoon Sept 2004 and paid 284 euro for a so called deluxe room - the room was v small and the bathroom completely outdated. We cut our stay short their as a result and got a far superior room in the Punta Regina for less money. I would also say that the staff were v unhelpful and we were v disappointed with their attitude.

While the view from the Hotel Poseidon is great and the restaurant has a fantastic setting & their are other amenities which some of the other 4 stars in Positano do not have the Poseidon is over priced and they are trading too much on the location & the view.

Hotel Poseidon was nice. It was fine. The people were nice, but not overly friendly. My boyfriend and I spent four nights there, and enjoyed our stay. But, fair warning for Americans, it is very European...

for example:

a king size bed is the standard "2 twins pushed together"

minimal decor... one small dresser in the small closet

view from our balcony was VERY obstructed

the hairdryer was a tube with a small stream of warm air coming out

we had an ant invasion in our bathroom (which was promptly taken care of upon notification)

small tv, with only one english channel; no movies, etc.

linens ok, but nothing special

maid service only mediocre

HIGHLIGHTS:

Good breakfast buffet included and open till 11am (which is huge for us as we stayed out late and slept in each morning)

Quiet hotel with few young people (almost no children), which was nice b/c we really wanted to relax

Excellent air conditioner (with MANY settings, etc), so we were never uncomfortable

maids came by each evening to replace towels, bring extra pillows, etc

The terrace (which served meals, had a bar, included the pool, etc.) was amazing... the bar was quite nice, but closed a bit early... nice porch swings and loungers on the terrace... really was breathtaking...

Things to note:

Gym closes early

Staff is not OVERLY friendly

parking does cost 20 Euros or so per day (but if you're up for an adventure DEFINITELY rent a car, we had SO much fun with our Fiat Panda) and it is valet

Bottom line:

This hotel is nice, but it is not a Ritz. I cannot imagine that any of the lesser priced hotels were less cushy or less nice, but I didn't really check. If I return, I will either stay at Le Sireneuse or Palazzo Sasso in Ravello (we had an excellent dinner there one night and it seemed MUCH nicer)

We stayed at the Poseidon for 4 days during our Honeymoon. We stayed there after a few days in Capri and before Ravello and Ischia. It was absolutely my favorite place during the trip.

We splurged for a suite at the top of the hotel -- the $$ was well worth it for the honeymoon, but for a future stay, I'll try a regular room. I looked at them - they are VERY small, but most have a good-sized balcony. Trust me, even w/ the large suite, we spent minimal time in the room -- you will spend it at the pool/restaurant deck, walking around town, or on your room balcony.

Loved the people who worked there - and I also enjoyed meeting the people who stayed there. My husband and I often played backgammon or chess after dinner with drinks on the restaurant deck. Rooms are clean - the suite is great.

The Location: it's on the beautiful built-up side of Positano, so you look on the other side (where the Sirenuse is) -- but it is absolutely beautiful and no complaints. It's nice and high up in town so you get great views, and it's just enough away from the hustle and bustle at the bottom. The restaurants (esp. the pizza place and I forget the name of the family restaurant) up the street are great -- typically Italian -- the view owners treated us great when we told them that the Poseidon sent us. Exactly what we wanted!

Sirenuse comparison: We went to the Sirenuse for drinks around twilight - which is what I recommend. We paid around $450 and the Sirenuse was around $600 for a regular room -- Poseidon was definitely a better deal, nice and quiet/friendly -- go to the Sirenuse for lunch if you wish -- definitely for drinks.

We will probably stay there for the majority of our Amalfi Coast stay -- when we do go back!

Top Local Tips for Positano

You may arrive by ferry but if possible come by car Older folks should rent a car to come to Positano for the easiest arrival.you can arrive by ferry but you must arrange for the hotel or the dock porter to bring your bags to the hotel.From the beach in Positano you can take a ferry to and from Capri,Sorrento and Naples.Bella

June is a perfect time to visit June is a fabulous time to visit Positano. It's very hot (26 -29 degrees) but not to the extremes that you would get in July and August. It's obvioulsy busy with tourists but not overrun...the loungers by the pool are not always busy...there is space at the beach and for the most part resturant reservations are not always neccesary.

Walking The hills are steep and Positano probably isn't the place for those with mobility problems. My wife and I do not suffer in this way and, in fact, are walkers. We enjoyed the wonderful "Walk of The Gods from above Amalfi to Monte Pertuso, above Positano. On arriving there, we had the opportunity to catch a bus down to the village but decided to walk. A great mistake. There were several thousand steps to go down and the following day our calves had seized up. Catch the bus!
