Great friendly staff, very helpful, myself and husband stayed for a couple of days, reasonably priced Bed and Breakfast. The hotel is very close to trains, airport, buses. There is a tour bus near the train station, tickets can be brought from the hotel for the two of us cost 30 Euros, which takes you to the historical places of Pisa, appx 45min journey, runs every hour. There is also shuttle service offered to and from Airport with small fee. Nice breakfast. Will stay there again if travelling to Pisa, La Pace made our stay pleasant.

ideal base for visiting other places

from A TripAdvisor Member
stayed at hotel la pace for 4 days. easy enough to get a bus from airport which took about 15-20 mins. it drops you literally a minute from hotel but when you get off bus go right, around corner and dont do what we did, went left and walked round in circle. also close to train station, went to florence, & viareggio by train, very cheap.
breakfast consisted of boiled eggs, cheese, ham, cereal and mini danish type pastries. food was ok.
rooms were basic but just right size, bed was squeaky tho and view from window wasnt great. tower of pisa is about a 20 minute walk. this hotel is ideal to use as a base if you fancy visiting other cities like we did.
couldnt find a restaurant open on the tues, its their night off and there are no pubs as such, even the cafe bars shut about 9pm. watch beer prices as we got ripped off cos we didnt ask price first, 7 euro for a beer!!

Good location, but had problems with a squeaky bed!

from JoanieCat
Spent two nights here during July 2005 as part of a 5-week trip across 3 countries in Europe. The hotel was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. However, our room had a rather squeaky bed. We were quartered on the 4th floor. Given that we were very tired, we fell asleep readily on the first night, despite the situation. The mattress sagged on my husband's side. I did not know this until the second morning. If I were aware of it, I would have demanded another room. I feel that staff would have accommodated that request. I am an Italian speaker and my husband said he didn't say anything to me because he did not want to cause me any problems. I was the one who handled all accommodations on this trip. This was the only problem we encountered in Italy.
Breakfast was very good and an assortment of breads, yogurt, fruit, pasteries, etc. were available. You can cook your own eggs in a poacher if desired.
We felt that the surroundings were nice. The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the train station. The Field of Miracles sights are an easy walk for those used to walking.
The hotel offers a shuttle service to the airport and we took advantage of that. It was low cost and a very short and comfortable ride.
We would probably stay here again, but would check out the bed to be sure we were not put onto a badly sagging mattress that squeaked!

Good value for money

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is undergoing renovation and the rooms are clean and well decorated with newly refurbished en suite facilities. The rooms are small and do not offer a great view as the hotel is part of a block of flats/office/shops in town. However it is only five minurtes walk from the station and within easy walking distance of the main attractions in Pisa. The buffet breakfast is good value and for a one or two night stopover in Pisa is worth considering for the price.

limited options in Pisa... but this could be one!

from MyLSD
We arrived in Pisa in the late evening so the city was dark and when we walked across the train station towards the hotel, it looked a bit shady. To my surprise, the hotel was very nice and spacious inside.

The young lady at the front desk was so helpful. I believe her name was Marta. The breakfast provided was also one of the better breakfasts offered amongst the three different cities/hotels we stayed in in other parts of Italy.

Location for this hotel was everything. Fortunately, Pisa is a small place, so everything truly was in walking distance. It probably took us 20 minutes to walk over to the leaning tower. This string of shops is located less than 5 minutes away as well.

Unusally, something in our room was setting of my boyfriend's allergy/asthma symptoms, so we had a little trouble sleeping through the night. The walls area also very thin and therefore we were also rudely awoken by some couple getting busy somewhere above us.

Value for Money

from Purejammy
Spent three nights at Hotel La Pace. It's only 50 metres from the main entrance to Pisa railway station, so couldn't be better located for those arriving by train. Entrance is down an arcade of shops, which although not the most attractive, was well lit and easy to find. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful - which can't be said for all hotels!

Our room on the third floor was nicely decorated, very clean and had the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept in for a long time. As we faced the back, it was quiet at night. Certainly no train noise. AC in the room was functional, but maybe a little underpowered, given the high temperatures in Pisa. Bathroom was small, with shower over bath, which might pose some problems if you have mobility problems. But perfectly adequate and, more importantly, clean. Another reviewer mentioned the "tablecloth" towels - they're the thin non-pile italian type and dry you as well as any other towel. They were changed every day, along with the other linen.

Breakfast was standard Italian fare. Ham. cheese, muesli, fruit juice and lots of coffee.

Walking to the Tower takes about 20 minutes from the hotel, straight across town and the river. Unless you stop for a drink at the many cafes you encounter on the way, when it can take significantly longer!

In summary, if you remember that you're staying in a three star (and not a five star) hotel, the Hotel La Pace is excellent. Friendly, clean, quiet and well located - it's certainly value for money compared with many other hotels I've stayed in.

not a three-star hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
stayed there for one night after a real three-star hotel in florence. it was pretty easy to find and the people there were nice. but overall, the place is just scuzzy. the entrance is down a dirty walkway. the room seemed clean, but you had the feeling that there was deep down grime there. the bed was truly awful, as were the pillows. the bar area and breakfast were pluses -- plentiful and available. overall, a good redecorating job is definitely needed. stay elsewhere.

Long Weekend 10 - 13 December 2004

from A TripAdvisor Member
having just been to pisa for the weekend with the missus and 2 kids must say hotel was gr8. very clean, breakfast good just dont arrive at breakfast late. location was perfect walking distance to everything even with the kids. taxi from the station cost 7 euros, and yes you could walk. we got the train back (station 2 mins walk from the hotel) and for the 4 of us it cost 3.30 euros amd took 5 mins goes from platform 14.
Plenty of places to eat good food just check your prices before ordering especially if not displayed, we got caught out just the once.

Suits Its Purpose

The La Pace is right by the train station so is a decent bet if you are leaving or arriving by train and/or airport either early or late in the day, since the airport is linked by a bus that goes to the station and by train as well. As another review noted, it's a little hard to find the entrance, tucked inside a shopping gallery. I don't think it's the nicest part of town after dark, but the hotel has security. It's a moderate but easy walk to the Leaning Tower. There is also convenient bus service.

The room was good-sized for European tourist standards. The towels were more like tablecloths (seems somewhat common in Italian hotels), and not the terry cloth towels we normally like.

Worth a visit

from David-QPS
I stayed at this hotel in September 2004 with my wife, son and his girlfriend. We had a suite which is basically a two room unit. The entry leading to the hotel is a bit misleading. It looks a bit dingy and dirty but when you turn into the hotel entry, things pick up a bit.

The room itself was functional albeit a little run down eg: door unable to close, door jam loose. As with most European hotels there is no coffee/tea making facilities or refrigerator. The breakfast provided was an above average buffet but no hot eggs/bacon etc was provided.

The staff were very helpful and spoke good English. Cost was competitive compared with others in the area (130 euro for 4 people).

On confererence in Pisa

Average hotel. You get what you pay for. We were four sharing a room (me, my wife, my wife's female friend and another friend of mine), and the single bathroom tended to get crowded and a bit awkward, since the bathroom entry was from the master bedroom. (which me and my wife took). The bathroom door is the type with a window in it (frosted?) and made you feel you were on display in an aquarium. The beds creaked. A lot. No funny business there!

Being scandinavians we eat a big breakfast, something the italian owners weren't prepared for. We finished of a cheese our second day, and then there weren't any more until a few days later. Most italians only have a quick espresso and possibly a croissant. We had several sandwiches and a few mugs of coffee. Each. Every day. The larder, I guess, was emptied out pretty quick. The italian guests just stared at us... The older governor at the hotel tended to be a bit grumpy, as he for instance refused to speak english to a (maybe over-zealous) american woman demanding stuff, but hey, maybe it was not his fault.

My communication with him tended to be somewhat more at ease, since I tried to speak italian with him, which was rewarding in hind-sight. My native language is romanian, which quite like italian, so I didn't have to much trouble after a few aclimatizing.

The location is ok, close to one of the several centers of the city.
The tower isn't to far away, maybe 15 min. The railway station (to Florence) is some 200m away, across the street. So is the local McD-restaurant. However, I do NOT recommend McD, since even the fastest fast-food store serves a better-tasting and cheaper meal. I still can't forget the fact that the hole-in-the-wall-fast-food-joint served a gnochi with tomato-sauce that is to this day unsurpassed. And it was cheaper than a Big Mac.

Get an umbrella. before leaving for Pisa. Or buy one from the myriad peddlers on the street.

Parking a car outside the hotel is difficult. The parking spots are always taken. And so are the non-parking spots.
