A great experience. The staff were incredibly helpful, the room lovely and the breakfast excellent. The rate was also highly very fair. We would certainly go back and would not hesitate to recommend it.(We find it hard to understand how two of the other reviews can be so negative, it's as if they were at a different place!)

The staff seem to hate the fact that you are in their hotel and city. I left after 1 day and spent the remaining 3 at MYHOTELS.

This hotel had sold on our prebooked and confirmed room and sent us - on arrival at 1.30 am - to an entirely unsuitable alternative hotel at a time of night when it was not possible to arrange a better option. The staff at reception, including one who claimed to be the manager, gave the impression of being somewhat amused at our dissatisfaction and request for an explanation. As frequent travellers world wide and users of hotels for many years for business and vacations the attitude of this hotel has to be placed on record and I would not recommend it when there are other options available. We insisted on having nights two and three of ourreservation there to get away from ythe hotel they had put us in and can only describe it as adequate and not providing the promise of a stylish old hotel in their advetising. The staff do need to understand that a superior Italian attitude to customers may not be welcome to the customer and may not be good for return business.

Perfect Location

I stayed here with my boyfriend and it was brilliant! Such an excellent location, because it's inbetween the Tower and the Station which are both an enjoyable 10-15 minutes walk away. There is a lovely restaurant opposite which is great if you're feeling lazy after a day of walking around Pisa!

The staff were friendly and the rooms were spotless. The breakfast buffet was delicious. They constantly bring out fresh food so the croissants are still warm and taste wonderful!

We both loved Pisa, everyone was so laid back and really helpful when we were struggling with our Italian phrase book!

I would highly recommend this hotel & Pisa to anyone!

P.S. ALL THE RESTAURANTS IN PISA (THAT WE WENT TO) ARE COMPLETELY NON-SMOKING. (Even as a smoker myself, I had to admit that this made them much nicer)

lovely hotel, great location

The hotel is recently refurbished to a high standard. It is 10 minutes walk from the railway station and 10 minutes walk from the tower (in opposite directions). It's a couple of minutes walk from the main shopping street. The staff were friendly and helpful and their restaurant recommendation was excellent.

A hidden Gem

Family rooms are difficult to find in Europe. Using the TripAdvisor ratings I found the Bologna hotel and my family of four was not disappointed. It’s a three star hotel striving to be a four! I only wished I’d based my entire Tuscany trip from The Bologna and ventured into Florence and environs by day and back to peaceful Pisa by night. The room is located off the walking street with access to all the shops and restaurants available. The room was large by European standards with the 2 singles beds in a separate room off of the main area which had a queen bed and plenty of storage. The décor was modern, furniture new and very clean throughout--a very welcoming atmosphere. If I had to compare by US standards it would be quite close to a new Fairford Inn or Executive suites in price and accommodation. The bathroom was large and very modern with all the accessories. The breakfast provided was exceptional—traditional Italian breads with added meats, cheese, yogurt, and even US and muesli cereals with friendly service. Parking was convenient and readily available for only 10 Euros. The hotel site is about fifteen minutes stroll from the leaning tower and the path leading there is easily walk-able--on Saturdays countless vendors line the streets selling every imaginable curio you’d care to peruse. Bottom line: It would be hard to find a better 3 star hotel in Pisa or Florence for twice the room rate.

all was clean and very nice staff. it was a pleasant stay there. Parking had two choices. the hotel had it's own parking lot or you could get a permit for less money that the staff would issue for the street, it was not a problem.

we even left them a letter of appreciation.
true, they wanted the passports(frieghtening!) but the suit was excellent, the breakfast very tasty,and the stuff very helpfull with the parking and tour planning in Pisa.

Functional but impersonal

This hotel is comfortable, 20 mins walk from the Centre of the city, 15 mins from the train station.
The rooms are clean and well fitted with good aircon.
We found the staff to be brusque, bordering on rude. On checking in, they insisted on retaining our passports, to be returned later in the evening. When we asked for them back, the (night) receptionist was most unhelpful.
We had to depart at 7am for the airport on the shuttle they provide (5Eur each) and missed breakfast. No alternative or compensation was offered, although breakfast was included in the price.

Friendly, convenient hotel

We stayed for three nights while we explored Pisa and Florence. The Hotel Bologna is very conveniently located, with friendly staff and clean, comfortable rooms. The hotel is located on a quiet street, and has parking available if you arrive with a car.

There was a good variety of breakfast food to suit most tastes (no hot dishes.) There are very good restaurants and cafes nearby for lunch and dinner, and the staff will give recommendations and directions.

Although the hotel does not supply hairdryers in the rooms, they had some at the desk which could be borrowed as needed.

The hotel offers a shuttle to the airport, but the bus stops just down the street from the hotel, and is a very easy and economical alternative unless you have loads of luggage.

All in all, this was a nice hotel at a good price. We would stay there again.

Convenient Hotel

We stayed at this hotel in late July for 2 nights. It was an ideal location as it was not too far from the railway station for our train journey onto Florence, and just behind a main street full of shops. The hotel was located in a quiet street, and the room we had was very very basic, although the bathroom was very nice! We had problem sleeping as the air conditioning was not powerful enough as you can hardly noticed it was on. Breakfast was good with a good selection and receptionist was very helpful. I would stay at this hotel again, but if its during the summer , I would recommend that you request for a room where the air conditioning is strategically positioned and not in our case in the corner opposite the bathroom door.

We stayed here for just one night as we arrived late at the airport and just wanted to see the leaning tower before heading off to the Tuscan countryside. Our son was "wowed" by the luxury of the room. We liked the proximity to the airport, parking and breakfast and it was just a 15 minute walk to the Duomo the next day. Excellent.

Good Hotel

Hotel room was clean, the a/c worked - breakfast was very basic nothing great...hotel has a shuttle from the Pisa centrale...however it costs 8 euros beware they do not tell you...it is a good idea to ask the price before you consume anything (service or other) anywhere in Italy...It is about 20 mins walk to the tower and attractions but it is a nice walk...when you eat outside check the price on the menu against what is actually billed - for eg., a can of coke could be listed as 2 euros on the menu, but they may charge you more on the actual bill - not just in Pisa but anywhere in Italy (ROME)...they also include a cover charge to seat you in their restaurant....

Top Local Tips for Pisa

TAKE A TRAIN TRIP DO TAKE A DAY TRIP TO SIENA CHANGE TRAINS AT EMPOLI BUT REMEMBER ALWAYS STAMP YOUR TICKET

Cheap Bus/Train Buses and trains are very cheap in Tuscany. The Train station is at the airport and is then 10 minute walk to the hotel. The buses are frequent and cost 90 cents each and the bus stops literally outside the hotel. May not be easy to locate on arrival (as you won't know where the hotel is!), but certainly on your way back to the airport, cross the road (one way street) and they run every 10 minutes. Taxi cost us 10 euro from airport to Hotel on arrival.

24 hour trip from Gatwick Now that Easy Jet have started daily flghts from Gatwick to Pisa, this is a fabulous 24 hour break for anyone in the Gatwick area. They leave just after lunch and land late afternoon local time. Just right for dropping your bags off at your hotel and going for a wander around before a great meal. The next morning clamber the tower (Book this in advance), Explore the campo dei miracoli and have a leisurely lunch. After a quick spot of shopping you can head back to the airport and catch the late afternoon flight back home again and be back in Blighty before 8pm. Perfect.
