Avoid like the plague ....

First the one good point - the staff were friendly - well with me and my wife at least, and were very concerned when I had a mishap whilst out of the hotel.

And now the rest. The rooms are far too small. Neither my wife or I are overlarge, but we couldn't walk together in any part of the room. When you flush the loo, the pipework sings at you for 10 minutes afterwards. The walls are so thin we could hear a couple arguing 5 doors down the corridor. In fact, they are nearly as thin as the towels!! Bar prices are expensive - you would expect to pay 3.20 Euros for a glass of Peroni beer, when you could get a bottle that held twice as much from the local shop for 1 Euro. I'm glad we didn't have a view of the sea - the sea wall and every other wall were splattered with graffiti. Unfortunately it seems to be a huge problem in Italy.

There were no restaurants, and nothing going on. Food wise, ham and cheese every morning for breakfast gets a bit boring after a while. This was coupled with the less than value-for-money (and not very tasty) food in the hotel restaurant.

My wife's biggest beef, is that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room - but again, that seems to be the norm around that area.

Our strong suggestion is to pay the extra and stay in Sorrento itself - the place is buzzing, and there's absolutely LOADS to do and see.

The hotel and Meta itself were very, very, disappointing. Whoever gave this hovel a 3 Star rating should be stood against a wall and shot!!

Top Local Tips for Meta Di Sorrento

Pink Elephant Restaurant Excellent dining (grab a balcony table overlooking the square if you can!), with very friendly staff and fantastic food. The restaurant is part of a chain that owns a few Limoncello stores around the town, so when youre done with your meal ask for some Limoncello as a chaser - its the local lemon liquor. Those with a sweeter tooth will love Melloncello - same idea, but made with Mellons.
