April 2006 I spend my honeymoon in Sicilia. I booked 4 days Ucciardhome Hotel in Palermo directly via internet. When we entered in the room we were badly surprised. The room was very small and we never expected a room WITHOUT A WINDOW. We decided to go for a walk to stay with a positive attitude in these special days of the life of someone. Nobody from the front desk asked us if we liked the room. Palermo is a wonderful city, but it is also very stressful. After a day walking trough it you wish a nice place to rest. But in this shoe box you fill easily claustrophobia. The night was also horrible, we couldn’t sleep well and my wife was having some nightmares related to the prison in front of the hotel and I promised her to look for a different accommodation the next day. The breakfast is align with the size of the room, we were able to chose between bread with ham and a croissant, but as the amount was one of each we could not choose both the same. The cappuccino that was served was more like water than coffee. The tables in the breakfast desk are also so small, that you feel the back of the person at the next table. We spend the day looking for a different place, when we finally got it, we returned to the Ucciardhome Hotel (at 7 pm) and advice in the reception that we wanted to leave the next morning. The hotels reply was, we would have to pay one day extra if we want to leave. I couldn’t believe the answer, specially having in mind the publicity of the hotel. We requested to talk to someone responsible but nobody was available neither on the phone. We requested to have a room with window and the answer was: There was only a room for 3 persons available and we wouldn’t get it. We were told us, that we should speak the next morning with the Chief of Reception. After a horrible night were the mosquitoes were biting us and a joke from some children knocking at our door, to make fun out of our “do not disturb” label., they confirmed, we were suppose to pay a penalty of Eur 160. It is not foreseen that we return to Palermo in the near future, but what for us is sure, we would never stay in the Ucciardhome Hotel again.
