Heaven on Earth

My wife and I stayed at the Albergo Miramare in June 2002 for 5 nights during our honeymoon. What a great hotel. Our room was superb and included an unbelievable view of Positano and the Mediterranean. The staff and breakfast were also top-notch.

If you are looking for a nearby restaurant, I recommend Cuccina Casareccia da Vincenzo. It is only a few steps from the Albergo Miramare and the service and food is fantastic. After eating there 4 out of the 5 nights of our stay the owners and staff made us to feel as if we were family.

We just got back from a 4 week trip of Italy and of all the amazing sights we saw in this wondeful country Positano was definately our highlight - it is absolutely breathtaking! We stayed at the Albergo Miramere which was by far the best hotel we came across during our trip (even better than the 5 star hotels). We had a deluxe double room which was fabulous (spacious, very clean and warmly furnished with a large modern bathroom and whirlpool bath) - but best of all were the stunning views from our balcony. All of the staff (particularly the amazing front desk staff who are extraordinarily welcoming and really make the hotel such a great place to stay) were genuinely warm, friendly and extremely helpful. We can't wait to return!

Loved This Hotel and Positano

We stayed at this hotel in mid-October based on trip advisor reviews and were so happy with our choice. The hotel is a climb, but it helped work off all the calories from the delicious pizzas and gelato in town. Plus, as one reviewer previously said, Positano is one big hill. I was so nervous about picking a place in Positano that I debated lots of hotels, most of which we passed by on our walks through town. I am so glad we went with this one! With the exception of Le Sirenuse, which is very pricey, I can't imagine a better view elsewhere. We had room 212 and loved the view from our terrace and even from our bed! The bathrooms are beautiful and the rooms larger than expected (if you've ever stayed at a bed and breakfast in the US, these rooms are suites in comparison). We loved the robes and bath slippers provided, the fluffy towels, the powerful hairdrye. The breakfast was lovey - just don't get there late - and the views from the breakfast room are amazing!

The staff was very nice, and Rosita was so nice and helpful with taking care of our taxi/driver to get into Psotano, and with restaurant recommendations. Unfortunately we didn't see her much after getting there, but the rest of the staff was just as helpful. We went to Le Sirenuse for drinks before dinner one night - what a fabulous view - different angle than the Miramare but not necessarily better. Still, it was worth going. We had a wonderful dinner one night at the Poseidon hotel - we wanted to sit out on the balcony but the weather wouldn't permit it. Still, the restaurant staff was incredible, the food delicious. Afterwards, we went down to the beach - near the Buca di Bacco snack bar there is a cafe that has live music (jazz friday nights) every night.

Positano was wonderful and relaxing (though very pricey), and I don't think you'll get a better value or view for your money than Miramare. It is such a lovely hotel in every aspect - it really should be a 4 star rather than 3 star.

We stayed in room 218 during the first few days in September and can't say enough about the hotel staff, the view and the town. Our room was a good size and had a small terrace that overlooked the sea--very quiet location. As you've read, there are about 240 stairs to the beach and town, so be prepared to climb! The breakfast was good--the usual assortments of bread, yogurt, cereal--but the view made it great. The dining room overlooks the sea. The front desk was very helpful and even assisted us with our Italian--they all spoke English and humored us with our attempts to speak Italian. I would definitely recommend this hotel--I thought it was in a wonderful location and we were treated very well, everyone was so nice!

The Miramare was a wonderful experience for us this past August. We stayed in Room 203, which has a very large private terrace with a fantastic view of the beach below, the sea & the town of Positano. It was heavenly to step out onto the terrace and take in the view several times each day.

The steps were a little tiring coming from the beach, but not as difficult going up to the road. I enjoyed walking up the road, and then down the steps to the hotel even though this took longer. But, thankfully, the location of the Miramare provides much more peace & quiet than the hotels on the road.

The room was nice, although we had just come from Caesar Augustus in Anacapri, where we had a huge, bright & light room. So, when we first walked into room 203, I was slightly disappointed because the room seemed so dark. But as soon as we opened all the shutters and took the dark bedspread off the bed, the room was so much better-looking. It has nice antiques and beautiful tiles in the bathroom. The bathroom is lovely, and has a bathtub with a handheld shower, which took some getting used to. But it also had 2 windows (very private) so that you could still enjoy that fabulous view during your shower. Towels were nice & fluffy, and bathrobes/slippers were also provided.

Rosita was as nice, or perhaps nicer, as everyone else has pointed out. She sent us to Cumpo Cosimo restaurant in Ravello, and we were well taken care of by the owner there.

One of our highlights in Positano was our boatride on O Sole Mio, the hotel boat. What a glorious afternoon! The captain stopped by some nearby islands to let us swim, then showered us off and offered us wine and fruit on the return.

We definitely plan on returning someday to Albergo Miramare. It is not on the same level as Le Sirenuse, but the view and service (& price!) make the place magical.

best vacation yet

one of the prettiest sites carved out of a beautiful mountain. we had the best vacation ever in positano.. the hotel was perfect.. rosita was even better then all the e-mails we read.. she is in the right business.. and nicola was a gem as well.. the town, the restaurants and sites and view you will never forget.. we stayed in room 204 and will definately return.. we got in shape wallking the steps daily!!! thanks for the miracle in the mountain.

Miramare-Paradise at its best!

Just returned from our stay in Positano 9/9/04-9/13/04 great weather! Everything about this hotel is paradise! Book it as soon as possible. Great, great, location, unbelieable views, gorgeous rooms, very quiet and serene, impeccable staff (we love Rosita), what more do I need to say! It is between the beach and the top road off the inner steps (not to be confused with the busy loud steps). We already booked for next year! Lots of return customers. They make you feel like family. You feel like you are in your own Villa in Positano (my opinion-Positano is the best of all towns in the Amalfi Coast). We stayed in room 203 which was large, very pretty, with a balcony and breathtaking views. You will love it! Very romantic town and hotel!

A Must in Positano!

This hotel made our stay in Positano. The amazing view from our beautiful deck, a classically appointed bedroom and sitting room, each with vaunted ceilings, and a large and nice bathroom made it wonderful to relax at the end of our recent trip to Italy. The breakfast service was the best we had throughout our trip, and the breakfast room and lounge area with its beautiful views and airy stylish decor made our meals enjoyable. Steps are certainly formidable but it is probably impossible to do Positano without any climb, and the view of the sea is worth the effort. Finally, the hospitality and service was generally excellent and Rosita lived up to her reviews. Our one negative experience was the male desk clerk on duty each of the evenings we were there, unfortunately including the night we arrived. He was incredibly insensitive and not at all helpful but luckily Rosita arrived the next day and our room, view of the sea, and Positano itself helped diminish his presence. Absolutely a wonderful establishment!

We just returned from our honeymoon in Italy..and the Miramare was clearly amongst the highlights..room 210 is spectacular..with a porch large enough for a table and two chaises overlooking the sea.....the shower is entirely glass, so you are looking out at the sea while showering ( too far up and away for anyone to see in)...the service was wonderful......Alitalia LOST our luggage and the staff of the hotel were as helpful as possible in the attempt to recover it (which was never done....PLEASE heed this warning...ALL YOU NEED IS WHAT YOU CAN FIT IN A CARRYON!!)
Eat at La Cambusa, Buco di Bacco, La Terrazza, Chez Black for pizza and people watching, have a drink at the Sirenuse (for $12) but skip the meal there...great service, marginal food..ridiculously overpriced...but spectacularly beautiful!!...take the cab (FREE) to Montepertuso and eat at Il Ritrovo..take the boat ride Miramare offers also....Overall, the trip was terriffic!!

Fabulous Find

We spent the end of our honeymoon at the Miramare for four days. We found it to be fabulous. Rosita was the kindest, warmest, most accomodating hotel staff person we have ever met. The breakfast was delightful. The (free!) boat ride around Positano was stunning and relaxing. Our room was very clean with a fabulous view from our Terrace. Only downsides were the stairs and no pool. We were there during a heat wave and the stairs were tough. Other than that, fabulous!

Top Local Tips for Positano

Compania Wine Compania area has some very nice wines. The reds are made from Aglianico grape. We had a particularly good one from the Taurasi region. Wines in the 20-35 euro price range were all really values. Restaurant markup for local wines were around 10%, but nearly 100% for the "famous" producers like Antinori, Sassicaia, etc. So, stick to unknown local wines!

limo service definitely book driver through Rosita - Angel was our driver from Positano to Naples and he was the best. It is more expensive than some you find online but he was great and well worth it.

pottery Go to La Brezza at the bottom of the stairs near the shoe maker and beach. It looks like a clothing boutique but inside is the MOST INCREDIBLE colorful unquie pottery. I bought many pieces and wish I was able to buy more. The pottery is unlike I saw anywhere in Italy with the best prices. GO! GO! GO you will not regret it, especially if need gifts or things for yourself.
