I went in august this year to naples and stayed in the hotel san germano - admittedly there is not a lot around the hotel, but the hotel does offer a free shuttle bus service now which will drop you in naples centre or the harbour in the morning and does a pickup in the late afternoon. The hotel was clean and the staff are helpful but it helps to talk some italian as not all of them talk any other language and if they do then very little. Don't expect to go here and for it to all be westernised as it isn't. The bars are not like pubs etc in england. The italians go out late and eat slowly and have a few drinks to accompany their meal. The food is also not like burgers and chips, theyeat a lot of seafood, pasta etc. Be brave though and try the different dishes - you may find that you actually enjoy them! There is a good pizzeria in Agnano - just down the road from the hotel which is worth going to - the food is beautiful and the staff are helpful. Some pickpocketing and begging happens in italy but the unemployment rates are high which is why this happens - don't go round scared though because of the few that do it - use a sensible bag or bumbag and stick to the main roads - avoid backstreets. I recommend arranging tours through the hotel - they do tours out to Capri, sorrento, almafi coast etc which are beautiful. I wouldn't stay in those areas as the prices are astronomical - it was cheaper me staying at the hotel san germano and paying for the excursions. Most things are reasonably priced but do barter - you can always get things cheaper of you do. I would love to go back to Italy - I loved Naples and the surrounding areas and I would recommend it any day.

Top Local Tips for Naples
Pizzeria Da Michele Da Michele -Via Cesare Sersale 1-3 - Tucked away off Corso Umberto I in the Forcella district, this is the most traditional of all the Naples pizzerias, offering just two varieties marinara and margherita. Don't arrive late as it is very popular and can run out of dough. Only 4.50 euro per big pizza!!!!!!
PATIENCE Remember, Naples is unique and is a large city with some large problems. She beyond the frantic driving and occasional trash problem. The people of Naples are warm, friendly and will show you the best time once you get to know them.
