Lovely place
from miramol
Enjoyed a long weekend here in the spring. Our room was beautiful and the hotel generally was decorated to a very high standard. Our only problem was that we did not have our owntransport and it was quite expensive to get in and out of Lucca by taxi although the hotel did organise this for us and at a fixed rate, they also organised a transfer to Pisa airport for us. getting the local bus was not so easy as it involved walking along a fairly busy stretch of road with no pavement.Better suited to those with a car overall. Definately eat in the hotel while you are there the food was superb and a great choice of local wine, although I understand they don't serve food on Sunday nights. Lucca is beautiful as is the surrounding countyside - a great place for a weekend break or for stopping off on a tour of Tuscany.
A lovely quiet country hotel

We stayed at the Albergo Villa Marta for 6 nights in early July. I booked this hotel due to its fantastic reviews on the trip advisor site - we were not disappointed.
The hotel is of a high standard and is in a great out-of-the-way location. We did have trouble finding it as the directions on the website are not in depth enough. If you are planning to stay here get yourself some detailled directions before you attempt to find it!
There are only two small things about this hotel that we would like to have been different - there are no facilities to make tea or coffee in the rooms - this means having to order drinks from reception and then having to drink them in communal areas of the hotel. The other point is that there is not a bar area as such in the hotel, this makes socialising with other guests very difficult and after 11pm they will not serve you a drink as the 'bar' closes.
We did have a great time here and if you want a hotel that is full of authentic, quiet country charm then this will suit you!

Top Notch

One hesitates to recommend this truly delightful Albergo ['cos everyone will descend on it - and it has only 11 rooms] but the Albergo Villa Marta just outside Lucca is top notch in every respect - and perfectly reflects the "picture" of staying in Tuscany. Andrea and his wife and delightful staff "operate" at 100% to ensure the guest's satisfaction
HOT HOT shower
from Il0veItaly
Although this was my first time in Lucca, I travel to Italy at least 2 times a year for 25 years.
Albergo Villa Marta was a nice place to stay just hop step and jump from Lucca and Pisa.
Rooms are not big but reasonable size with good size bathroom with just a shower.
My friend who came from Japan was not too thrill about not having bathtub. But it was OK for us. Only problem was we couldn't control the temprature of the hot water.
So, we took STEAMY HOT shower the first night.
The owner of the villa came to adjust it but didn't solve the problem.
We ended up taking a shower at our friends room.
Everything else was just fine.
Try their restaurant, dinner menu was very reasonable and good.
Overall Villa Marta was a nice place to stay if you want to experience Italian villa in Toscana.

A good combination of quality and comfort
from NWBallardTraveler
If you plan to visit Lucca or Pisa the Albergo Villa Marta is an excellent choice. We were very pleased with our room which was large, very clean and very well appointed. The bathroom had a large shower, excellent towels, good soaps and all the electrical outlets worked! Located on the road between Pisa and Lucca the Albergo Villa Marta is quiet and sits on a large, landscaped piece of property off the main road. There is plenty of free parking and there is also a pool which is appreciated in warm weather. We stayed three nights and on our last evening we decided to eat dinner at the Villa. It was a very good meal and reasonably priced.
Lovely room and excellent service

It exceeded our expectations since we have stay in Portofino. One of the most beautiful places in Italy.
like owning your own villa

Spent 4 nights march 06 at this villa hotel 4k outside Lucca lovely country location, the owners and staff make you feel at home, I am only confirming other tripadviser reports that this is well worth a visit if you are in this area. The gardens and views are a delight. Breakfast is a great start to the day, good variety and all good quality. For convenince you need a car but taxis are availbale and there is a good restaurant 5mins walk from villa. Lucca is an interesting old walled town with lovely streets, buildings and restaurants. The Gli Orti in Via Elisa is excellent ask for a table waited on by Sergio, speaks good english and great advice on food and wine. From Lucca take the A12 road, blue signed, to Pisa after you pass a large pastry and icecream shop on your left look out for a small white sign on left to villa. Thank you Andreas, Elisia and Staff for a memorable stay
Great stay in a quaint villa

We stayed at Albergo Villa Marta during our honeymoon trip to Italy in November 2005. If you like peace and tranquility without being too far removed from civilization then this place is for you! The staff is very professional and courteous, the rooms are simple yet picturesque and the views are gorgeous. Lucca is about a 15 minute drive and definitely worth a visit -- it was one of our favorite cities on our trip. You'll love Albergo Villa Marta!
Villa Marta is wonderful
from A TripAdvisor Member
We chose Villa Marta based on the Tripadvisor rating and we were not disappointed in any respect. It is truly a four star hotel. The photos that others have posted give an accurate picture, and were instrumental in our choice.
We loved the intimacy of the place, with just 11 rooms, and the setting was beautiful. Our room overlooked the garden and we could see the mountains in the distance. The room itself was lovely and spacious and nicely decorated.
The service was hospitable, and everyone did everything they could to help us have an enjoyable stay. This hotel has been open for just about a year; the owners worked for 3 years to restore it before opening, and their hard work is evident.
Although we were traveling in low season, late February, we still fully enjoyed the surrounding countryside and the town of Lucca, which is just about 3 km away. The low season internet rate made this a real treat. Villa Marta must be fantastic in the spring. We will be certain to return to Villa Marta on our next trip to Italy.

Great for couples

The Albergo Villa Marta is a small and private hotel with a decent swimming pool and a touch of class. The service was fantastic and food great. Would definately go back for a weekend of relaxation.
Top Local Tips for Lucca
Be careful of signs for SS12 We found theroad signs in Lucca very confusing, especially as there appeared to be 2 roads for Pisa called SS12. Be warned!
safe town we have been touring the city without having any problems.
