Clean and friendly hotel

from Wongai
A lovely little hotel in central Pompeii, clean rooms, friendly staff and not overly expensive. Within easy walking distance of Pompeii ruins and local restaurants - can recommend the Diana.

Bright and Cheerful!

from Springers
Not only is this hotel spotless, it is also cutely decorated in bright, cheerful colors. My nephew and I stayed two nights at the Hotel Diana in Pompeii, Italy, which is the town immediately adjacent to the ruins. The guide books mislead you into believing the ruins are in the middle of no where without nearby accommodations. This is untrue. The town of Pompeii surrounds the ruins on the south side and has many hotels and high quality restaurants. We felt so at home at Hotel Diana, we stayed an extra night. All the flowerily descriptions of the staff are warranted. This is a third generation hotel now run by the granddaughters of the original owner and they are beyond charming, beautiful, helpful and professional. They also speak several languages, English being among them. The hotel is ¾ mile from the entrance of the ruins of Pompeii and one very short block from the train station. Be careful about which train station you take, however. From Naples, you need to get off at the station one stop short of the ruins and take the other train to the town of Pompeii. Otherwise, you end up at a train station north of the northern entrance to the ruins and too far to travel to the hotel on foot. Also religiously guard your purse or pack in the Naples train station when changing trains.

Hotel Diana is smartly decorated with a lovely little patio, cappuccino bar and small lobby. The breakfast consists of gourmet cereal, pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice, tea, coffee and cheese. Mattresses are comfortable and the sheets are high quality cotton ironed to perfection.

If you are disabled, stay on the first floor as there is no elevator. The first floor is very quiet, even though rooms are adjacent to the lobby. Also, there is no computer on site for guest use but next to the ruins is a charming tourist information booth with three computers for public use at a cost of 6 euros per hour. I wish we had dedicated more time to stay at Hotel Diana and explore the Amalfi Coast. It would make a great base for other excursions.

Clean and comfortable

from BukkenBruse
A small, clean and comfortable hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Our children slept in a bunkbed in the same room as us, which gave us room to move although the room had beds for a family of four. There was a TV lounge and a coffee bar immediately outside the room, which allowed us to leave the room after we had put the children to bed.
For breakfast, we were offered an Espresso, in addition to the American coffee already made available on the breakfast buffet. The only problem we encountered was that there was not much food for my diabetic daughter. She ended up eating bread and butter, as there were no other suitable alternatives. However, I have a feeling that they would have accommodated for her, if we had asked. Also, while we absolutely loved the pizza restaurant recommended by the receptionist, we did not enjoy the food and service at the other recommeded restaurant, which is situated a left turn, then a right turn from the hotel (cannot remember the name).

The hotel is only a 10 minute walk away from the Pompei ruins and a couple of minutes walk away from the train station (FFSS). If you arrive on the Circumvesuviana, the hotel is a 7 minute walk away from the Pompeii Santurio stop. Look out when you buy the train tickets in Napoli. Although, I said we were going to Pompeii, I was given tickets for a three hour ride (it takes about 40 minutes to get there). Furthermore, the man who sold me the tickets held some money back and quickly handed me the note he had "forgotten" to give me when I returned to the ticket counter.

Great place to stay. Friendly staff!

I chose this hotel after talking to Laura by email. She is the friendliest person you ever meet.

We used to hotel Diana as a home for two weeks. The staff here were a real treat, we were made to feel like VIPs.

We got married in Pompeii, Italy and I must say that everyhing was perfect. From the church to the hotel to the reception.

Thank you,
A and L

excellent value, clean, friendly

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned to the US from a 7 day stay at the Hotel Diana, Pompeii. Laura and the entire staff were very friendly and fullfilled all our requests. The hotel is clean, with marble stairs and floors. Very European and the rooms are small by US standards, but are adequate. There is no elevators and there are four floors in the hotel. Therefore a room on the first floor is preferred if you hate hauling luggage up marble stairs. There is a wonderful breakfast served in the basement every morning until 0900 hrs, great pastries, cereal, juices, coffees, etc. The hotel is located on an alley and parking is very limited. Our rental car was difficult to park in the small spaces provided, so unless you are an excellent driver with nerves of steel and really good insurance, or just enjoy rubbing mirrors with Italian drivers, DO NOT RENT A CAR !!! The train station is approximately 100 yards from the front door of the hotel and you can travel anywhere you need to go from here. Walking is the best means of transportation, as the hotel is only 3 blocks from the main piazza and shopping, restaurants, are located all around the area. Ask Laura or any of the desk staff to give you the names of the best local restaurants. Pepinos was excellent and is located down an alley 1 block from the hotel towards the church in the piazza. Order the veal with the house red wine. The local wines are as good as most that you will find on most wine lists. Eat outside as often as possible, as most restaurants do not have air conditioning and the nights are comfortable right now.

Perfect peace at La Pace!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My party of four men all aged around 70 stayed here for two nights, occupying two twin rooms. We could not fault the hotel - the rooms were clean and quiet, the breakfast was good, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the shaded patio area was a blessing in the 80's temperature - although a little basic. The free on-site parking was also helpful. Would definitely return, and recommend without reservation (if you see what I mean!)

lovely hotel

from denhannah
Wonderful little hotel, very clean, extremely friendly and helpful staff, idealy situated. Highly recommended.

Great Value

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is a great value. The rooms are modern and immaculate - I think the hotel has been recently renovated. The staff were very friendly and helpful, offering advice about restaurants and tours. Most spoke very good English. The hotel is very conveniently located - close to the ancient Pompeii site, close to the Cathedral and shopping area, and close to the train station. The free parking was also a bonus.

Loved the Diana

from A TripAdvisor Member
Pompeii was our second stop on our 19 day trip to Italy. We were very pleased with this nice little hotel.
It is located about two minutes from the termini station, but not near the main entrance of the ruins. There are two entrances to the Pompeii ruins and this hotel is at the back entrance, which is inconvenient. That is my only complaint.
The room was clean, the employees at the front desk were more than helpful and the breakfast was lovely.

Great hotel

from Madtowntravelgirl
Our family (two adults and three children) stayed at the Hotel Diana for one night in April. It served as a wonderful base for our explorations of the ruins, only a ten-minute walk away. Naples is also easy to get to by bus. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful and friendly; they also spoke good English. Our two rooms were spotless, comfortable, and pleasantly decorated. However, we didn't much like the pizza place near the train station that they recommended for dinner.

Top Local Tips for Pompei

Taxis Beware of taxis from the airport, they charge double what it shows on the meter as they say you have to pay for their return trip, very different to the UK. Cost us 75 euro! Take the main train line, getting the ALIBUS from the airport to the Garibaldi Piazza, then the main line, not the Circumvesuviana, but the Ferrovie dello Stato. Its about 20 mins and costs 6 euros. To get the ALIBUS back to the airport, come out of the train station turn right and you will see a MacDonalds, the bus stop is outside and not in the main bus station.

Don't miss the National Archaeological Museum of Naples Many of the treasures recovered from the Pompeii and Herculaneum ruins were moved here so that they can be better preserved. You can't visit Pompeii without seeing the original mosaics and other artifacts that were found in the ruins, in particular the mosaics and frescos are pretty amazing up close. Since few of the exhibits have English explanations, a guide book would be handy. If you are staying in Pompeii, best way to get to the museum is by train to Naples (about 1 hour) and then the metro to the museum (2 metro stops).

best place to buy pottery on the Amalfi coast go to Vietri sul Mare first; it has a better selection and better prices. The hotel staff recommended this place and it is definitely the best place to look.
