Historical Traveller Reviews of Lancaster Hotel
Nice hotel, location is good but not stellar
from sbhaskarExcellent Value
from TraceyDDThe room was clean and well appointed - good bathroom, mini bar, TV etc. as well as Internet access.
The hotel is in a quiet, residential district - all the more quiet for visitors as many Milanese leave the City at weekends!
The walk through Sempione Park to the Centre is very pleasant and everything is within walking distance (in COMFORTABLE shoes!) - the Duomo, la Scala, the Golden Triangle of Haute Couture and Designer shops.
Without doubt a great budget hotel - used by Business visitors as well as tourists of all nationalities.
Super Hotel in quiet location
from nataliatiyadat the hotel are more akin to 4 star with 24 hr room service and reception. Also there is no premium to pay for breakfast in your room. The minbar prices were very reasonable with most items priced at €2.50. The rooms were well appointed (cable TV, comfortable, firm large beds, small balcony) and the shower room was well equipped with good towels and toiletries.
The Hotel is about 1.5 miles from the town centre in the quiet district of Sempione. It's a nice walk into town thru the local park and then on down the Via Dante ( a main shopping street) into town. Alternatively catch a LIne 19 or Line 27 tram into town from the Via Monti about 5 mins walk away. The 19 in particular is something special because the rollng stock is pre-war. The Hotel is a €9 ride from the Centrale Railway Station were the coaches from Bergamo airport drop you in town. Going back to the airport we opted for the slow but characterful route on the LIne 2 tram from Corsa Sempione (again about 5 mins walk from the hotel) to the Piazza Caiazzo close by the railway station. 24 hr tickets for all tram, bus, trolleybus and Metro journeys cost €3 from newstands and tobacconists.
Good Place to stay in Milano

from golfidianMilan Find
from bpierzThe only negative is the tenant building across the street. The rest of the neighborhood is very pleasant.
Absolute Euro Bargain
from A TripAdvisor MemberI walked around for a few hours that evening to see my bearings and where everything was. The city center is about 25 minutes walking but I stayed local and found a few restaurants catering to all pockets and styles.
If you wish to walk from the station...take the Malpensa Express from the Airport to Milano Cadorna for 11 Euro. Exit the station and take a left and left again. Walk alongside a park for about ten-fifteen minutes until you see on your right a street leading to the arch (see photo). Take the left opposite this which is the Hotels street. Halfway down on right is the gem of Milan.
Pros:
Staff spoke excellent English and were very accommodating and helpful.
ISDN service for 3.50Euro for 24 hours
Breakfast plentiful and free
Proximity to station (Milan Cadorna) is max. 20 minutes walking.
Cons
None noted.
Lovely boutique hotel!
from bwie_sgHotel Lancaster is seemingly located in a residential area; does not look like a dodgy area to me. There aren't any supermarket or eatery nearby for those who like to venture out for some night time snacks like my boyfriend and myself. Or perhaps we did not look hard enough as we were only there for 1 night. The hotel has a staff behind the reception desk for the night we were there, so I am assuming that this is the way it is everyday - no worries about security.
We got a double room that comes with everything you need in a hotel; safe, tv, minibar, trousers press, office table etc etc. Room was nice and very clean. They even have rugs on each side of the bed - that made us went 'awww, how sweet' (good attention to details). Bathroom was well-lit enough for us ladies to put on their makeup. They provided shower gel, lotion, shower caps and shoe shine. Towels were clean and crisp.
As for the service - it is un-faultable. The reception was able to recommend us where to go and always happy to be of assistance. There are a good selection of brochures for tourists to browse through in front of the reception desk. Even the chambermaid greeted us chippily as she came in to start her shift. I tugged the alarm by mistake in the shower and the lady at the reception called immediately to ask if anything was wrong.
Good spread of continental breakfast - ham, cheese, eggs, bread, toast and free flow of fruit juice & hot beverages.
Overall an excellent hotel with good hospitality. Pity we only stayed for one short night. Would definitely stay with Hotel Lancaster the next time we visit Milan.
Fantastic! Liked Milan; Loved the Lancaster!
from bnedrAs others have noted, the Lancaster can be a pleasant 15-20 min. walk through Parco Sempione (which does close its gates at night). The hotel is also a 15 min. walk from the Malpensa Express station at Cadorna (11 euro one-way from Malpensa; 40 mins.). I did this walk easily with my rolling suitcase (turn right and stay on the right side of the road as you exit on Via Leopardi, turn right over the bridge that goes over the tracks, cross the street at the light and turn left and follow along past the park until you get to Via Sangiorgio, turn left and go back over the bridge --and you'll see the blue HL sign on the right side of the road!).
I had a room facing Via Sangiorgio, but the double-glazed balcony doors (two sets!! One in room, one in bathroom!) cut out all the street noise. The bathroom seemed only to be heated by the heated towel rack --so I did find the floor a bit chilly at times. The room itself was warm enough (and has a/c in the summer), and is equipped with bar fridge and safe; TV has good selection of channels.
I would definitely stay here again!
Nice place
from djubreThe hotel itself looks modern inside. Obviously it has been renovated lately. The staff is friendly and the rooms quite nice. The breakfast is also OK. The only thing I have to complain about: the rooms could be cleaner, since there is dust all over the floor in the room.
Nevertheless it is a place I can recommend. I would say a very good 3-star hotel!
Top Local Tips for Milan
Arriving and Departing and getting around Coaches from Bergamo Aiirport take about an hour to get to their terminus at Centrale Railway station. If you don't know the town, get a white taxi to your accommodation from the taxi rank on the Eastern side of the station same side that the coaches use. Beware of hawkers for unlicenced taxis before you get to the stand. A 15 min ride is about €9. When you next need to travel get an ATM travel card for 24/48 hrs (very cheap) and use the public transport. At tram/bus stops with a shelter there is usually a map of the network which makes planning a journey pretty easy. Note that the Tram Turistico mentioned elsewhere in Trip Advisor is not running at present.
The Malpensa Express For 11 euros a person one can enjoy a fast and comfortable trip from Malpensa Airport to Cadorna Railway Station in Piazza Cadorna along side the Parco Sempione. The tip takes 40 minutes each way and the carriages have special luggage racks that are easy to use. no overhead lifting.
Riva Reno Gelateria A must do - don't miss out on this gelateria, it was the best in all of Italy-amazing flavors & free internet!
