Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Pasitea Positano
Positively The Positea
from A TripAdvisor Member
We (2 American couples) arrived by car in Positano on the Amalfi Coast of Italy on May 20, 2005 after a long travel day, taking the train from Florence to Naples and renting a car. It was dark driving the narrow roads and switchbacks through the mountainous terrain. Finally tired and hungry we entered the Best Western Positea Hotel at 10:00 pm. We were greeted by the manager–welcome to Positano, and have you had dinner yet? The manager asked us if we would like him to arrange for a car to pick us up and take us to a restaurant. Yes, we agreed, that would be wonderful! He helped us get to our rooms, had our luggage taken out of the car, told us to freshen up and meet in the lobby in 10 minutes. A car and driver was waiting to take us up the mountain to a family owned restaurant that sat on the edge of a cliff, and overlooked the Mediterranean Sea with a moon high in the sky. The owner greeted us at the door and took us over to a table at the window. The view was breathtaking. The driver of the car grilled my fish! We had a delicious relaxing 4 course dinner with the best Chianti wine. The owner came over to the table and chatted with us a few minutes during dinner. After dinner, our driver was ready and waiting to take us back to our hotel. What a beginning to our 5 days in Positano! We can’t say enough about the Positea’s service and accommodations. They actually asked, “what can we do for you today?” and then arranged for anything we wanted including a driver to Pompei one morning, a boat trip to Capri, took the time to give us specific directions on how to get somewhere, as well as recommendations on where to eat. They made you feel as though you were the only guests in the hotel, and the hotel was sold out. Positano is kissed by the sun! The Positea Hotel is hugged by the sea! I loved my 5 days there and I can’t wait to return one day. I positively recommend the Positano Hotel.
Great, friendly hotel

We have just spent 3 nights at the Pasitea and loved it. There were 8 of us with 4 rooms and they were all good. Hotel was very clean, nicely decorated, lots of blue tiles. Views from the balconies are amazing. Breakfast buffet was really good including cereal, yoghurt, ham, cheese and lots of different pastries, fruit juice and good coffee. The staff spoke good english and were incredibly helpful summoning taxis, suggesting restaurants and sorting a problem with the bathroom. They even provide kettles and teabags if you ask which we didn't have in other hotels.
The bus stops right outside the hotel and unless you really love steps you will want to use it! Fast internet access allowed the kids to keep in touch with friends etc. After long walks in the hills high above the coast. this was a welcome oasis at the end of the day.
Great Service and Great Views

After arriving there and being ripped off by the taxi driver, we explained the situation to Tony (front office) and he could not believe it, feeling sorry for us, he upgraded our room which was wonderful. We loved this place, and on return to Positano (hopefully in the near future) this will be the hotel that i will definitely be staying....Thanks heaps to the staff - especially Tony - who then even recommended Peppino's great restaurant which we went back to both nights in Positano.
Pretty good...

We stayed there for one night while on the Amalfi Coast, November 23. Hotel is clean, the lobby is very blue, not spectacular, but overall a good hotel. My wife and I were ready to go out to eat at about 8:30 (thinking that this is when dinner fires up in Italy), but the hotel said that since it was off-season, that there were not many restaurants open. The manager called a restaurant, a van picked us up, drove up the mountain for about 15 minutes, and we had a great dinner at a little family place. I would recommend this hotel.
Not Bad at all!!

My wife and I stayed in a Junior Suite for 1 night mid August. Room was clean and spacious. Balcony had an amazing and relaxing view of the cliffs and ocean. Jacuzzi is small. Not too far from the city and beach... just a 5 min. walk. However, do not ask the reception to recommend to you a restaurant since they will send you to the one next door to the hotel and you will miss out on the other restaurants in the city that have much better views and food. I highly recommend this hotel for all who travel to Positano. This hotel should be a Four Star!
Credit Card fraud by Hotel

A very bad experience. Booked to stay in a Suite for the night of Oct 12th via the Internet just 24 hours before we arrived. The room rate advertised was 140 euros for a luxury Suite, usually costing 250 Euos, suitable for 3 people. However when we arrived, we were given a very small standard double and expected to pay the same rate. After some discussion they offered us the room as a complimentary gesture - Great, or so we thought until we got home to find they had charged the full amount on our Credit Card. We are in the process of getting this fraudulent charge deducted.
Be very wary of the staff - they offered us the room free, even though we were happy to pay something, and then dishonestly charged our credit card anyway.
I would NOT reccomend Best Western Positano
Best High Quality Value

The Pasitea is located high enough for a great view and low enough to make it convenient to all of Positano. The rooms have balconies that vary in size. Larger balconies have smaller rooms and larger rooms have smaller balconies. Room 30 was a beautiful large room with a sitting area and very nice bathroom. The lobby has free breakfast and a bar for all day drinks. The staff namely the Manager, Gian Maria Talamo (also known as Georgia) was industrious, wonderful, warm, and very informative. Let her recommend the restaurants, like the Gabrisa next door which is excellent and reasonably priced, or Tagliata for food and entertainment. As a travel agent I visited several other hotels and reviewed their pricing. The price at 140 to 175 Euros depending on capacity is a bargain. Save some cheese and bread for the few orphan pups on the streets.
Great city and food, hotel so-so

We stayed at the Best Western Hotel Pasetea. The room was very clean but otherwise unremarkable. But the view from the hotel room balcony is what you pay for. It commands your attention, forces you to look again and again and makes you ask why you're isolating yourself in the room when you should be amongst the people, on the beach, in the restaurants....The staff at the hotel is very indifferent to guests, almost as though you are a ghost, seemingly invisable to them. Since I speak Italian well I realized their attitude has more to do with the fact that they regard us as transients, mere passers by, and had nothing to do with the fact that we were Americans...But Positano is about the beaches, the food, the views, the never ending stairs, and the tourists who were all very friendly, and by the way, mostly italians visiting from elsewhere in Italy.
Value for Money
from ???
We stayed for two days last month and found that the hotel is worth paying EUR265 per night. Our room was with an inside-the-room jacuzzi and a small terrace. We'd expected the jaccuzi is located on the terrace, but we now prefer the inside-the-room because of strong sunshine of Positano.
Location is very good. Not too high or not too low on the cliff in terms of the view. Fine restaurant is within a few minutes walk.
One problem is the fromt desk. Though most guests seemed from USA but only there always is one English speaker (actually two guys take turns. One guy was very frinely but...). Overall service was typical BestWestern, but, if you consider the magnificent view of Positano, the hotel is the value for money!
Friendly Staff

We chose this hotel after reading the reviews posted here. On arrival we were treated to champagne and strawberries as we were getting married in Positano a few days later. The staff were all very friendly. We especially enjoyed Georgia & Tony. The room was fine. The walls were thin due to a connecting door that was between our room and the next, but overall we were extremely happy with our choice.Great views. We were on the second floor and were please to note that the road noise outside was extremely minimal. Breakfast was continental and plentiful. You won't be disappointed.
Top Local Tips for Positano
GET A PRIVATE CAR
Considering that workers strike in Italy every other day and that there is not much difference in price, I would highly recommend hiring a private car to pick you up and take you back to Napoli airport. It is about a 1 hour drive to and from so you want a nice car with an experienced driver on the windy road to Positano. It is absolutely worth it. Ask your hotel to recommend a driver. It should be around 100 Euros each way.
Spiaggia del Fornillo
The smaller sister to Spiaggia Grande (the main beach in front of the town) is a much nicer beach. Its about 5 minutes walk around the coast and is easily one of the best beaches in the area. There are plenty of sun loungers to choose from (lounger & umbrella 7 euro each, 6 euro if you stay at Best Western Pasitea) as well as little restaurants to eat at. We spent two full days here lying in the sun - heaven!
Be prepared to walk and to climb a lot of stairs
Average fitness required if you are going to see Positano on foot.
