You get what you pay for

I needed a hotel to stay in for one night since I was arriving very late at night and leaving early the next day by train out of Milan. I wanted a hotel right next to the train station and one that was inexpensive. I got this for 50 euro, and I am glad I didn't pay more. The lobby seemed nice, but the room was awful. As i was checking in, someone was on the phone with the clerk complaining about the air conditioning not working in their room. The clerk just kept saying that it has air conditioning and it works. I had requested a single room, non smoking. I got a triple room, smoking. All three beds were very uncomfortable, and the room was very stinky. The air conditioning did not work in my room either. I opened the window to cool down and to try to get rid of the stink, but it was so incredibly noisey that I just had to shut it and deal with the stink. The hotel is in a busy part of town, so the room I was in heard a lot of street noise, and I am surprised how loud it was. I live on a loud street in Los Angeles and can take some noise, but this was MUCH louder. After a very long flight, you want to rest! Plus there is construction going on outside, so when you open the window, you are right on top of the scaffolding which is covered in dirt and debris and trash. So maybe it is better to keep the window closed.I could not figure out how to use the phone and call the front desk. The shower/bath was the kind where you hold the shower head and there is no wall or curtain, so you have to sit in the tub in order not to get water everywhere. at least the hot water worked, but they have rusty pipes and you can see the rust stains and a bit of brown water when you first turn on the faucet. I set my alarm clock to the clock in the room. When I woke up, i checked my phone and realized it was not the same as my alarm clock. The hotel clock was wrong and was continually running slow. so i had three diffferent times and did not know which was correct. i used my cell phone to call the front desk since I couldn't figure out the room phone, and sure enough-- the hotel clock and my alarm clock were very wrong and I had to get to the train station right away or I would miss my train. Plus, any noise in the hall was very loud. It was not a comfortable stay. the only good thing was that the location is very close to the train station (easy walk) and i only spent 50 euro. the desk clerks in the morning weren't very friendly, either. If you want a cheap hotel near the train station, I suggest looking into the others that are nearby.
