| Don't trust them with your passport! |

As small city hotels go, I can’t fault the Albergo Diana in Lucca. We spent one night there in mid July 2006, as a stop-over on our way from Turin to Cortona in Tuscany. It’s easy to find by car, very centrally located, within the city walls of lovely Lucca and, as it comes with reasonably-priced parking, it’s a winner. We didn’t stay at the hotel itself, which seemed a bit old and pokey, but the annexe, only a couple of buildings away. This was a lovely old building, renovated sympathetically in the year 2000, we were told. We were quite impressed with the bathroom, which was both modern and spacious. The bed was very comfortable, the air-conditioning was in perfect order and we had a very good night’s sleep. All in all, the room couldn’t be faulted, and, at 93EUR without breakfast (they don’t seem to give you the option of having one on their premises), we thought the hotel was reasonably good value for money.
