Top Local Tips for Naples

Getting to Pompeii/Sorrento Take the Circumvesuviana. This is the local commuter street car that is a great deal and goes to the Pompeii ruins and into downtown Sorrento. The price is right, it goes to both these towns and it is a great way to mix with the Napoli residents. If going to Sorrento and taking the taxi, remember that it is a flat rate of 12 Euros irregardless of distance. Check a map for your hotel before leaving because you may ride for 2 blocks for 12 Euros when it would have been cheaper, faster and easier to walk. The taxidriver won't tell you that your hotel is only around the corner!

Museum Do go to Naples museum it has all the mosaic from Pompeii

Just stay away from Naples, OK? It's hard to comprehend a dirtier city outside Kenya or Nigeria. Naples is a giant slum covered with graffiti. There are thousands of piles of dog poop on the sidewalks, ankle deep litter and piled up garbage on the corners while scattered pieces of paper float in the air.The buildings are unpainted and falling apart while you watch. This is an utterly charmless area of the world and if you must see Pompeii pass up Naples and stay in Sorrento or Pompeii itself. One has to wonder what happened to the city government that would allow such a dreadful place to exist. The only solution would be to bulldoze the entire city to bare earth. exile the citizens, and start all over.
