Romantic gothic castle
Hard to find but well worth the effort, this neo-gothic style castle lies hidden on a darkly wooded umbrian hillside about a quarter of an hour from Perugia. In spite of several conversations with hotel staff for directions,it took several attempts to find it. When we finally arrived it was enchanting. That night there was a wedding complete with scottish bagpipes which added an eerie faerie quality to the place. The public rooms are exceptional especially the library, which guests are encouraged to look at, replete with old books and the small panelled dining room. The bedrooms themselves are furnished in the old style with loving attention to detail, some are more luxurious than others, but all give you the impression of being fortunate guests in a private stately home.
The restaurant is worth mentioning for its incredible food and ambiance, very refined top notch local cuisine and wines and excellent service. The breakfast includes some wonderful home made cakes and pastries.
