Historical Traveller Reviews of Canada Hotel
Great Price, Great Hotel!
Personally really enjoyed this hotel! The service was great, the front desk staff was especially helpful and enjoyable. The rooms were very large for European standards and the rooms were classy and swank. I loved the decor and feel of the entire hotel, very clean. The view wasn't much to look at, but as Milan is a very industrial city there was no surprise there. The hotel website photos are accurate and true to the rooms. Only catch was the 5 minute walk to the Duomo is more around 10 or 15. However, considering the price (paid 70 Euro, $100 American), the walk was no problem.
The hotel was easy to find, we got the metro from the central station and from there it is a short walk. The staff were polite and helpful on arrival. Our room was reasonably large with a huge shower room, it was very modern with a plasma tv and new bathroom. The only complaint about this hotel would be the noise in the morning as there was building work being completed on the hotel As we were staying for just one night however it was bearable and it is understandable that they were doing this work in august as it is the quiet season in milan. The breakfast was huge and was served by a lovely waitress. Overall this hotel was great, good value too as we paid £45 for one night!!!
best value for money
I am very satisfied with the hotel service, rooms, breakfast and price (I paid 100 euros per night). Although I stayed on the first floor and on the road side, the room was very quiet, because of the sound proof windows. The quality of the furniture and the bathroom was very high: double bed 2 metres width, flat screen tv, high quality for sheets, blankets, pillows and towels, everything was new.
If you choose to stay at this hotel until September 2007, keep in mind that there are some repairing/ renovating jobs in working days, so there would be noise from 8 a.m.
Contemporary elegance at a very reasonable price. The room we had was bright, clean and recently refurbished. It had all the mod-cons you could wish for… and more (flat-screen TV, air conditioning, etc.) Great location: about a 20mins walk from the centre, or 3 - 4 stops on the tram / underground. Breakfast was okay. The reception staff were excellent - nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely stay there again. Booked through venere.com
We booked our stay at this hotel through Bookings.com. The confirmation we received from that website said we would have a bathtub & shower. When we arrived at the hotel we received a room with only a shower. The person at the front desk could not speak english very well, so communicating our request to him was difficult. He finally just told us that there were no other rooms available and we'd have to stick with the room we had. When we used the bathroom faucet, the cold water handle came right off! We went back down to the front desk (as the room phones are not connected to the front desk) to ask that the faucet be fixed. The front desk guy said it would be fixed, but 2 days later it still wasn't fixed! The hotel itself was satisfactory and you could tell that it had been recently renovated, but the service (or rather lack thereof) made this hotel closer to a one star than a three start (which we thought it was). Needless to say, we left the hotel a day earlier than we had planned, and we will never stay there again! If you are only in Milan for a short time and want to enjoy yourself you really do have to spring for a hotel that is no less than a 4-star.
Very nice hotel
We were a family of 4 and stayed in the hotel for 2 nights. The hotel was very good, clean rooms and bathrooms. Breakfast was excellent and whatever was left over was made available to guests in the hotel foyer. Hotel staff were very helpfull. Overall a nice place for a family to stay.
After reading the reviews of Hotel Canada, I expected it to be acceptable, but I was surprised at how nice it was. My husband and I typically stay in 3-star hotels here in Europe, and while they always meet our needs, they can sometimes leave a lot to be desired. Hotel Canada, however, was great. The outside of the hotel had a slightly retro, dated look, but our room (105) seemed to be newly renovated. From the plasma TV to the white linens to the leather-like couch to the huge chrome showerhead to the heated towel rack, everything was incredibly modern and stylish. The room wasn't huge, but it was big enough to house our stuff as well as the hotel-provided travel crib. We even still had room to walk around! The location was good -- very close to a Metro stop, and less than 15 minutes (on foot) from the Duomo. We were also pretty close to San Ambrogio, a good pizza place, and a grocery store. (The room had a little fridge/mini-bar, so we could stock up on water and milk.) The biggest pleasant surprise was the breakfast -- unlike most hotels that provide only cornetti and caffe, Hotel Canada lays out a spread that includes eggs, yogurt, cornetti, cakes, cereal, ham, cheese, rolls, toast, and a fresh fruit salad. We ate well each morning. I highly recommend this hotel.
This was a great hotel, three blocks from the metro and one block from the bus stop. Nice breakfast & VERY helpful employees -- great service and overall a great experience. Would definitely stay here again.
Greatly exceeded expectations!
We booked a room at the Hotel Canada when we decided to make a last minute stop-over in Milan during a recent tour of Italy. We chose the hotel completely based on price and location, but it was one of the nicer places we stayed over a month of travelling. The staff was very friendly, spoke excellent English and was very helpful. The room itself was large and clean, with an extremely comfortable bed, air conditioning and spacious bathroom. The included breakfast had more to offer than any other we had in Italy, a nice change from the pre-packaged croissants that seem to be the usual norm. It was a pleasant walk to the Duomo and city center from the hotel. I would stay there again without hesitation.
I stayed in this hotel for two nights in July. I stayed in room number 705, and at first I thought they had given us the wrong room... it was large, airy and modern. The room had a daybed, large desk, leather chair, double wardrobe and a plasma screen TV. The bathroom was wonderful... huge shower, two sinks, toilet with a bidet- all with chrome fittings. Breakfast was lovely, with a wide range of food to chose from. Much more like a 4 star hotel than a 2 star. Would reccomend for the price you pay. (Oh and the location is good... around a 5-10 min walk from the Dumo).
One important note is that the hotel is undergoing improvement works... this didnt bother us much since we were staying on the 7th floor and the works were taking place on the 2nd and 3rd floors.... so make sure your not within earshot of the noise.
Wouldnt reccommend Milan itself as a holiday though. It was hot, dirty and expensive. If you want to see Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper you have to book in advance.... keep this in mind!
