Wonderful hotel

My daughter and I stayed at your wonderful hotel in May of this year and had a brilliant time
Our room overlooked the Isle of Capri and was a lovely sight to get up to every morning, especially the last day when the sun was coming up over Capri. Your staff were very professional and nothing was too much trouble for them to do, especially arranging our excursions. Your trip over to Capri, via your own boat, was one of the highlights of our holiday as was the Amalfi Coast drive. The food at your hotel was excellent, lots of choice and the Gala Dinner on the last night was great, as was the entertainment. The pool area was one of the best we have experienced at any hotel as was your excellent lunches.

We will certainly be coming back again.

Our Best Choice in Italy

It is always interesting to read other peoples reviews as any research on the internet would show you that Delfino is a long way from Sorrento. We could not fault any part of our stay here and extended from 2 night to 5 nights.

To stand on you balcony and look across the sea to Capri while cruise ships come and go is worth the admission price alone.

We had a deluxe view room with a small balcony and friends had the top floor with a large balcony which provided us with a place to sit and have a quiet drink after a day either relaxing or site seeing.

The restaurant staff were fantastic as were the pool staff and we enjoyed every minute in both locations.

The shuttle bus was there for those that needed their dose of shopping and the pool was there for those that needed their dose of sun and swimming.

The hotel provided a day trip top Capri which took you from Delfino to Capri and back. I would recommend this rather than staying at Capri.

Next time I can make it to Italy this will be definitely on my itinerary.

Wonderful hotel

My wife and I stayed at the Delfino between the 12th - 19th May 2006. I have stayed at hotels all over the world and this hotel is one of the very best. The staff are polite, helpful and friendly, and are professional at their jobs. The hotel cleaners keep the hotel spotless and its so clean that you could eat off the floors. The bar staff and waiters are smart, alert and attentive, and are a credit to their professions. Vincente at the pool bar ensures that guests are relaxed and are enjoying their stay. All the staff seemed to be very happy all of the time and it was a pleasure to see the staffs happy and smiling faces as they went about their work. The food is superb with good and different choices each night. Although about 15 minutes outside of Sorrento, there is a courtesy bus that runs 4 times a day and if its full will return for other guests. Speaking to other guests, I was not surprised that many were on their second or third visit to the hotel. This was our first visit to Sorrento and to the Delfino. I can assure you that it will not be our last and we hope to be back next year.

Far enough from Sorrento

The "Delfino" was worth the extra drive beyond Sorrento -- far from the city noise, and most (all?) rooms have a stunning (repeat: stunning) view onto Capri. Hotel is clean, correct in most every detail. Breakfast (and dinner) room is completely adequate, if not romantic and intimate.

True, this hotel did have the British and German tour groups (in their 60s and 70s) but they were pleasant enough and certainly not noisy after dark.

The hotel is isolated, so if you don't need the shopping / noise / restaurants of Sorrento, it is a great choice. And what's the problem with the "dog"? He was completely calm and friendly ... more like a doorstop than a guard.

Best holiday we have ever had

We spent two weeks at this hotel - there were four of us. I am absolutely staggered at the comments of the people who thought the Delfino was poor. The staff were wonderful and as for the dog, where was the problem. It wasn't interested in anyone and just lay around. It certainly did not come into the restaurant. The staff in the restaurant were wonderful especially Luigi, the wine waiter, and the Head Waitor. Can't wait to return

Awesome experience

Its strange... My Fiancee and I were there at the same time as the people below and had a completely different experience. Firstly we are not over 70 and we enjoyed the entertainment that was provided (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays. A complimentary glass of champagne was offered on the Thursday) I never got to use the pool toilets so I cant comment on that but found the pool staff in particular very helpful and all the staff very pleasant. The resident German Shepard is lounging about most days but completly harmless..... I would behave exacly like him if i lived there too. The Wedding was a bit of a surprise and i think we were asked to leave the pool area by 5pm. Every other night, the pool closed at 6pm....so it wasnt a massive burden in my opinion and besides, It was nice to see the local Italians at a local wedding....that was entertainment in itself. The music was loud and did seem to carry through the hotel but by the next morning it was forgotten about already. Perhaps when booking, you should enquire if there is a wedding on. The dining was exceptional. The food was fantastic and the wine was flowing. I think the best part about it was being out of Sorrento. A free minbus service is offered all day everyday to Sorrento. I think the last minibus returns at 11.30pm. If I knew this, I would not have hired a car and saved myself a bit of cash! As for things to do.... I hired a car and drove up and down the Amalfi Coast and went as far as Ravello. The views were breathtaking and eating in the different places was enjoyable. We also went to Capri (a boat picks you up from the Hotel) and to Pompei. All of these trips I would do again and recommend. I would also recommend a sea front room at the Delfino and enjoy the views, especially at sunset. At no time did I think the Hotel needed updating. Our room was spotless and tastefully decorated and the marble floors and steps in the hotel were nicely done. I felt the Hotel had a typical Italian charm about it and can appreciate how people keep going back for more. We certainly will be.

Del Fino is not 4 star

to summarise- this "four star" hotel has a resident dog present- strolls around the dining areas/reception; there is no concierge, the hotel is very noisy, we were thrown out of the swimming area for a private wedding; the hotel is very dated- needs renovation, plastic tables and chairs on the terrace, no champage, pool toilets never cleaned and no toilet roll ever, IT IS AT LEAST 20 MINUTES FROM SORRENTO, staff are rude and unhelpful, the restaurant is brightly lit like a canteen- the nice dining room is never used, there is no enterntainment at night and nothing else around, u need to be 70 plus to stay there. awful, would not recommend. 2 stat hotel at max.

Good choice

Stayed 4 nights in September, and would happily return. Friendly staff, spotless room and general areas. Morning view from our terrace (see pic) was wonderful. Fabulous buffet breakfast. The location is quiet, we hired a car from Naples airport and would probably have felt a little isolated without it though the hotel does run a minibus service to Sorrento.
Highly recommend the coastal drive to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello etc for jaw dropping views (see pic). Allow at least 2 hours from Naples airport if you're driving to the hotel, and remember the golden rule for driving in this part of the world-there are absolutely no rules!

Wonderful hotel and staff

The Delfino is a great place to relax and enjoy the magnificent views of the bay and the island of Capri. The staff was very cordial and always helpful with directions and sightseeing information. The location was perfect for touring the Sorrento and Amalfi coasts. Breakfast in the beautiful dining room was a great way to start every day.

The Hotel Delfino is in a breathtaking location, about 15 minutes outside of Sorrento. I am so glad that we decided to stay in Massa Lubrense instead of Sorrento. I found Sorrento too congested and noisy! There is a free shuttle from the hotel that runs 4-5 times daily..yes it's small, but the drivers are very nice and will come back to pick you up if the bus is full.
Now back to the Delfino...the views are outstanding!! We also discovered the fabulous little beach down below the hotel..a cove straight out of a movie where a boat can dock and take you to Capri..which I highly recommend instead of going to Capri via Sorrento. This hotel is a 10!!!

hAVE A GO The Italians love it when you 'have a go' at speaking their language, so let yourself go - use the vocab book and llsten /ask for the pronunciation.

BOAT TRIPS THE DELPHINO ORGANISES TRIPS DIRECTLY FROM THE HOTEL BY BOAT TO CAPRI AMALFI AND POSITANO MUCH CHEAPER THAN ORGANISED TRIPS BUT NOT FOR THE INFIRM AS YOU HAVE TO CLIMB DOWN THE STEPS TI THE SEA AND "BACK UP AGAIN"

Mr Colin Carruthers If like a lot of people coming to the Delfino, you arrive at Sorrento, do not pay for a taxi, try to time your arrival in Sorrento with the hotel shuttle bus, this will take you straight to the hotel and save you about 35 Euro's.
