Staff very friendly and helpful. Room a little on smallish but very clean and nicely decorated with crisp bed linen, fluffy towels, hair dryer, soap/shampoo, tv and free soft drinks in mini-bar but no tea/coffee facilities in room. Bar in evening makes cosy meeting place with free canapes to have with pre-dinner drinks. Only drawback is that the free coffee and tea facilities in lounge area often tepid (certainly not hot) and had to request that they be refreshed! Situation excellent for metro into centre of Milan. Wonderful hotel if arriving by Ryanair. Direct bus from airport (Orio - bus situated outside - buy ticket from bus driver 12 Euro return). When arriving in Milan at Central Station head straight for the Caffe Kimbo building which has a McDonalds at ground level, keep to right of building and walk behind it and Hotel Berna is a few hundred yards down on left-hand side. Couldn't be more convenient! Milan is a very friendly non-aggressive place. Lift to top of Duomo is a must to see views of city (on clear day). Easy train ride to Lake Como for day. Metro link easily negotiable and cheap!

Great choice for British football fans.

Went to Milan in the hope of seeing the Milan derby. On arrival at the hotel one of the concierge's first comments, without any prompting whatsoever from us, was that he could probably sort out tickets for the match - now that's what I call service. We were allocated rooms in the spanking modern building over the road from the main hotel. The kids thought they'd dropped into a five star hotel room. LCD TV , free mini-bar with snacks freshly stocked every day, slippers, bath robes, toiletries changed nearly every day, fresh sheets and pillows, with quality fittings throughout, (being a building surveyor I notice these things!). Breakfast was ok, though considering the cost of the stay it was far better than expected. Best of all were the staff - from the room maid to the bar staff, from the waitresses to the reception area crew, they were excellent, and a credit to the hotel and its management. Thoroughly recommended.

Great Hotel!

My friends and I were celebrating our friends 29th Birthday. We flew with Ryanair and stayed our first night in Bergamo, where we all agreed we should've spent the whole trip. Milan is lovely if you want to shop, we loved the old world charm of Bergamo. Well worth a day trip or stay overnight at the Hotel San Lorenzo in Citta Alta (the old walled city part of Bergamo).

The Berna was lovely, free coke and juice in your mini-bar stocked each day (so buy yourself a bottle of spirit at the duty free!). All day in the foyer there is free coffee, croisants and juice. Free snacks if you buy from the bar, such as nuts and crisps. Our room was nice, lots of toiletries in the room. But we were told by another guest to ask for rooms in the blue tower over the road from the hotel, this is part of the Berna but the rooms are nicer.

Wine and beer was reasonable in the hotel. We got ripped off at the local bar "Chez Moi" they were charging 17 Euros for a bottle of wine, in the hotel it was 9 Euros.

We ate out at La Baita a small trattoria which is on Via Lepetit on the main street behind the Berna. We were welcomed here, food excellent, get there early as at 8.15 p.m. they are queueing to get in this little unasuming place!!

Excellent location and facilities

What a hotel, we could not believe our luck when we realised just what we had booked. The food , service and rooms were first class. The location just a short walk from the main station was brilliant especially for tourists who dont know their way around the city. It was close to the metro link to get around the city.
The staff were really friendly , recommended a nearby restaurant and reserved us a table. The breakfasts were really good a buffet style and the choice was excellent you had to drag yourselves away. Through the day there was hot drinks and cold in the lounge all free and early evening drinks in the bar were accumpanied with free snack. The free mini bar was free but with only non alcoholic drinks ( we were expecting too much ) Over all I would recommend this hotel, a brilliant choice.

Gorgeous breakfast, good value!

We were happy to stay at the Berna. Interesting rates through early booking on a website, but probably as a result of these cheaper rates, we were assigned to a room next to two lifts, resulting in a virtually sleepless night. The staff were helpful enough to relocate us for the same rate, but we had some trouble to avoid paying extra on checking out.
The stay was very successful, though, with an excellent buffet breakfast, comfortable rooms, good location, free minibar (non-alcoholic), etc.

Excellant hotel..couldnt be better

Hotel Berna in Milan was indeed the BEST hotel we stayed in while our visit to Italy spanning 16 Days.An excellant hotel minutes from the station ..very pleasant and helpful staff and a very good Breakfast..infact the best we had out of the five hotels we stayed in I would definitely return to Berna again if we came back to Milan.. Thank you Berna for making our last days in Italy SO memorable and COMFORTABLE for both my husband and Me .

Exceeded expectations!

My 2-night stay 25-26 Oct 2005 was delightful and not just because my reservation was upgraded to a brand new room (it even had a flat-screen TV) in the new "tower" building across the street from the main hotel. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, the desk staff most gracious and helpful, the location just a few minutes walk from the Central Station for easy access to the Malpensa airport bus. I would definitely stay there again.

Very clean, comfortable, convenient, I recommend it!

I stayed at the Hotel Berna Milan for one night during a tour of Italy. I booked it the day before on venere for only 89 Euro (venere offered the best rate). The room was small (typical in Europe) with 2 very comfortable twin beds. I travel a lot and I must say the room was spotless and it offered a 1 or 2 more English channels other than the typical CNN & BBC Europe (in case you fall asleep to the TV like I do). It is in walking distance of the train station & metro. The staff was friendly and a European breakfast (meats, pastries, fruit, cheese, and coffee) is served in a cozy well lit breakfast room. They have two computers with internet access in the lobby and they give you 20 minutes free. I definitely recommend this place, it was cheap, comfortable, and clean and breakfast was nice (Not the typical prepackaged pastries like some hotels). Venere offered the cheapest rates compared to expedia, travelocity and even the hotels own website. I would stay here again.

Great price,great location,very comfortable stay

Just returned from 3 nights at the Berna hotel.Located 2 minutes from the central station where buses leave for airports and trains to other italian cities and the underground( 3 stops from Duomo the main cathedral), it is very convenient. The hotel is clean, well air conditioned and the staff are extremely friendly. There is free internet access and the mini bar is also free!
Breakfast is superb;lots of fresh fruit, freshly squeezed carrot juice,bacon/egg ......We spent >1 hr each morning just enjoying breakfast!!
I can't recommend it highly enough and the price is very reasonable.

Great location, great value

Great location, great value, outstanding breakfast included. Well worth a night or two to explore the city of Milan. Central train station only a few mins walk. Would stay again.

Great breakfast included

We loved this hotel. The staff is friendly. It is a less than 5mn walk to the train station. The breakfast is great and included in the room price which is hard to find anywhere! Will go back again.

Top Local Tips for Milan

Do not miss the Duomo And make sure you take the trip to the roof terraces

Dinner and Shooping For dinner we would recommend Boccondivino restaurant in Milan. For shopping we would recommend hiring a car to visit Foxtown outlet in Mendrisio Switzerland (Gucci, Prada, Dior etc at very low prices, all new and nicely presented).

Beware Airport Taxis Taxi driver at airport (Linate) charged us 50 euro to get to hotel (near central station). He did not use meter. Insist that they do. Fare from hotel to airport was only 15 euro.
