Top Local Tips for Pisa

Bus to the leaning tower The bus to the Tower and the Duomo leaves from just around the corner from the hotel. Buy a ticket in the newsagent at the train station (it's cheaper than on the bus). The bus is the 'rosso line' ie it has a red stripe (others have different colours). Catch it from the stop outside the Hotel Jolly. Validate your ticket in the machine onboard, and the journey takes 5-10 minutes. You will see where to get off easily - you can't miss it.

One good one bad Had dreadful experience at cafe Dantesca in Piazza Dante Allighieri near the Uni. Horribly expensive with 2 coffees 10e and a pretty dismal meal. Staff not interested despite or perhaps because of the fixed 15% service charge. We would not normally have gone to a place like this but arrived late evening on Sunday when most were closed. On the other hand cannot speak too highly of Trattoria della Faggiola in Via della Fagiolla 1--take the NW exit from piazza dei Cavelieri thru the arch turn L at T-junction. We had 3 great courses with wine, coffee and water for 25e each. The owner was a great chap and we had a good conversation with him despite our individual language barriers and he brought out a bottle of his favourite Sardinian wine to share with us.
