Historical Traveller Reviews of Milano Hilton Hotel

Quality Hotel near the Station

from Alx-UK
For some reason I agreed to take my wife, two teenage daughters and my credit cards to Milan for the weekend.

Looking on the Hilton website I found they were offering a
Get Together rate with 50% off the price of a second room so I booked two rooms for three nights (Fri - Mon).

The hotel is close to the central railway station which is where the Malpensa Shuttle bus terminates (around 1hr from the airport) and if you walk out of the front of station and turn right the Hilton is about 3 minutes walk. If you walk out of the side of the station and turn left it takes much longer and you see more of Milan but I would not recommend this having tried it on a hot day with luggage.

There is a dedicated check-in for HHonours members and as a Gold Card holder I was offered a complimentary upgrade to Executive rooms on the 8th floor.

The rooms were specious with good quality finishing and look like they had been refurbished recently. The children were happy to have their own room and some independence for our stay.

Both rooms had balconies facing the street although the children’s room balcony was very small. Each room had a mini bar, safe plenty of storage space, a/c and black out curtains which did not help when getting the children out of bed in the morning.

The beds were firm but comfortable and I have stayed in many 5* hotels where the rooms were of a much lower standard.

On the Executive floor you have access to the Executive lounge via your room key and this offered a range of hot and cold drinks including wine and spirits as well as cold snacks and pastries.

There were also tables outside the Executive Lounge on a balcony area that gave a good place to unwind after a day of shopping.

Breakfast offered a good selection of hot and cold food in an open and relaxed setting including a cappuccino to start the day.

Although the underground system in Milan is very cheap as there were four of us we used taxis and a trip from the hotel to the Duomo or Via Montenapoleone was around 8 Euros each way with a tip. There were always one or two taxis waiting outside the hotel and all of the taxis we got into knew the Hilton Via Luigi Galvani

The area around the central station is a little intimidating at night with a hundred or so people with nowhere better to go sitting around drinking but if you can get past them there is an internet cafe on the other side of the station next to the McDonalds. The hotel has full WiFi if you bring your own laptop and I think there was a pc in the Executive Lounge but I did not use it.

As we went in August we expected many of the shops would not been open due to the summer holiday but in reality only around 10% of the shops were closed and they were mostly the smaller family run specialist retailers.

If you are looking for somewhere within walking distance of the historic centre this is not a good choice but if you are looking for a high quality international hotel and are happy to use taxis or the underground then I would recommend the Hilton.

Nice hotel

from 789Snow
I stay at the hotel for 2 nights with my friends last week. The location is good which is very close to the train station. If you will be traveling to the city by train, it's a very good choice for you. Also, there's a airport coach stop beside the train station too which make the transport in and out the airport very easily. The hotel staffs who help our check in and out are both pretty good and helpful. Only the staff at the concierge desk is not that helpful. Make sure to ask for room up-grade and higher room floor if you are their HHonur member, they might get you the up grade if they have the availability. Breakfast is good, buffet style, a lot fresh fruit too. Overall, we like our stay.

Nice Hilton Hotel

We stayed here only one night before our flight home to New York, but we very much enjoyed our stay. After 2 weeks of staying in Italian hotels with two twin matresses pushed together to make a "double" bed, it was wonderful to have a American king sized bed again. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the location to the train station made it easy for us to get to the airport the next morning. For someone staying in Milan for to sightsee, however, the location near the train station is somewhat seedy and scary at night (even for us New Yorkers). The hotel is a typical Hilton Hotel that you can find in any American city, so it's not for anyone looking for a quaint little European hotel. However,if you want a comfortable hotel and easy access to the airport, this hotel will do the trick.

Great hotel in a wonderful location

We stayed for 2 nights in May and found the hotel to be well located best location to the train station and easy to get around

Super Stay

from Rtid
Stayed at the Hilton for 4 days over the bank holiday weekend. I've stayed in the Hilton before, but this was by far the best visit. Executive lounge was well worth it. You get a big room anyway, but the executive lounge is like an extension to your room. There is always food available and the drinks are nice a cold! There is a TV, sofa and newspapers which is handy.

Staff were excellent. Multi-lingual and very friendly, they made our stay smooth. Anytime you ask for something (iron/power converter) its delievered to your door within minutes. We also got a free bottle of bubbly and a cake as it was my birthday - nice little suprise there!

The hotel is right next to the Central Railway station - so you're 4 subway stops from Dumo and you're right next to the shuttle service to/from Maplensa airport which was very handy. We walked to the center of Milan regularly, it took around 20/25minutes - taxi back was no more than 10 euros. Good location as you're not trapped right in the middle of Milan, excellent hotel and staff.

Simply... enjoyed it!

I was in Hilton Milan last week... one of the few international hotels in the city.

The hotel is easy to reach from the airport with the shuttle bus to the central station. It's located just two blocks away from the train station. The area is a business district but also easy to reach the Duomo with the underground... so good location!

The rooms are comfortable and clean. Good and friendly service at the bar. They have really good snacks! The restaurant also has a very nice selection of pizzas... worth a try!

Great Location, Great Concierge

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed here for part of Springbreak, three nights. The location was fantastic. Just a block from the Central rail station. The neighborhood had some great local restaurants that had great food and super atmosphere. The bed was a little hard and the breakfast was extremely expensive. Make sure you book a room with breakfast included. Other than that there were no other complaints. Would stay here again.

Bad service for so called business hotel

from PhilippaL
I stayed recently and was really disappointed about the bad level of service for a "business" hotel. Lots of basic things were just not covered ie wake up calls not arriving, laundry not being collected, breakfast not being delivered, reasonable but incrediably expensive food. This is really not the type of service that you would expect when you are paying €300 per night.

A happy surprise

from AlkiGreece
We stayed at the Milan Hilton, just for one night on December 25th 2005, in two interconnecting rooms with our two young children. We used our member points and our stay was a great surprise.
We were given rooms at the executive floor that had all the amenities and were very spacious. The service was very good and the room quality excellent.
We had dinner in the hotel and the pizza and pasta were one of the best we ever had. Also the breakfast buffet was huge and there was a variety of croissants, ham, cheese, fruits, cereals, even Nutella!
My husband used the gym and he was very satisfied.
My only complaint has to do with the concierge. We asked him what would be open, due to the christmas holiday, and he sent us to a store before calling to see if it was actually open. So we walked, with two young kids for quite sometime and then we found out that it was actually closed.
Nevertheless the whole experience of the Hilton Milan stay remains very positive.

Convenient and good value

from RJB
Milan hotels are not cheap. The Hyatt in Milan is three times the price of the one in Hamburg, for instance, for almost identical rooms. Since there is little of quality in the centre for under Euro 400, we decided not to waste our money and downgraded to the Hilton.

This is not a bad choice. It is next to Central Station, so ideal if you are arriving by train or need to catch the regular buses to Malpensa. From Linate its a Euro 15 cab ride. Most importantly, it is 2 minutes walk to the metro from where it is only four stops to Duomo or three stops to the boutiques on Via Manzoni. The metro is Euro 1 per ride.

Room furnishings were above average, with decent bathrooms - albeit more like a posh Holiday Inn than a five star. Insist on a B&B package. The buffet breakfast is not too bad, but at Euro 27 is extortionately expensive (our room was only Euro 145 which luckily included breakfast for two). The executive lounge is very sterile but has a good selection of newspapers, drinks and snacks and is open at weekends. The bar is in the lobby and was always busy. The restaurant is uninspiring with slow staff, but the food was OK.

There is no business centre. There is 1 PC in the lobby and 1 in the lounge, at a ludicrous 55 cents per minute, with a 15 minute minimum. You'll find ti cheaper to visit the internet cafe 5 minutes walk away opposite the station, next to McDonalds. The hotel has no pool but there is a small basement fitness room. Overall, you won't be raving about the Hilton Milan on your return, but it does the job and is not badly priced compared to the rest of Milan.

Top Local Tips for Milan

Book a tour to see Milan and The Last Supper painting. You risk not seeing the Last Supper painting unless you are with a tour group.

Best gelato in Milan - Gelateria Rinomata In my opinion best gelato (ice-cream) in Milan can be found in Gelateria Rinomata, Ripa di Porta Ticinese 11

Underground The metro in Milan costs €3.00 for 24 hours. Not just a day pass. Absolutely the best value public transport in Europe!
